I ordered a half a sandwich with turkey and manchego cheese with Calabrian chili aioli along with a creme brûlée conchete. The sandwich was terrific - so flavorful. I liked it so much we ordered it delivered the next day at work for lunch. That time I had my sandwich on a croissant and part of a chocolate chip cookie and they were both heavenly. Go and try it! I didn't see the water, and slipped and indeed fell quite hard. I'm youngish and spry, and was able to bounce back, and am just sore and achy. But nobody made any comment to me or expressed any concern (other than other guests). I in fact had to report the incident after flagging someone down, and nobody offered as much as an apology or asked if I was ok. I'm honestly glad it was me rather than an older person, as the outcome could have been rough. The food at McLain's is consistently good. I don't care for their coffee or espresso, but it's just not to my taste, I don't think it's poor quality. Bottom line, I think they could work on their soft skills regarding their guests (particularly when potential injuries are on the table). That said, do get a chicken salad sandwich from them. I ordered the lemon bar, a brownie and an iced vanilla latte. I believe they have a sign that says they use Messenger coffee, but don't quote me on it. The brownie had little bits of chocolate chips in it and you can tell it has super rich cocoa powder in it too! The lemon bar was my ABSOLUTE fave. You can taste how fresh the lemon juice is with little bites of zest I believe. Crust is firm so the bar doesn't fall apart, but has the perfect bite to match the sweetness of the lemon curd. Just fantastic and next time, I'll be ordering 2 bars!

What appears to be a mom and pop bakery is actually a baker who has carefully done his research and brings himself up to date on the latest trends of flavor in the baking world. The vibes are amazing - I especially love the art piece on the wall he commissioned from a local artist. I saw the Instagram page with several posts explaining how he did each part. Everything was absolutely delicious (I am biased with the ham and gruyere cheese since that is a favorite combo of mine), the danish was delicious (I could tell maybe it uses veryberryosa - a recent trend in baking to be used as filling), and the same was probably on the cinnamon roll looking crossaint. Now the grand prize - the mochi donuts were spectacular. The flavors I got were raspberry almond (my #1 favorite I got twice), cereal (this was carefully curated and not too sweet like most cereal based baked goods), Irish coffee (didn't taste like coffee, gave it to a friend) and the mango black tea was also a slam dunk for me. The staff are incredibly friendly here which is a huge plus!

Everything else dessert-related has grown basic, boring, and bland by comparison. Don't look back: you're not going that way. I haven't sampled everything here; however, I've never been disappointed by this place. My favorite is their strawberry rhubarb pie-- tart and sweet, even better with some vanilla ice cream on top. The classic apple is always a good choice--warm it up and prepare to die happy. Their caramel apple pie is rare and obscenely delectable -- DO NOT MISS THAT OPPORTUNITY! Their crust is flaky, buttery, and it pairs perfectly with the fruity goodness inside. The sugar sprinkled atop is their signature and what can I say? I never want any other pie again (don't tell my mom, okay?!). It's pointless. I can always count on sister-owners, Elaine and Jan, when I need to bring a treat to a get together. I have called numerous times at the last minute and they're always kind enough to set something aside or help me get a hold of the perfect little something. While pie is the star of the show, their pecan bars are equally delicious--salty n' sweet-- maybe just sinful! Also: did I mention they have the perfect hostess gifts? Tons of thoughtful presents for people you love, or just get yourself those darling oven mitts with dogs on them, you deserve it! I miss the days when I could come here with a friend and grab a cozy little table and enjoy a slice together. But you can take it to go and find a spot to sit outside-- or, if you're me, scarf it down in the car on your drive home. I love this place, I can't get enough, and it's always just what I'm craving.
