I was visiting Kinston, NC for work and thought I'd try the local, regional flavor. So I visited a local fast food chain, Cook Out, my first time ever at this chain. But I should have kept with the reliable Chick-fil-A's of the world. I had the grilled chkn sandwich--cheddar style. It was edible. The cheese, however, was liquid yellow cheese, not sliced cheddar. In fact, I didn't taste any cheddar at all. The chicken was a little tough. The bacon and grilled onions were the best part of the sandwich. My onion rings needed ketchup because they tasted like how restaurant kitchen dishwater smells, you know, that sort of musty, metallic/soapy smell. I had one by itself (yuk), then two with ketchup, then threw the last five rings away (btw: this was my double-order - 8 onion rings w/ heavy breading). As it turned out, 8 was 8 too many since they weren't very good. My vanilla milkshake was nothing more than soft serve "icy milk." There was no creamy consistency to it. It had that ice milk crystalline texture, even after it partially melted...like 60 minutes later. I know it's fast food, (and it was very fast), so my expectations were low to begin with. But I figured it would be better than this. On the upside, it was inexpensive, only $10.30. The service staff were nice enough and it was a very clean restaurant, hence the 2 star rating, but the food was definitely lacking. Just skip it, unless you need cheap food in a hurry and don't care what it tastes like. Or maybe, the other items are decent--I don't know? Waited in the drive thru 20 mins and people were driving up to the window to order their food. Finally responded to us when we drove up, but had a nasty attitude at the window. Got ONE milkshake. Got home and the cup had a hole in the bottom of it, so a good portion of it had already drained out in the car. HORRIBLE service on a Friday afternoon. I definitely won't go there again. Love their shakes, but not worth the effort to be treated like this. Obviously, they don't need our money because they certainly don't think we're worth any effort on their part. Food was average for a CookOut. However the restrooms were a disaster. Also don't put the grumpy, no personality, employees at the register. ZERO customer service from the lady. Lastly it would be a good idea to periodically clean the restaurant throughout the shift. read more

I tried cook out for the first time and it was pretty good coming from a New Yorker. Had the western style burger with hush puppies. My cousin had a steak style burger with the cheese bites. The cheese bites are really good. No complaints. Typical fast food grub. read more

I dont frequent this location because every time I do it's not a pleasant meal. I needed was out running around and needed to get something small and quick so I figured I'd give them another try. I have given this location multiple tries. my order is never right and always missing something. Tonight I went to order my family some food. I kept getting cut off when trying to order, when I got to the window the employee looked out the window to see how many cars were there and said "damn"and seemed to not be paying attention to what she was doing. One of the burgers was incorrect and seemed "slapped" together , was missing 2 sides and a bottle of water. Cashiers name was Kylia. I don't usually complain but I have not had 1 good experience since living in this area for the last 3 years. read more

I ordered 3 chili dogs and discovered when I got home that the chili was dry and tasted old..I asked for some onions, not 3 metric tons of it on my hotdog they generously gifted me.. I had to tell him three times how many hot dogs I wanted. Overall it was a very bad meal. read more

We were just traveling through this town and stopped in for a quick supper. 5 pm on a Thursday. The restaurant was extremely clean and had lots of smiling employees. The food was very fresh and fast with a more than reasonable price. Prolly the best fast food in a while for us. You just cant beat the price and amount if food you get for $5. Usually I think a first review with 5 stars would be an employee, but I am not. Just passing through. I guess this is a new restaurant being I'm the first. Thanks for the service. read more

Cookout started out so strong when they first opened. Everything was always fresh and tasty. Now, the food kind of sucks. The last few burgers I've gotten are about half the size of the bun. They are also way too overdone. I did give three stars for the milkshakes. There's nothing quite as good as a Cookout milkshake. read more

This place is FAST and the orders have always been correct for us. The staff is also pretty welcoming. If grabbing shakes or a quick burger, this is one of the best fast food places in town. read more

I got my quesadilla and it was fully uncooked and everything fell out of it as soon as I picked it up. Tell me how u mess up a chicken and cheese quesadilla. That was the only thing I got. As well as the cashier rolling her eyes when I asked for a water and sauce. The cashier devante was the one serving me, and rolling her eyes at me.
