Her personal chef service is a lifesaver for busy working people who want healthy meals in their own kitchen for an incredibly reasonable price. Initially, I thought this would be a great opportunity for my husband and I, who are new to the Bay Area, to explore Berkeley and learn to cook some unusual food. Initially, Traci was very kind and accommodating, even stating that she could hypothetically honor the Groupon I had purchased beyond the expiration date because I am a high school teacher with lots of after-school obligations in Redwood City and she only offers certain classes on certain days, which was not explicitly stated on the Groupon. I booked a class for December 21st, about a month after my pleasant phone conversation with Traci herself. Fast forward a month, and I was very sick with a sinus infection and was on antibiotics, which I would think NO ONE would want in their kitchen creating food. I called Traci and very politely explained the situation and asked her if I could reschedule for some time in January, as we had discussed earlier. She was EXTREMELY rude, saying "I don't know why you waited till the last minute" and "I have a business to run," as if I could foresee getting sick or like I would want to miss out on an opportunity I had ALREADY PAID FOR! She was very unprofessional, and I am very upset that my money is unusable because I no longer feel comfortable attending what might have been a great experience, and, on top of that, Groupon will not refund the money. Both Groupon and Traci should be embarrassed of their behavior. read more

We had a fantastic evening of cooking, eating and conversation with Chef Traci as well as a cozy night of sleep and a delicious assortment of goodies for breakfast! How could you go wrong? My parents bought an experience with Chef Traci for me for Christmas and my best friend and I (who both love to cook) went for the overnight experience. It was easy to book our evening and we received info about what we would be cooking and what we might want to bring along. Traci was ready for us right on time and welcomed us into her home which is basically a Bed and Breakfast through AirBnB with all delicious, wholesome treats made in house. There was a welcome brownie, which I may have eaten before we started cooking...possibly. Anyway, then Traci got us started cooking a fantastic chicken Tagine, plus two other courses. She's very relaxed and down to earth, providing direction without micromanaging. She did give me some good tips to improve my chopping! Then we abandoned our aprons and enjoyed being served the fruits of our labors. The tagine was To. Die. For. Good. We then tucked into one of the cozy, clean, well-appointed AirBnB rooms and slept soundly. The breakfast spread was serve-yourself and there were so many options! I had one of each, naturally. As you can tell, we had a great experience. I would say everything about the experience was delicious, hearty and cozy, without an ounce of pretense. Those looking for a shiny Sur La Table class and a night at the four seasons should look elsewhere. However, those who want to have a classic cooking experience, learn practical tips, and a cozy, like-home-but-better getaway, you're in the right place. I came to know Chef Traci's cullinary deliciousness through staying at her and Dan's AirBnB - her breakfast and baked goods became a major part of why I say there as much as there is available whenever I need to be in Berkeley. Her breakfasts are highlighted by high protein Quiches and baked goods that are so good that I purchased 2 bakers' dozens of cherry muffins and chocolate cookies and took it to work in the morning. Before I could get a bite a little later at work, they were all gone! Traci was my personal chef for a small dinner party. She arrived with fresh groceries in hand and got to work right away in my kitchen. In two hours she'd prepared fresh fish with tangy flavorful salsa, Spanish rice, and a delicious roasted broccoli side (and she even washed the dishes she'd used along the way) -- all for an extremely reasonable price. (She also gave me welcome tips on improving my salad dressing.) Although she left a few hours before my guests arrived, we all toasted her and the delicious meal she'd prepared. For my 50th birthday party Chef Traci lead nine of us in a Moroccan cooking class in our own kitchen. It was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Chef Traci was easy to work with while planning the menu and accommodated all of our requests. On the evening of the party, she struck a perfect balance of instruction and fun. We prepared the appetizers first, then ate them, then returned to the kitchen to cook the main course. It was a bonus to be in our own kitchen and to see a professional chef making it work. Chef Traci worked well with people of all cooking levels. She got everyone cooking -- even those who normally don't cook -- and even the most experienced cooks in the group learned something. Everyone went home with a party favor (a spice mix that we made together) and a print-out of the recipes. In addition to bringing everything we needed, Traci cleaned the kitchen while we ate.
