My husband and I decided to go one day when we saw it wasn't super crowded. The service was fast and efficient. The food is pretty basic but not bad, and the prices are hard to beat. Definitely recommend getting the trays as we found them to be a great value. My husband was intrigued that you could get a wrap as a side with the trays and enjoyed his bacon wrap. My favorite side was probably the hush puppies. We returned a couple days later because we wanted to try the ice cream. Glad we did because the shakes are a definite highlight! A friend visiting from NC asked if we had a Cookout here in Tallahassee. I said No, then googled it for locations, only to discover Tally has one. We were on our way back from the dentist and I suggested we try it out for lunch. It was crowded, and I could tell the line moved slow because guests are not familiar with the menu. Very broad menu. Many many choices. We each got burger tray. One single, one double. Sides were fries, o-rings, slaw. Coke and a Diet Coke. The double w cheese was tasty (almost a charbroiled taste similar to BK) CC fries were hot and crisp. Orings were over cooked and very dark. Slaw was chopped cabbage with a hint of sweetness and very little dressing. Fountain drinks were as expected. Our bill was just under $20. I rate it better than McDonalds because it had the chargrilled flavor AND service was soooo much faster. I'll try it again when I'm on that N Monroe side of town. read more

I waited for 30 minutes for my food, only to watch the manager start making free food for what I assume were employees off the clock, so I inquired about my food and was informed it hadn't been started. Service was quick and polite. The burger tasted good the fry's were okay, and the milk shake was a milk shake. I ordered the "big" double allegedly their largest hamburger. I don't think I've seen a smaller hamburger since I was ordering off the kids menu 60 years ago. It was so small, that when I was handed the box it was in I checked to make sure there was actually a burger in the box. I Will likely go there again but only for a milkshake. read more

We use to drive to the Cook Outs in North Carolina on the way to the mountains. Now they are in Tallahassee it's so rewarding. I usually do the drive thru but today I sat inside with my bride. The staff was cleaning non stop. The place is spotless and the food is consistent in taste. No, it's not a higher price burger but it's a Saturday after a hard day working in the yard good. We really wanted to enjoy the food as we've have had in other states but not with that pandemonium occurring at this location. The service could have been approached differently perhaps with an employee managing the traffic flow. An old favorite just made its way to Tallahassee! I've been missing and craving Cook Out ever since I moved to Florida, so I couldn't wait to check out the new spot. I've already been twice since they opened, and both visits have been solid. I usually order the grilled chicken sandwich (regular chicken tray), but I was surprised to see they're serving crinkle-cut fries here. Must be a Florida twist, because that's definitely different from the NC locations I'm used to. Aside from that change, the food tastes just as I remember, and the milkshakes are still thick--something I was a little worried about but happy to see they kept consistent. Because of the location, I'm glad they had plenty of staff outside directing traffic, and the team was quick with getting orders out. The inside is nice, but there isn't much seating, so plan your visit accordingly. When it's busy, it's definitely not ideal to park on-site. Overall, great to have Cook Out in Tallahassee--feels like a taste of home. read more

Cookout on Monroe wasn't busy today so I stopped by for the first time. I ordered a sandwich, side and a drink, which is a combination at most restaurants. My items were rung up separately which came to $12 and change. The drink came quickly and the food was just behind. My "shake" was ice cream to be eaten with a spoon. A straw would not work. My BBQ sandwich was too salty, barely tolerable. I had to keep eating ice cream after each bite. The onion rings were great. I read their menu while eating and figured out my order was really a combo, which they call a tray. My cashier knew I was a first time customer. The tray/ combo of sandwich, side and drink comes with 2 sides. My cashier did not tell me that I could get a second side and save money. It would have been $10.19 plus tax, so under $11. All this was shared by me with several employees on my way out. Two different employees said they are trained not to tell customers about the tray deal. What's up with that. I was in the restaurant business for 40 years; most of which was as a manager, 17 years as an owner. Rule one is given every customer a positive, memorable experience. Needless to say I will not be back. I see no reason to support a place that goes out of its way to not support its patrons. read more
