We hosted my mother in law's birthday party here and, oh my, we had a wonderful experience. The prices on the menu were high but the food portion was HUGE! They also tasted great. We shared the food so we could all try different things and nothing was short of excellent. I think the prices were justified. Our server, I regret asking for her name, was just so sweet as well. She was patient with me while we were decorating the cake. The fan blew out the candles several times and she helped us lighting them back on, always with an amazing attitude. We haven't been here since before Covid and this will probably be the last time. The first thing that took me by surprise was the prices. The restaurant was pretty empty and when I saw the menu, it made sense. The food was okay, certainly not worth what was being charged. The steaks were not cooked to the temperature requested and neither was the tri tip. Our server was nice, but seemed preoccupied. The service wasn't good. We waiting over 10 minutes to be seated. No host was present. When I got my beer on tap it wasn't ice cold let alone cold at all. My girlfriend's chicken dinner was under cooked and still pink inside. Then on top of that we felt like we were being rushed. We constantly had 3 different waiters coming to our table asking if we were ok. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday night. They did nothing for the chicken dinner nor did they comp me for my beer. I had to pay for both of them. I am shocked this place doesn't have 5 stars! I was in town for work, and had a group of 10 come to dinner here. The steak was flavorful and juicy. I was not a big fan of the bread, however I LOVED the beans! Hands down the best beans I have ever had. We ordered the cowboy cookie and bread pudding were outstanding. I am not much if a dessert person, but these were certainly worth the calories. The restaurant is full of history of Tulare with pictures on the wall of the 1800's and 1900's of the city. Went to early dining here on a weekday. Service was good; wasn't crowded. They have an early dining menu before 6pm Sunday thru Thursdays and a special for selected drinks. All meals come with campfire beans ( which were nice and spicy ) and some delicious rolls with garlic butter. Ambiance is laid back almost like your at a saloon. Service was good but that could be because we were one of very few parties at 5 pm on a Saturday. We ordered two meals, one with an "upgrade" to the side salad to a Caesar. That was a $5 cost for their version of a side salad Caesar--a handful of romaine lettuce with bottled dressing and croutons so hard you couldn't eat them. I came to Cool Hand Luke's for dinner with a friend group. It was my first visit to CHL's. The restaurant is nice with large tables and a separate bar area. Our server was wonderful and the service was excellent. Our dinners were brought out sparingly based on the type of dinner which I had never experienced. We wondered why this place was a ghost town on a Saturday evening. Found out why. We were literally the only family in the dining area. We never got waited on. Once we were sat, about 10 minutes passed and no one came to take a drink order or anything. I watched two waitresses walk by and look at us and keep going. We got up and went to Chilitos across the street and enjoyed great food and even better service. This place has been significantly worse Everytime we come and this was the nail in the coffin. I've been here several times with my mother and my sister. The food is good, my favs are the happy hour bacon bourbon wrapped shrimp and the steak nachos!!!! You can't go wrong with any of the happy hour prices but it's only n the bar area. Went here on 02/16/2022- it's not that it was busy, but it was the fact that with this pandemic that they might be short staffed, but a lot of tables were dirty upon walking in the bar making that selection limited. It was pretty funny to watch the bartender instantly greet 2 young ladies who walked in and sat down at a table, but when we walked in we had to walk around looking for available seats and we were not greeted by anyone... that bartender must've been single trying to mingle because the grin on his face that was so obvious that he was ready to assist "certain" ladies of his likings. That still didn't take away from our experience as our waitress was great and she did the best that she could with the amount of people that she was serving by herself. She gave my sister huge cups of water as my sister is always asking for refills. All of our appetizers came out in a reasonable amount of time. The only con is that the loaded fries and their french fries with their sliders needed a tad bit more salt.
