This is a review for the Bliss Belly summer camp. My daughter participated summer 2018. It sounded fantastic--from the healthy delicious menu, to the incorporation of yoga and mindfulness (all aspects my daughter had experience and enjoyment of). The idea of integration of cooking with mindfulness and yoga has so much potential. Unfortunately, it was not realized. I'm not sure if it was the age ranges (maybe there were a lot more young children than she expected), but my daughter did nothing besides cutting/chopping in terms of cooking. Neela (and the teens) did all of the actual cooking and often finished the entire dish b/c they ran out of time according to my daughter). I expect the children to actually be measuring, mixing, stirring, etc--and more, if they are over the age of 8. There was so many teen helpers and a large kitchen. I didn't see why they couldn't have small groups all seeing (cooking) a recipe from beginning to end. Especially for the cost. No skills were learned other than how to cut veggies (which many children already know). And even so, they barely used the knives each was told to buy. We had to ask for the recipes afterward. In addition, at least twice, when something was "off" about the final product, she told us parents that the kids had made the mistake. My daughter and her friend (age 10+) told us the teacher had done it, not the children (which makes sense since they weren't measuring or cooking). There was absolutely no reason for my daughter to lie about this, nor for the instructor to place blame. It was such a strange experience. I recommend that parents who want their children to actually cook and/or do some yoga, go elsewhere and save your money. When I asked my daughter about the mindfulness piece (of which my daughter has a lot of experience), she said there was nothing--it wasn't tied into talking about where the produce was coming from, in focusing on chopping, nor in eating and really tasting the food textures etc (all easy ways to incorporate mindfulness). It sounds like Bliss Belly's adult classes are great, but the kids camp needs much work. read more
