The Google reviews are laughably fake. I don't know if the astronomical markup is a joke I'm not in on, but I didn't find it funny. I also didn't find it funny being held hostage over negotiating said price and the attitude and gaslighting that follows. Doesn't matter to me, but I imagine that a lot of wealth has been extracted from the local elderly community by this place based upon how they treat knowledgeable folks with computers. On my last visit, I ended up spending over $400 for a laptop repair. They convinced me to also add a complete diagnostic, which led to advising me to upgrade my HD to a SSD. To be completely fair, I agreed to the additional work. -It's like: I can't be mad at the mechanic for advising me about additional work needed to my vehicle. It's my choice to make the recommended repairs or keep driving my car as-is. I've come to Cooper Systems before when looking for a deal on a new laptop. In the end, I always end up going to a big-box store for new purchases (shame on me!) I consider myself a tech guy. I've even replaced some minor items in laptops (e.g. upgrading RAM.) But Cooper Systems is truly GREAT at computer repairs and building a system for your needs. The issues I listed are minor and I'm sure I will visit Laura again. I recommend that you visit them, too! If I could give zero stars, I would. My boyfriend took his PC to Cooper Systems last week to get diagnostics and to get it working again. He is a highly qualified project manager for a security, data and technologies company who works with cameras, wiring, and other equipment daily. He sought out a company with experience in PC repairs and wanted to support a small local business. He was treated with disrespect and discrimination the second he stepped into the place. When he asked questions about pricing, they assumed he could not afford things, after he had already spend near $700. In addition to everything else, the case was returned to him with a damaged screw. This company overpriced the "work" that they did on the PC and REFUSED to provide an itemized receipt when asked for a pricing breakdown on what was actually wrong with the PC. They only have an accountant present one day a week and have promised the receipt this upcoming week...we will see. My boyfriend asked for what they worked on and fixed and Larry responded with vague answers. Initially he was charged $294 for diagnostics and to get the PC running again. Then later on they charged him an additional $392 for an update on one thing that they were shaky on describing to him. They also wanted to charge him an additional $100 to flip the power supply upside down (remove 4 screws and put them back in). He refused this service as he has taken apart the PC before and has prior knowledge. It is unclear without the itemized receipt if this charge was added or not. It truly saddens me that a business be run so poorly and with so much racial bias. If you are in need of a computer service stay as far away from Cooper Systems as possible. They enjoy taking money from hard working people. I have a book recommendation for Larry, the employee that treated my boyfriend with such disrespect: "White Fragility: Why it is so hard for white people to talk about racism." It is only 192 pages so I am hoping he will be able to handle it and explore the biases he is holding onto. When speaking to Mike about the racial bias that was exhibited he claims they will do better, and I surely hope they do. Greg Macintyre did a great job with his work and apologizing for the poor customer service exhibited by his coworkers. REALLY wish I had taken more time to read reviews before entrusting my laptop to them for a clicking noise. Very sketchy on pricing - it was stressed how critical it was for my laptop to be taken apart, carefully cleaned and reassembled, to the cost of $180. I reluctantly agreed, and then found out that it only took about 30-45". Really? $180 for that? Then they insisted that my fan was "going out" - part was $80, when the most expensive laptop fan I can find for my device is about $20. They insist it's because they use only the best products, even though the warranty is only for 20 days?? Total cost is almost $500 - a nice down payment for a new laptop. It quickly becomes a hostage situation when you are under the gun to get back to work. Walk away, and you've already lost $100 just for them to "diagnose" the problem and you still have a broken laptop. At pickup, they wanted me to sit and visit while they cruised around on my laptop?? This company is overpriced and haggle with you when you state you could purchase a new computer for what they are charging. Their quotes ranged from $581.75 to $638.47. They also DO NOT mention that their price DOES NOT include restoring the programs that were previously on your computer. When you complain, they say they need a username and password from when you first purchased the systems despite never mentioning this previously or asking for the needed information. They offered to install Libre on my computer. I sincerely wish I had not used this company. I suggest saving valuable time and going elsewhere unless you don't need the previously existing programs reinstalled on your computer. read more

They also thought us on what he needed and not required. They also made sure that we were comfortable with our purchase and if we have any problem that we call them for support and fixing the problem. Took my computer in to be cleaned up and optimized. Left with over a $1000+ bill, a cheap and inadequate new hard drive they said I needed, 10 years of dust still in the computer after specifically requesting that they clean it out, and instead of cloning everything, I had to reinstall all my programs, browser bookmarks, etc. Worst customer service too-they we're rude, never returned my calls, and it was obvious they weren't looking out for my best interest. read more

Be wary! Had an IMac that wouldn't boot. Took it to Cooper and after reviewing it they said it was the hard disk failing. Said two choices (1) cost $700-$900 and it would take a while, or (2) buy a refurbished one from them (slightly newer than mine) for $850 - $950 (depending on who you talked to). Declined both and took it to the Genius Bar. They evaluated it right there and said it was indeed the hard drive failing. They said they couldn't fix old machines (mine missed by a year), but a place in town was an authorized Apple repair place and suggested I call them. I went to the repair place they suggested and left my machine. Two days later I had it back with a new Solid State drive for $307.30 total. read more

This place is off the beaten path, if my husband's coworker hadn't recommended it then we wouldn't have known where it was. I'm glad we found them because a place with great service is hard to find. They not only fix computers but refurbish and sell used computers (my husband was lusting after a gaming set up at an amazing price). It's a small place, but when you walk in you are greeted and helped out by people who know what they are doing. It isn't just like talking to someone who is working from a set of instructions. These people know what they are doing. Not once did I feel talked down to because I was a woman. Nor did I at any point feel like they couldn't have fixed the issue. Where as Patton's doesn't even stock computer parts for repair (no wonder they are more expensive) Coopers had my part in stock and did the service in less time for less money with much more knowledgeable and friendly people. Skip the big box stores. If you need a computer repair go here. They won't try and get you to buy things you don't need and will make sure you understand everything. While I hope my toddler doesn't break my computer again I feel better knowing I have a great place I can get it repaired. read more

VERY SHADY PLACE!! Dropped off my computer for repair after it had water exposure. Told them this. They took my $70, cash was their preference. I was told that it may take some time for it to be complete. When I asked if I should call back in a week, I was told that it would likely take longer. I received a call the next day to let me know that my computer did have water damage (duh!) and that I could spend another $75 to send it for assessment and then they would let me know the actual cost for repair. I had to replace the power supply after 7 years of constant use however which they did for me within a 6 business day turn around. I dealt with Greg whom I believe to be quite competent. Wished I had gone to this web site first and read the reviews. My experience was similar to many who have replied below. My wife's cell phone was accidently drowned in the washing machine. Our laptop was hit with a power serge, we brought them both to C.S. They lady on the phone was optimistic that they could help with the phone. When we got there, the young man who spoke very loud and very fast, indicated that he did not think they could help on the phone. But he would be willing to take the $150 fee and try. O.k. we chose not to. My computer, hoping I can retrieve a few word, excel files and maybe some pictures. I paid the $150 initial fee to diagnosis the problem. Checked back with them a couple of days later, they were not able to download any files, but they have a "proprietary software that they think will work for $99.00 more. I declined. Miracle of miracles, they call me back and they can waive this fee. They estimate the time it will take and we agree on a price. And in all fairness, what they quoted me is what they charged. I did fill out a survey in the office before I left and they set me up with an app that will get me a reduced fee the next time i go there. But I think I am going to check a few places first before and if I ever return to Cooper Systems. read more

Over priced, takes too long, won't fix the problem. Had a laptop that wouldn't start up. Heard their add on local sports talk saying one day service or less. Over 24 hours later they called back saying after market battery overheated the mother board and they had to ship to Dallas. Got it back over a week later. Worked for a day or two before same problem. I use the laptop at home so I never used a battery after the first trip. They tried to blame the battery again, then said I used it too often and left it on, anything to blame me and make me pay more than the over $400 I already paid. They also tried to claim there was a recall for this problem. If that was true (which it was not) they should have said that day 1. Took it back at least three times and it still won't work. After talking with others I found out this should have been a simple fix if in fact that was really the problem. On top of that they also claimed my Enter key and Space Bar stopped working. I told them it worked when they got it so it better work when I got it back. SURPRISE they worked when I got it back after I refused to pay over $100 to install a new one. Rude employees, don't deliver as advertised, and then try to blame the customer. Now I change the radio every time I hear their lies oh, I mean commercials. Very friendly, and very good prices on some refurbished/liquidated laptops and pc's.. Not sure how reliable those are though--the salesman said they have great tech support but he says a lot of people call in needing repairs/support/warranty, so that could mean they aren't functioning for long but I don't know. What I do know is I was in a bind and had to buy some oldschool (PS2) computer mouses and keyboards and a few ethernet network supplies... They MAJORLY ripped me off--I paid about 3x's as much as I'd expected... basically they charge top dollar for old used equipment--even prices much higher than I'd have paid 10 years ago when these apparatuses were manufactured... They even charge top dollar for old ethernet cables! On there walls I saw a bookshelf full of software I recognized from when I was in elementary school and advertisements for "gaming PC's" they sell that are more expensive and slower than a computer I built myself 4 years ago! I think worst of all though was that I waited over 30 minutes for them to get me the mouses and keyboards I needed! And they had as many employees as customers--they kept saying "sorry we're working on it--just one more minute!!" Moral of the story: it's a great place if you don't know anything about computers and like someone to walk you through the process ((very slowly)) and you're willing to pay the price for this customer service experience.... I took my computer to Cooper Systems when I suspected that it had a virus. Turns out it had several. Cooper systems was able to repair the computer, and so far it is working well...so why only one star??? During the 5 days that Cooper Systems had my computer, I think I had 5 conversations with someone at the office. Guess how many times they called me with an update or question? ZERO. Every time I received information about the status of my repair, I was the one that made the call. I was even told on two occasions that I would be called back about a particular matter, but I never was. So I kept calling, and kept calling. Once when I called I discovered that they could not unlock the windows welcome screen with the password I provided. How was anything getting accomplished at this point?? After I confirmed multiple times that the password I supplied was correct, they discovered that one of the keys on the keyboard was sticking. I called about 30 minutes before closing time on a Friday. I was told they were almost finished with the computer, but that they would probably have to finish it up on Saturday. I expected a call mid morning Saturday, but never received it. I called at 2:10 pm on Saturday. I spoke with Larry the store manager (different guy from Larry the service manager, really). I asked if my computer was finished. He told me it was finished just before closing time (2pm). I don't live far from the shop, so I asked if I could come pick it up. This is when Larry started being very rude. He said that would not be possible because they were closed. I asked why I wasn't informed that the computer would be finished by end of business on Saturday. I explained to Larry that I have a full time job in addition to attending U of M and being a husband and father, and that week days are extremely difficult for me to fit extra errands into (I have to lose hours at work, study time, or time with my wife and son to do anything extra). Larry told me that they didn't know it would be finished by the time they closed, even though the technician told me on Friday that they had a couple of quick scans to run and it would be finished (I wasn't informed of any unexpected problems encountered on Saturday). I asked Larry what the normal procedure is for letting customers know that their computers are ready for pickup. He told me that "customer service" would call when it was ready. I informed Larry that EVERY conversation I had had with their office was a result of ME calling THEM. Larry's response was, "Well the phone works both ways. You got your information, didn't you." Let me remind you that Larry is the store manager. Store managers are tasked, among other things, with being excellent customer service representatives. At this point in our exchange, I decided I should try to speak with someone beyond Larry's authority/ability to carry on a civil conversation. I asked Larry what his last name was. He refused to tell me. I asked Larry who his supervisor was, he also refused this request. I asked Larry if I could get in touch with Mr. Cooper. He informed me that the company is now owned by a corporation, and that Mr. Cooper was living in Florida. So, Larry is the ultimate authority at Cooper Systems, Inc!!! Don't bother trying to go beyond Larry with any problems or concerns. I told Larry I would get those questions answered when I came to pick up my computer on Monday morning. At this point in our conversation, Larry told me he was "on his own time now" and could not talk to me any more. That didn't really disappoint me, but it certainly added to the list of ridiculous Larry quotes in the conversation. I was waiting to pick my computer up when the store opened on Monday morning. Larry the store manager wasn't there! I asked an employee if I could speak with a manager. He told me the manager wasn't there, that he had meetings on Monday morning. I asked, "When will he be in today?" The reply, "Who?" My answer, "THE MANAGER!" Next reply, "I don't know I don't make his schedule." My interactions with Cooper systems were now bordering on "candid camera" level. Surely there are not be this many rude and incompetent people working in one tiny office! Unfortunately, there are. The bright spot in my experience with Cooper Systems, Inc was Larry the service manager. He was very polite, he explained clearly what was done to my computer, and answered all of my questions. When I relayed some of my experience with Store Manager Larry he was very apologetic and told me that I could actually get in touch with Mr. Cooper via a contact link on the Cooper Systems website! Mr. Cooper will be receiving a copy of this review, as will the BBB, Gary Parish, and any other Cooper Systems advertiser. I don't think I've ever had a more negative customer experience than I did at Cooper Systems. It was a thoroughly negative experience. BTW, Larry yelled almost the entire conversation!! read more
