Service, menu and taste were All on point. I had Kitchen counter seating and it was comfortable. Really cool to see how the operation works and the cook really had his act together. A true professional. The people who assisted the cook performed like a well oiled machine. The Owner is fully involved and has a nice personality. I have a bunch of friends that live in the area, they always talk about how great the food is and I wanted to check it out. The pricing is really good! I came in around the morning time (like around 9ish) on a Sunday and it was pretty busy, I recommend getting here early if you don't want to wait though they do have seating up on a bar table if you're alone or with one other person. OK. Just Wow. This small restaurant in Pasadena has it all. Cute charm, friendly staff, and FANTASTIC food. Been in a couple of times, and have never had to wait for a table. The parking lot is sized just right for the restaurant. I have gotten the breakfast bowl more than once. It is so much food that it is almost TOO much. I do customize my order a bit, and the server doesn't bat an eye. My food comes out in about half the time expected. If you sit at the bar in back, you can watch your food being cooked. Cookie's Kitchen is a great little local place we frequent for breakfast and lunch. They have dinner specials during the week but we are the breakfast and lunch crowd. On weekend, it's breakfast only, so if you are looking for their yummy lunch menu, have to get that during the week. We enjoy their breakfast options: lots of traditional breakfast fare. Their breakfast bowl is great - all breakfast yumminess in one bowl! Biscuits and gravy are another favorite. Ambiance is definitely locals - a family friendly place. We stopped in for a late lunch the other day. I ordered the grilled cheese & bacon & my husband had a cheese steak sub. We shared an order of onion rings. Service was good and our piping hot food was quickly on the table. Everything was delicious, but we especially liked the crisp and perfectly browned onion rings. I went here because of how great I've heard it is, plus it's near my home. I thought this was more of a breakfast/lunch place so I didn't think to look at the menu because as a vegetarian, I can usually eat at any breakfast place. Well it turns out they don't serve breakfast all day (besides breakfast sandwiches), and there's absolutely nothing on the lunch menu for me. So I ended up going with a house salad, which was good and I did get full. But it was basically like your basic salad at any restaurant. Nothing special about it, and no reason for me to ever want to come back for it. If I do go here again, I will be sure to only come for breakfast because I saw they have Pecan Pancakes and that sounds absolutely amazing. You could tell this was a local place that's probably been around for awhile based on the clientele. It's like whatever holiday threw up inside but it's great. You can have conversations with complete strangers across the restaurant. This tiny unassuming little place is very cute. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Most days the seating is seat yourself, on busier days (Saturday mornings) there will be a line and a wait. The wait is worth it. I ordered steak and eggs with hasbrowns. My partner ordered chipped beef with biscuits. My steak was a HUMONGOUS rib-eye which I asked to be cooked medium rare. I also asked for crispy hashbrowns. I ask every where I go and tell them to damn near burn the hashbrowns but Cookie is the only person to actually listen. The portions are large. We could have easily split the chipped beef and biscuits. The rib-eye was larger than anything I would ever cook for myself at home. Met the owner - she was at the grill cooking. Our server introduced me to her. When Cookie was told it was my first time dining there she looked up from the grill and said "Run for your life!" Too funny. This place has spunk and pizzazz . Our server, Dawn, was so nice when we told her this was our first time eating there. Best home cooked food! The long term employees are the very best you can get. They know your name, they greet you with a warm hello, they accommodated any special needs you have. Home made soups are fabulous. Cookie is a great contributor to giving back to the community. I've been going here for probably 25+ years and it is my go to place for home cooked food. My favorite sandwich is the grilled chicken, provolone cheese, with grilled mushrooms on a Kaiser roll. Comes with chips, but I like their sweet potato fries to go with mine. A little extra but worth it. Cookie and her staff have struggled during the virus, but they have also been my saving Grace because she (they) did everything possible to keep us all fed. The seating area is small - seat yourself. The food - price to value - you will not be disappointed. What we LOVED the most and we will be going back - is the folks dining. From the minute we walked in - we were welcomed as family. The waitress was friendly - offered the special and everything about our order was prepared perfectly. My husband and I just happened to be near Pasadena when we were told about Cookie's Kitchen. We stopped by, waited a brief 10 minutes for a spot to open up, and ended up having some of the best breakfast food I've ever had! When I try a new place, I like to really put the chef to the test by trying a meal I traditionally do not care for in order to get an idea of their skill level. To me, a great chef can make most meals yummy even if the ingredients aren't my favorite to begin when. With this in mind, I went with the chipped beef gravy over biscuits with homefries, and my husband went with the cinnamon apple waffles. Both meals were phenomenal! The chipped beef is not that super salty yet bland beef and gravy slurry I've experienced EVERY WHERE ELSE since the first time I tried the dish! I was pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness and quality of ingredients used in the dish as a whole. As far as the cinnamon waffles go, these were my favorite waffles ever, and I'm an avid waffle eater and waffle lover (think Parks and Rec Leslie Knope and JJ's Diner level of waffle lovin'). If you are looking for a sweet breakfast that is not horrendously rot your teeth out sweet, I highly recommend the cinnamon apple waffles with whipped cream. The service was great! Our server, Dawn, was so delightful and kind when we told her this was our first visit. Her service was attentive but not invasive, and you could just tell that all of the servers do their jobs well and don't mind working in such a close knit environment together. This is a cozy family diner, so if that's what you're into, then great... BUT FOODIES BEWARE!! Pasadena isn't necessarily known for its restaurant scene... in fact there isn't a restaurant scene in Pasadena, and this place carries that narrative forward. Literally everything on the menu was something I could just as easily make in my own kitchen. There was nothing special, no surprises. The only surprise was that everything tasted like normal ingredients from the grocery store... and I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they were serving. The cheese that came on my breakfast sandwich was yellow American cheese... which actually is not cheese. The creamer for the coffee came in packets, which I absolutely do NOT consume. The bread tasted like cheap white bread from the grocery store, not fresh from a local place like I've come to expect in all my modern progressive snobbery... lol I can say that the service was good, and the place was PACKED, which does reflect on the place's reputation among the locals. I call this place happy. If I think about it I'm happy. What makes happiness at breakfast? A quirky staff does. Must be the leadership. The decorations do. Style with a hint of sass. This was my first time here and it is small, but it was raining so we weren't in a hurry. A packed parking lot is my best clue that there's something good here. It didn't take 30 seconds in line to figure out these were all regulars and everyone was happy. People waiting in line were schmoozing with the staff and with each other. One person asked me if this was my first time. Once I said yes It seemed half of everyone in there heard me - it was suddenly like a reunion or something welcoming the new family member. One of the regulars said real loud "can I get some service please?" and the place got quiet for 1 second. The owner came out of the kitchen with a pizza paddle to mock whack our new friend, delighting his companions and everyone else. This is my new favorite breakfast in AA County. It's clear as soon as you approach, that this is one of those locally beloved, word of mouth kind of places. They seem to do a pretty good business. Kind of cute, kind of homey, some mom-like waitstaff. But the food just isn't that spectacular. Maybe we're spoiled by the easy presence of some great breakfast joints in A.A. County. The breakfast at Cookie's is as basic as you get. (The last breakfast we had that was this uninspiring was at a Cracker Barrel in Emporia, VA which was the only game in town.) Scrambled eggs, dry, flat. Blah toast, blah french toast (like mom used to make, with white bread and plain egg.) Coffee was a little overcooked, but decent, and they brought more. The side of breakfast meat amounted to one stick of bacon, and a little disk of sausage sitting dryly and forlornly on a side plate.
