I travel to Suffolk regularly for work and always look for local spots I can't find back home. I've driven by Cook Out many times, but the poor reviews always held me back. On Tuesday, I decided to stop in for just a shake--and honestly, it was very good. That gave me some hope, so I came back Wednesday for a full meal. Unfortunately, the reviews were right--if anything, they didn't go far enough. The experience started off rough. The cashier had one of the worst attitudes I've come across in any restaurant. No greeting, no help, no acknowledgment--even after I mentioned it was my first time eating there. She seemed completely uninterested in being there and definitely didn't want to help customers. I ordered a shake, double cheeseburger, onion rings, and hush puppies. My shake was slapped down on the counter, and it was so sticky it nearly took two hands to pick it up. The tables were dirty, everything felt sticky, and I was immediately glad I had ordered to-go. The food looked decent in the container, but the taste didn't follow through. It was all just... bad. Greasy, bland, and disappointing. It doesn't seem like the owner has eaten here recently--or maybe even visited the place in a while. If they had, I imagine things would look and feel very different. Customer service can't be rude sometimes (luck of the draw), second line closed without any come or anything to stop people from entering, the drive thru worker wasn't even telling people over the intercom that the line was closed until a line formed and I was waiting for several minutes being passed by several others that arrived behind me. A great fast food restaurant you get a hell of a lot of food for your money and they have an extensive selection of milkshakes I like that there are actual entree type items offered as sides like a walking taco or a chicken wrap Today my two sides were a honey mustard chicken wrap and a beef quesadilla those alone could fill me up my entree was a Cajun style grilled chicken sandwich I also upgraded my drink to a fancy shake and it was the thickest peach cobbler shake I've ever had they know too because they legit give you a spoon with it they know that straw will not handle all of that. Mine had full peach slices and hearty cobbler pieces I did not finish my meal in one sitting I was able to snack all day and still have some ice cream left My total was just over 10$ so definitely a great deal The service today was very quick and the cashier was nice the parking lot was clean as well and the double drive thru helped the line move pretty quickly read more

There's always something wrong with my order here. From a wrong burger to a wrong order to something as simple as not receiving lite ice. I don't even go at busy times either, won't be coming back. Cookout located on Indian River Rd. in Va Beach is 5x as busy as here and yet they've never messed up an order. Absolutely unacceptable. I order a meal, a bid double burger, Out West Style, with fries and onion rings, and a side of cheese bites, and just a plain hot dog for my pup. The server practically pushed the food out the window to me. I live twenty minutes away. I get home, and there is no burger, and no onion rings. There were fries, a couple of chicken nuggets, and two hot dogs. I attempted to call to speak to a manager, and the number to their business is "not in service." I ordered a big double burger with two walking tacos, if you haven't tried them i would recommend. The burger was hot and the topping were fresh. The walking tacos were just as delicious. Yee-haw! Cook Out (CO) is comin' to Suffolk! So, saddle up, partner--I stopped by on their opening day, and I'm ready to tell you my tale. I've been planning to check out CO, but when I found out one was being built right down on N. Main St., I was excited. When I knew today was *the* day, I grabbed my boys and we headed over there. The parking lot was crazy, though, so I decided to eat lunch at Chick-fil-A across the street instead. However, when we were done, the parking lot at CO had quieted down. Being the good Yelper that I am, we went over to CO even with our tummies full. That's dedication! The first thing I noticed is that they have a double drive-thru--I have never seen that before! The second thing that caught my eye was the interior when we walked inside. For a fast food joint, CO is pretty cool. CO is a southern chain (North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee) that boasts their "cooked outdoor style," and they use a hunting lodge/Old West décor. I *really* dig the feel of the place. I love the high ceilings (except when it's busy in there and too loud) and the unique sink next to the counter and condiments station (see my pic). The service was quite impressive, especially on their first day. The staff was friendly (not CFA-friendly, but much better than the average fast food establishment), the order process was fast, and the food came out without any errors. So far, so good. Right? *gulp* Well, folks, that's where the positives stop. We all shared a hot dog Cook Out Style (Mustard, Homemade Chili, Homemade Slaw, Onion), a regular burger Out West Style (Mayo, BBQ Sauce, Pickles, Bacon, Onion), a small fry, and 3 shakes (Strawberry, Mocha, and Caramel Fudge). Fries: I thought they were awful. They reminded me of Burger King's fries when they changed to their yucky ones. No flavor at all. Enough said. Burger: My oldest ate this by himself, but I did take a small bite of the meat. When I opened up the wrapper, it looked like a hot mess. Again, it reminded me of BK's burgers--tasted like flame broiled, dry, and overdone. My son said it was the worst he's ever had. Moving on... Hot Dog: I took two-three bites and that was all I could finish. The hot dog was super tiny--no plump, juicy dog here. I know there was coleslaw in there, but I couldn't taste it with all that salty chili on top. Blah. Shakes: Okay. I lied. The shakes were pretty decent, especially the strawberry. If I were to ever return, it would be for the shakes. Look, I had low expectations anyway, but I wanted to try it out. I was impressed with the service and the ambiance. I have a feeling that CO will be busy--the big draw here is the value. If you can deal with regular fast food, then you might be pleasantly surprised at CO. For me, it's a big no. What a shit hole! Every table was dirty and the one I sat at was sticky. You could see the swirl marks where they wiped everything down with a dirty rag. Can you say gross? And the floor was greasy slick, dirty, and something was leaking in the one area with standing water. I truly, honestly almost feel on my ass. I really hate to see what the food prep area looks like. This was the 1st Cook Out I've been to that had inside seating. This made my Cook Out experience even better. I ordered the Cook Out Tray, which is always the best value and a lot of food. On the tray you order one main item, then two sides, and a beverage - all for one low price. Waited in line 25 minutes to get helped. Only one line was open. Cars were wrapped around the bldg. 2nd line vehicles were asked to go to the 1st line. A lot of cars left and went elsewhere. There are 7 places open until 10 and 4 until midnite within a 1/4mile radius. There were no available parking spots because the teens had parked there and were out "tailgating" and talking. The manager could have had them move, but no manager could be seen. This was at 8:00 pm on N. Main St in Suffolk,Va. I eat there several times a week. When I saw the low rating, I was thinking how is a Cook Out rated so low... it's a Cook Out... I can honestly say I've never had a food quality issue with Cook Out. Anyway, I ordered the Club Style Chicken, Cheese Fries, and a Sweet Tea. Club Style Chicken - not hot, not seasoned, not good Cheese Fries - not hot, barely had any cheese sauce on them, barely had any fries Sweet Tea - not sweet at all The person who picked up the order said the speaker in drive thru was terrible, and they messed up his order. Once I got to the window they only gave me the first order and said I would have to go back around and place the second order. As I looked around and noticed, I was the only vehicle in the drive through and parking lot. They still refused to give me the second order unless I went back through the line again. Stopped by for a late lunch (2:30pm). Line wasn't bad given these COVID times; the drive thru speaker is awful. They can't hear you, you can't hear them. After ordering 4 burgers, 3 sides, 4 sodas the total was ~$30. Not a bargain, but was hoping it would be worth it. Shocker, it wasn't. Burgers served on wonder bread buns and the meat tasted like it was cooked by your Uncle Gus who can't cook and thinks char is a seasoning profile. Worst. Food. Ever. My husband brought me chicken quesadillas. There were two folded pieces of tin foil, didn't look like anything was in there. I went ahead and unwrapped one; the burrito wrapper has hard on the edges as if it had been left out, the middle was cold and flabby, and it looked like that's all it was!! I cut into it to see if there WAS something in there. There was a tiny layer of cheese and some kind of sauce, and that was it. Terrible. Customer service is slipping fast. This Cook Out was our favorote place to eat, but not so much any more. It is clear that Corporate needs to do some mystery shopping here. In the kast 4 or 5 visits, my order has NEVER been correct. The staff get frustrated with customers because the drive through speaker is HORRIBLE, the staff seem to be more concerned with the pressure of getting cars out of the drive through rather than getting orders correct. We only come here now because it is nearby, not because we enjoy the experience anymore. I would love to see the Suffolk Cookout be a positive experience again, but they need a MAJOR OVERHAUL. The restaurant is clean and the food is hot and fresh. They are very reasonably priced. They have a wide assortment of milkshake flavors and they actually use real fruit and not syrups. Everything was good other than the young lady's in the drive thru don't pay attention

First the good. The place didn't smell bad and the temperature was comfortable. That's about it. Now the bad. Service was subpar. They got the order completely wrong. Onions on a cheeseburger that we specifically requested no onions on. Went back to get it replaced, while waiting for that discovered that my strawberry milkshake was vanilla. Went back to get that replaced. While I was waiting at the counter for my meal to be corrected the staff visibly started arguing over who's fault the mix up was. Once I received the "correct" meal everything was soggy and bland and on round 2 the cheeseburger they forgot the cheese.
