I can honestly say that my experience with Justin Berry (owner) and the entire Coolinary Arts team was exceptional. I am so pleased with their outstanding products and wonderful customer service. Justin Berry manages an excellent team, including his "right-hand man" Dylan Hayes. I decided to go with Coolinary Arts because their Yelp ratings were far superior to all the competition in the Dallas area. My decision was a very good one indeed. After initially speaking with Justin on the phone, he sent Dylan to my home to see what my home needed in the way of a new Trane HVAC system to be installed with complete new ductwork in my attic. Dylan is very knowledgeable and has a very pleasant, relaxed personality. There was no sales pitch and no pressure whatsoever. After deciding what model (number of tons and SEER rating) would be best for my home, we ordered my new Trane HVAC system. Several days later, it was professionally installed by Justin's remarkable installation team. It should be noted that Justin and/or Dylan were present during the entire installation process. I am convinced that buying high quality equipment from a reputable company is important, but their ability to install it perfectly is MOST important. Justin's team did an amazing job of installing my new HVAC system and all the new ductwork. They also installed two (2) new air intake vents in my ceiling in different parts of the home to maximize my new system's efficiency. My home now heats and cools beautifully. I highly recommend Coolinary Arts to anyone who is looking for a new high-quality HVAC system to be professionally installed with no hiccups. However, I was never provided a clear price--verbally or in writing--prior to the work being done. To my surprise, I was presented with a charge on his iPad of $828 for this refrigerant "top-off". Definitely a sticker-shock moment. Furthermore, this was the only amount shown to me on the technician's iPad, and the amount I signed for (reluctantly). At no time was I told: - How much coolant was being added - The cost per pound I find it unacceptable that such an expensive service was performed without a single written or verbal quote in advance. The technician did an excellent job executing his upsell pitch, offering a long and urgent list of recommended repairs and upgrades--ultimately leading to a suggestion that I should replace both units entirely. While I understand maintenance work often reveals other issues, this kind of high-pressure upselling without clear pricing only compounds my concern. -- Charge for "Star Member" Program - Additional $360 After the technician left, I received an email invoice showing a new total of $1,188, which now includes a $360 charge for a 'Star Member' maintenance plan. While I expressed interest in a year long maintenance agreement over the phone when I set this appointment, I never: - Signed any document agreeing to it - Authorized the charge in any form Adding this to my invoice after the fact--when I only signed for the $828 refrigerant work--is a serious overstep. Now, 24 hours later, my upstairs A/C unit no longer cools. Just blows hot air. Now I suspect sabotage to further coerce me to spend more money with them. No way. You have been warned.
