The worst cookout I have been through. The customer service was horrible. We only got two milk shakes, she didn't give us straws only spoons. Then the one milk shake was covered in ice cream and we had to wipe and ask for more napkins, the second milk shake had a hole in the cup and I gave it back to her and she just put it in another cup and rudely handed it back to me. The peppermint milk shake doesn't even taste like peppermint it tastes like vanilla ice cream. Not going back to this cookout. read more

Across from the WalMart on Rutherford, this location is in an area that sees heavy traffic during weekdays and when MTSU is in session. The restaurant is easy to see, just turn in when you see Starbucks or Cook Out if you are coming from the south. The burgers really do taste like you went to a friends house and had a burger that they cooked on their grill. Not fancy but satisfying. The slaw is straight out of a famous fried chicken chain that is know for a founder that likes wearing white suits. The beans are better left behind the counter as they were very salty. I can get behind the shakes, though. The flavor selection is large and my peanut butter shake was rich and creamy and tasted like they put real peanut butter in it, which I'm hoping they did! Overall, a decent place for a casual meal. Just stay away from those beans! read more

I'd like to start off my saying there is a wonderfully placed Taco Bell nearby. Not only did it take longer than the lifespan of a red winged blackbird to get through that drive through, but it also lacked that blessed cook out quality that I so desperately craved. I asked for light ice in my sprite, but apparently to them, "light" means fill the entire cup up with ice and then add the 2 ounces of liquid. I fear that if I order "heavy" ice they would just place a six pound ice block in my lap and call it a day. I also ordered a regular barbecue sandwich, which did not meet my needs in the sauce department. Sauce is a key element for me because like I always say, "without sauce, we can't enjoy lacrosse." Great price for cheap cafeteria style burgers and fries! Whenever I'm in town, I must stop here! While I was pregnant I would sometimes eat here twice during my stay in Murfreesboro. The burgers are good, always cooked made to order, very fresh, hot, and tasty. I love the cheese fries here. Crinkle fries with actual cheese sauce. None of that sprinkle shredded cheese. The food at other Cook Out stores is generally good and it is generally one of my favorite chain restaurants. Not this one. I can't try the food. You see, this place is near where I work. When I take my lunch break, I like to sit down in a restaurant and relax. I can't do that here. There dining room is closed. I believe it has been closed for about 2 years. First it was the pandemic and I was patient. But now, our area is in the low risk category. It seems like every other restaurant chain or independent has opened their dining rooms - except this one. I wonder why. Is it because they can't hire anyone in this labor market? I wonder why no one wants to work here. I wonder what is so bad. I think if it effects the food quality. Open the dining room and I may enjoy this food, but after yet another disappointment of a locked door, I have now stopped even checking. Opening night of a new restaurant. How glamorous! Really though, the place is fairly good, especially considering the price. The selections are what one might call standard American "summertime" fare; burgers, hotdogs, assorted chicken items, and pulled bbq plates. They have a pretty impressive milkshake list as well. The restaurant bills itself as "cooked outdoors style", and I'd have to agree based on what I tried. My burger tasted like something that would game off a grill at a park, or perhaps from the concession shack of a little league game. The veggies on the burger were of higher quality than I expected for the price. There are quite a few side items to choose from, and you're able to pick two for a combo. I also opted for a shake, and it was definitely better than most shakes from fast food joints. The prices are very low as well; with most of the sandwich items being a couple bucks and nearly all of the sides only costing 99 cents. Their combos are slightly over 4 dollars. All in all, it seems a decent alternative to typical nationwide burger chains, especially if you're wanting to spend very little. Opening up right next to several student apartment complexes was probably a brilliant decision on their part, as this is exactly the sort of place I would have loved to have next door during my broke college days. read more

We went here on opening weekend and were not impressed. In fact, my wife and I agreed that we would never come back. Well, we did try it again a few months later and it was like a completely different restaurant. Great burgers, spicy chicken sandwich is good. We like all the options for sides because you don't have to always get French fries. And the peanut butter milkshake is the best. We have lunch there about once a week now and are never disappointed. I rate it a 5 because it exceeds all expectations. I have it a 4 because the fries looked good but not amazing. I got a "huge" burger steak-style with cheese, onion rings and a fudge-caramel shake. The burger comes out piping hot, juicy and at least 2 inches thick. The onion rings are crunchy, thick, and plentiful. The shake is premium, very thick and has real vanilla. and VERY reasonably-priced. Beats every chain hands-down. You can easily have a GREAT meal for $6. Burgers taste like cooked in the back yard. Portions are a bit on the small side but very well worth the money. My family of four walked out of there reasonably full for 24 bucks. I cant even take them to mcdonalds for that and get that kind of quality. Hubby fell in love with the strawberry cheesecake milkshake. It tasted like ground beef overcooked in manwhich sloppy joe sauce. My girlfriend ordered a burger with onion rings. They both tasted like they came from sonic.
