First but not the last time coming here. What a great find. Lovely and cozy inside with Tiffany lights, dark wood ceilings and bar, lots of Irish memorabilia and a beautiful fireplace that I wish had been on. The waitress was very sweet and kind and helpful. According to my husband the beer was perfect as was his Reuben sandwich which he said melted in his mouth. My roast beef wrap was perfect. The meat was rare and the bacon crispy. Proper Irish pub in the center of small town Montgomery (ahem middle of nowhere). Copperfield's is sort of a seat yourself and we will come find you. Soo cozy, vibrant, friendly and real. Feels like you are in an episode of cheers, a back pub in Ireland with a splash of upstate realness. The waitstaff is helpful if sometimes not exactly clear what is currently on tap. Who cares? They are so kind. The James beer flight was exceptional with a flavorful assortment of sour beer / stouts. Five, 3 oz pours on a lazy suzan. Cute and only $9. My dirty vodka martini was a bucket of perfectly chilled Smirnoff martini in a heavy glass. ($7) Chicken chimichangas ($12). Moist shredded chicken in two corn tortillas drenched in sauce and smothered in cheddar cheese. So tasty I actually ate the rice. Wings - medium spicy and awesome ($6) they have a ton of flavors, I just ordered regular. Lots of drumsticks and a few wings. Hefty and delicious. Jalapeño poppers ($7) - cheddar gut bombs. Not my fave. But definitely plentiful. Next night had the Swiss mushroom burger with BBQ sauce and waffle fries $9. Two people shared it and were stuffed. This is basically the definition of an Irish pub. Furniture is imported from Ireland. 27 beers on tap (I just asked the server) Fireplace is lit on cold nights. Warm, village like atmosphere all the time. A hundred types of burgers to order- literally. Ask for the burger menu. It's separate from the main. This is my idea of the perfect bar. Intimate, warm, (somewhat) dimly lit, and killer food. Whether you're here for a beer, a mixed drink, dinner, or all of the above, Copperfields can, and will deliver. First, the beer. Last time I checked, they have the most draught taps in the Hudson Valley, something like 20+. Many are locally crafted, full-flavored beers. Rushing Duck in Chester, NY for example, is often available here, and all drafts are $5, with a daily special that'll run you $3. No Miller or Coors lights though, (although you can still order them via bottles.) Mixed drinks? Sure, they have them. The food. Wow, it's good. Surprisingly good. So good, you can come here just for the food, and skip the booze all together. The wings are a standout for me, perfectly crisp and adequately sauced. Never would I ever order barbecue wings, but my mom wanted them and now, they're my go to. Point is, most likely everything you order here will be much better than expected. The burgers are big, and served with crispy waffle fries (HELL YES!!!) cole slaw, and a pickle. You get the sense every ingredient is treated well, and with care. Supposedly, the Mexican food is out of bounds here as well. I would love to try, but I just can't yet deviate from the BBQ cheddar bacon burger, or the French dip, served with provolone cheese and a lovely au-jus. Since I did takeout I am going to judge this place solely based on the food (the inside seemed mediocre but I didn't get a full look around). I had the chicken ranchero wrap and it was very delicious. The sauce was very flavorful, plenty of chicken and a nice combo of rice,lettuce and cheese. Haven't been here in 20 years. They updated the outside so I figured they did the same for inside. This place smells like and old dank bar. Ugh. We sat in the back room with the glass roof covered in some sort of fabric that hasn't been cleaned in forever. Everything felt sticky and over used and old. We ordered several things and were told, oh we're out of this oh we're out of that. This was a Friday early evening. What the heck? Now I know why I haven't been back in 20 years. I give this 4 stars based on location alone. There isn't a better place I have found nearby Middletown for Craft Beer selection with good local food. Seriously! I travel to this area a lot and look continuously for a place that has craft beer and good non-chain food. This is your place if that's what you want. The worst waitstaff. Our waiter was extremely unkind to us. She had brown curly hair and I wish I knew her name. She was angry that we came in later in the evening and took it out on us all night. She said "you people" need to start calling before hand. I don't know what she meant by You People but I could not believe the way we were treated. We would have happily left if they told us it was too late but instead she just passive agressively served us all night. What's funny is I was telling my friend what happened the next day and she said she had also been there that evening and she said the waiter was extremely rude to her and her group. She said she would never go back again. I think they make all their money at the bar so they don't care how people who are ordering food feel. Shockingly awful. read more

I had not been here in about two years, until the other night. The food is pretty good, but the service was absolutely awful. When we arrived, thie was two other tables being served, and about 4 people in the bar area. We ordered our food as soon as waitress came over as we were both very hungry. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Keep in mind we order Burgers and wings.. The waitress apologized for the wait, and told us another waitress had called in sick. Keep in mind their were two waitress waiting on three tables(one table had two and the other had three people) They also had a bartender working the bar for the four people having drinks. The food is pretty good here! Definitely recommend the chili it's always delicious. The bar service varies depending who's on. The drinks vary as well. Last time I ate here there were a bunch of drunk guys swearing at the top of their lungs and I took my dad out to eat so made for a slightly awkward meal. My experiences here have been pleasant, given the current world situation it's great to be able to have a place like this to escape to. The food is beyond typical bar food and the service is wonderful. If I had one complaint it would be , during my last visit a group of girls were there and somehow two " forgot" their ID's and turned into instakunts ... they were belligerent toward the server who explained NYS law( need for ID) yet they were very argumentative and nasty ... Absolutely love this place! They have indoor and outdoor dining and even a tent area to make more room with heaters on the tent and patio. The food is excellent and you can never go wrong with the nachos, pretzel and their amazing burgers. 37 beers on tap! The staff is excellent and you can tell it's a small town pub because the girls seem to be like family. Definitely give it a try! read more

The food is really excellent , but the back room we were sat in was kind of depressing and windows and fixtures need a really good cleaning . They store stuff in the room too so you feel like your literally sitting in a spare back room . Like you're getting the last available area and sat in the corner .. old dusty red draperies covering the skylights, I don't like paying for bad atmosphere..It's worn out looking & doesn't match the rest of the restaurant which looks cozy and fun .. I said to my husband I wish we could've sat at the bar or one of the cubie tables or had a table where there was some music & atmosphere . But 5 stars for the food . read more

My biggest issue with this place was the service. Our waitress was very impatient and, being that two people in our group aren't fluent in English and have to read slowly and ask questions, her attitude put us all off. We asked her several questions about popular options to which her answer was: that's a bad question because everyone has different tastes. My husband and brother in law enjoyed their burgers and my sister in law liked her wrap. We all thought the waffle fries were tasty. My fish from my fish and chips plate tasted kind of odd but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. As of now the issue is that 3 of the four of us have upset stomachs. Can I definitely say it was our food from there? Almost certainly since that was dinner and we woke up with sore stomachs. Anyways, bummer. read more

Walk in to your typical pub scene, where you approach empty tables and not sure if we should seat ourselves or not. The rug on the way down is just pure filthy but maybe that's just part of the ambiance. The waitress was long to come and take our order and when she did she was fast to leave before taking my order...my husband ordered "copper fingers", chicken fingers...was a nice clean batter. Except this damn fly is annoying me that it's making rethink my eating choice...umm I just made the mistake of looking up at the dead flies above me. Good thing I ordered a BLT...I thought maybe a safe bet. My husband ordered "pub" burger...well he reached for the catchup and got a extra side of slime...ketchup was smeared all down the side of the bottle (mind u we're first seaters for dinner service). Dropped the food and ran. We had to call her back to ask for napkins, which she forgot. She didn't come back to check on us for some time. 3 stars for having table and chairs and edible food...also she didn't tell us the specials overheard a waitress that came out of nowhere tell the specials. Copperfield's has been a local favorite of mine for years. I can't believe it's taken me this long to do a review! The Pub itself is dimly lit, and has beautiful Irish decor. It's intimate, yet homey, but can be bustling at times. The food is always on point. From their amazing nachos, and delicious burgers, to their killer Mexican selection, I've yet to have a bad meal there. The beer selection is also incredible. Not only do they have specialty beers that they brew themselves, like their newest brews, "Montgomberry" and "Copper Moose", they also have quite a selection of local brews, including selections from Glenmere brewery, Southern Tier, Rushing Duck, and Millhouse Brewery. The bartenders and staff are always friendly and accommodating even during their busiest times. The owners always seem to go out of their way to check in at the tables to say hello, and to make sure you're enjoying yourself. What makes this place great is that I can go there with friends for a night out, kick back with co-workers and relax for Happy Hour, or take the kids in for a quick dinner. My kids love the "Copper Fingers" and brownie sundae. Whether you're a local, or just passing thorough, I definitely recommend giving this place a try! You won't be disappointed! read more

My boyfriend and I are from PA and came to the area because of the Angry Orchard Festival. Before leaving to look for night life, we asked some locals what bar we should go to and were recommended Copperfield's. After our experience, I'm really not sure why. It's clear this is a bar that caters exclusively to its regulars. The staff (other than the girl with red hair, she was pleasant) seemed very disinterested and it took a VERY long time to get served. If it weren't for us constantly going to the bartender and asking for (first time) a menu, (second time) another round of drinks, and (third time) our check - we would probably still be sitting there. The waitress who must've had our section was almost always no where to be found, and acted like she'd rather be anywhere but there. I try to be considerate/empathetic since I was a waitress for about 3 years, but sometimes bad service is just bad service. We really didn't believe a tip was deserved. Our bill came out to $15ish and we still added $5. Needless to say, we will never come back here. Maybe our experience would've been different if we were locals. read more

I don't ever do this but have to and my wife is making me while she drives. I brought 16 people to this place after a funeral, unfortunately but it was close and I was told it was the place to go in town. It was a Monday so a lot was closed but they are open all 7 days. We were seated and surprisingly had a new server. I'll say I was a little worried but unless she didn't tell us she was new I would have never known. There was also a girl helping her that was sweet but she was mainly tending bar because there was customers up there. We got all of our drinks in a timely manner, no issues with our order, she made sure to pick up your plate when you were finished and had your drink refilled before you could ask and I really appreciated that. I will say It was very warm in the dining room downstairs but she opened the door because the air didn't seem to be working well down there. All around it was a great experience and I had to write a review because I was just so taken back that a server on her first day (I believe she said it was her first day) did so well. If I lived closer I would be back more often but I will definitely be back one of these days. And to top everything off the food was excellent. read more

Copperfield's managed to serve me the most DELICIOUS wrap I've ever had in my life. It was of the Buffalo persuasion, and it was the perfect amount of spicey hotness, and still left me feeling like I was doing something healthy by ordering a wrap. The ambiance is very local-classy -- there are regulars adorning the bar, the seating area has a kind of homey bar feel, and the crowd is overall very welcoming. We had no clue we were going to stop at Copperfields on Black Friday, we were simply driving home from Thanksgiving. And we are glad that we did. Hubs was working remotely from the car as I drove, he needed to jump on a 2pm call, we were hungry and thirsty, we found Copperfields from the car doing a google search. We parked ourselves at a club table right next to the fireplace, our waitress was friendly and efficient, the noise level was at a point where hubs didn't have to shout and we ordered a French Dip & a Cheeseburger and a beer. The only reason I'm taking away a star is that the burger was overcooked, but not enough to the point where we asked for a remake. Copperfields is clearly a local hang out, numerous patrons at the bar drinking beers, families with small children, everyone knew one another. We were not rushed in any way and the waitress did numerous check backs. The bathroom was clean, my chair was extremely comfortable, the wifi was okay, if we drive back in this area again, we'd definitely stop by. read more

If you're in Montgomery and you're hungry, you can probably skip Copperfields. Inside this bar, disguised as an old Irish Pub, beats the heart of a dive. But not the kind of charming dive bar that people go out of their way for. The kind of establishment that serves sub-par food and never cleans. Upon entering, I was greeted by an obnoxious odor that was reminiscent of a moldy basement. "Ambiance," I thought to myself. Walking a narrow path between day-time drunks at the bar proper, and an imposing wood panel wall sticky with spilled beer, I made my way to the rear end of the building. Seated in the far back was the party I was meeting. The windows in the atrium style dining room were smokey with dirt and looked like they hadn't been cleaned correctly in several years. Ratty benches. Busted tables. Musty curtains. No care or effort put into the interior's upkeep was detectable. It was a rainy day. I could tell this not only by the weather outside, but also by the leak that slowly dripped on my head while I waited for my server. And wait I did. And waited. And waited some more. This would become a reoccurring theme of my visit. To be fair, the server was very nice, but slower than a turtle giving a sloth a piggyback ride. Finally my food arrived. I got the "Reuben" with waffle fries. In the menu, it was described as "fresh cut corned beef." Fresh cut? It was directly off a big box supermarket deli counter. And the coleslaw I asked to be put on the side, was in fact on the side, as well as on my sandwich. Maybe I wasn't clear that I wanted it only on the side, not in addition to what came on it. Okay. I'll take the blame for that. But the blame for the mountain of salt added to my fries was definitely on the cook. My mouth was burning after I finished half of the potato side dish. Now, I didn't have a beer, and this is a bar, so they may get better marks for that part of the business. I may have even given them two stars, if not for the four star average. This is not a four star experience. On their best day, a three may be charitable. You can be sure, I will not be going back to Copperfield's... unless it's for my own Irish Wake. read more

Fantastic local place with great brew selection. Relatives live in town and consider it their "hangout". It's that kind of place. For those that want a light, airy experience, go elsewhere. This is a pub in the best sense - dark, cozy and full of character. Food is generally very good. I've had the bangers and mash - excellent. Other time I had the shepard's pie which was less successful. Not horrible, but seemed warmed up and not very fresh. Fries are always fantastic here - very crispy and super hot. Lots of cool beers to try and I had a cider I've never had before - great! Service has been both indifferent and spot on...so it depends. Ehh it's an ok spot for a quick bite and some drinks, bartenders do good under pressure because some nights Can be hectic. Certain days have a young just made 21 crowd so watch out for drunken obnoxiousness Lol.. So for the 30's crowd on certain days things are much more together and less rowdy . Ok, game over. They've added a ton of new draft lines, two entire towers I think, to now offer great tasting local and/or craft brews at a great price. Usually one or two craft beers will be $2 or $3 which you can't beat anywhere else. They even do flights. If you're looking for good beer, this is your best bet, probably in a 30 mile radius if not more. My wife and I are actually considering moving to Montgomery, partly because of Copperfields and partly for the dog park. In addition, we've discovered this 101 Burger menu they have on Mondays and Tuesdays with literally 101 different burgers and they're buy one get one half off or free...you know we really don't pay attention because it's awesome. Plus there's a drink discount in there somewhere too....and the wings are still awesome. Look, in the five months we've known Copperfields, they've only continued to improve in service and selection...something that is quite a feat in a quaint small town! read more
