We came here on a Saturday morning for a quick coffee. We ended up sitting and trying their burritos. They were decent. They have some really good muffins - chocolate with chocolate chunks and banana nut. They serve Italian sodas and ice cream as well. The girls working here were super nice and quick with our orders. The ice cream is good, kinda hard to mess up ice cream.. however this is the 2nd time that we've gone there and really wanted a banana split. But for some strange reason, they were out of bananas!?? Not sure they just don't want to make it or if somehow there's a banana shortage that only affects this place. I come in for a coffee once a week when I am in town. Imagine my surprise when I saw the corner booth seats removed. I asked why and was told it's a punishment for the staff sitting there. These people are now expected to stand during their breaks and when they are eating a meal. The staff are great very nice and friendly but to be treated like this is very unprofessional. The girl with black hair and blue eyes literally acts like I'm a problem anytime I go in, never caused any issues she just genuinely hates people and her job it's very obvious at that point quit. I'm not the only one who has experienced her behavior. Today she threw my bagel at me and doesn't give an ounce of customer service, is just extremely extremely rude in general. As someone who works in customer service this behavior needs to be corrected and I'm surprised she still even works there everyone else is so kind and don't ever treat me the way she does her behavior needs to be addressed. read more

I have been road-tripping between CO and the Bay Area quite a bit this past year, catching up on visits to my elderly mother who is aging in place but I hadn't seen much due to COVID. On my last trip I stopped for the night in Elko and decided to check Yelp for someplace that was not McDonald's to grab breakfast before heading out. It was truly nice to find a non-chain coffee shop with a drive-through and easy access to I-80 that was open early. I will say that finding my way to the drive-through was not as straight forward as it might have been but even with sluggish, non-caffeinated synapses I was able to figure it out. I got myself a dirty chai and a 3-meat breakfast burrito for the road for I want to say about $12? So a little more than I would have spent at Starbucks, but oh so much more satisfying. The chai was spicy, the espresso smooth enough not to clash, and it of course provided the wakefulness I was looking for as I embarked on the ~10-hour drive I had ahead of me. The 3-meat burrito was more of a large American breakfast wrap than a burrito -- no spice whatsoever -- but it was large enough to serve as both breakfast and lunch for me. In fact, with a few other road trip snacks I had in my car I didn't really need to stop for food again for the rest of the day. Can't say the same about Starbucks, so I am a fan. I expect I will stop by again, the next time I am passing through Elko. read more

It is not their fault the owners don't keep the freezers at a temperature that freezes ice cream. Nothing worse than foamy soft hard ice cream. We threw our three ice cream cones away. The espresso I have been yearning for since I was in last, and I might have had 8 shots of it . Truly knowledgeable baristas and one highly trained owner/ head barista keeps this coffee program "soaring." And don't get me started with how cute the decor is in there. I could and am sure I will spend many a working afternoon enjoying the coffee and working at my laptop, once I get the laptop running smoother (review for computer fix-it place soon to come). This place is so amazing! I'm on a long 18hour drive and the last thing I want is some yucky Starbucks coffee. I took a chance on this place and am so pleasantly surprised. The owner was working and greeted me warmly. She let me take my time choosing a caffeinated beverage and even had a whole book of drink options! It is clean, organized, and welcoming inside - service was such a pleasure - and finally... The coffee.... I ordered a soy latte in my own travel mug and she took the time and care to make perfect espresso pours. The tendency for many inexperience baristas is to burn the espresso - not this one! The soy was perfectly fluffy and foamy and mixed well with my espresso. The best part: the whole thing took mere minutes. Forget waiting in a sea of people at corporate places, this is my kind of place. I'm back on the road and very glad I popped in here. read more

Amazing little jewel, what a find! My hopes were low as I drove through the dusty, lonesome town of Elko with an Ice Cream craving. I saw this little store and decided to chance it. The ambiance was so nice, newly remodeled with cozy chairs around a faux fireplace, books and magazines. Sparkling clean food area with the most pleasant, friendly gal behind the counter. Here is the amazing thing- in the beginning of February, they have a nice assortment of tasty Dryers ice cream, with generous scoops and reasonable prices. I didn't get a coffee, but others in the store said theirs was tasty and well done. Nice job, Cool Beans, keep up the good work!!!! read more

The drip coffee, matcha green tea frappe, and breakfast burrito (three meat burrito) were all great. The atmosphere is also nice.

We are on a road trip from Oakland California to Wyoming and stopped in Elko, Nevada for gas and I saw a Starbucks drive thru on the way to the gas station. Once at the gas station we noticed the sign across the street, "Cool Beans". That got me to literally LOL, as I used to say that all the time! It piqued our interest and we read the reviews. Luckily there was one coffee review, since that is what we wanted, so we gave it a shot. As mentioned, the service was awesome! We were greeted and offered suggestions. We had a sweet tooth and love Carmel so she suggested the Carmello Frappe with a shot (or two) of espresso. It tasted like toasted marshmallow and Carmel and yummy espresso all blended. My hubby and I each got a 16oz (their small) and it really wasn't any more expensive than going to a Starbucks, around $10.50 for both. In my opinion, the quality is far superior to Starbucks. Delicious and we will return, I'm sure on our way home!! read more

A good place to stop if you're driving through, especially if you're looking for WiFi. We were driving from San Francisco to Salt Lake City and I had to stop to take a conference call for work. There's lots of room and booth seating so you can spread out, and I was able to plug my phone and laptop in so I can Always Be Charging. The Internet access was solid, I had no problems. It did get a bit noisy in the background when they were making smoothies in the blender, but not a big deal; otherwise, it wasn't too loud to work. The barista was friendly too. Only downside is the eggnog latte I got was not very tasty -- maybe just because of the novelty flavor. read more

Aside from the awkward decor and location, this place is pretty enjoyable. Their spiced chai is pretty creamy and delicious (if you're into that sort of thing). I don't think I've ever had any of their food or ice cream, so I can't comment on that. read more

I just went in here for the first time the other day. My husband and I were getting gas and I was in dire need of coffee. I've wanted to try Cool Beans for awhile and thought this was the perfect opportunity. When I walked in, the woman immediately welcomed me and asked if I had an account with them. I told her no and she told me that their rewards club was in their system, so you didn't have to carry around a card (Buy 10 ice cream or coffee and get one free). As I love rewards clubs, I immediately said yes and liked even better that they took care of all the bookkeeping themselves! I was going to get just a regular latte and then I noticed a list of specialty drinks on a list on the counter. I tried the Raspberry Amaretto latte and my husband got the Vienne latte (orange and irish cream). The quality of the coffee was amazing. You can tell they use high quality coffee and I definitely got the caffeine hit that I needed. Their flavors they use are also really good. They are a natural syrup, so all of the flavors tasted real rather than a syrup imitating a flavor. I was afraid my husband's would be that fake orange flavor that is super sweet, but this tasted like there had been a orange brewed in with the coffee. The same goes for the raspberry in my latte. I think that was by far my favorite thing about this place--their syrups were not overly sweet and tasted like the real thing. They also put chocolate covered coffee beans on top of your cup when they give you the coffee. Best part? The price. Considering we got specialty lattes, the price was VERY reasonable. I haven't tried the ice cream here (although, I would like to once it warms up), but I can definitely say that you must try the coffee. It's right off of I-80 and is definitely worth the extra minute it takes to get here over Starbucks. read more

I am never going back to Cool Beans. On the 10th of August I went in to work on a paper. It was an afternoon and I was the only customer in the place for about thirty minutes. During which two of the younger baristas thought it would be funny to flick the lights off and on while I was trying to work. It wasn't. And I'm never going back, there are many better places to get my coffee in Elko. read more
