Walking taco and 2 corn dogs!

Slow going through the drive thru 11pm on a Wednesday, BUT it was worth the wait! The food was prepared correctly and FRESH! Everything was delicious ! We are always pleasantly surprised when we find a good stop for our impromptu adventures on the late night return trip!

WE moved from Cornelius to Denver a little under a year ago and got to visit one time prior to the moved. Been three of four times since the move. This used to be a KFC that was heavily renovated to the Cook Out format. With Covid, most visits have been through the Drive Through. Food is typical Cook Out fare with nice juicy burgers and choice of topping and condiments. Have not had one yet that was overcooked and dry. The Milkshakes are out of this world with an amazing number of flavors. Only negative thing is accessibility. West Catawba Ave has a concrete divider so if you're West Bound, you have to go up a bit and make a U-turn at the next intersection to get into the East Bound Lane. If when you leave and you want to go West, you have to travel down to the intersection with Torrance Chapel and make another U-turn. Cornelius Traffic Engineers did not make it easy to get into here but the Burgers are worth it.

I was thinking 'ketchup' but bartender offered BBQ sauce and some odd looking peppery vinegar which was actually pretty good with my gender neutral meal. roadhouse burger looked just mahvelous but was it threatening to muss things up until I performed an emergency tomato extraction reducing the wet content and avoiding spillage. traditional toppings set up nicely: ketchup, mustard, pickles, and lettuce plus American cheese and put the tomato on the side please. munch, munch, munch sip, munch, yeah ...that's the stuff

We ordered and shared a city sampler which included a sausage link, smoked turkey, pulled pork and brisket. It was more than enough for us to share and included two sides and Texas toast. The wife got fried okra and I got baked beans because there is plenty of brisket mixed in with the beans. Service however was awful on this visit. When we arrived around 5:50 pm we were the only ones in line and yet the girl that was supposed to be taking orders was at the far end of the counter talking to some young guy. I know she had to see us but it was quite obvious that her conversation with him was more important than waiting on customers as she let us stand there several minutes before ending the conversation and coming to take our order. Then when my name was called to come pick up our order, a girl just handed my tray to me and turned around and walked away, no thank you, hope you enjoy it, nothing. How do you enteract with customers and not even speak to them?? The dining room was not clean. My wife had to clean off the table we sat at and there were napkins and a recipient laying on the floor in front of one of the trash cans. There wasn't that many diners at the time and too many employee's standing around for the dining room not to have been kept clean. The food would have been good if it had been served much warmer than it was and the service sucked!! We have had many good experiences here at City Barbeque in the past but the wife and I agreed after being served lukewarm food and the beyond crappy customer service we will no longer spend our hard earned money here so a return visit will not be happening.

The place looks like a pub, inside and out, with a huge patio in the rear. All the workers we encountered were really polite and personable. It was very clean inside, even the bathrooms. We pretty much knew what we wanted but enjoyed looking at the menu anyway. Started off with a 20 oz Black & Tan and a 16 oz Harps. So good. My husband had the Fish and Chips. Perfect fry, thick and flaky fish, served with a side of malt vinegar and tartar sauce. The slaw was crisp and savory and the fries crisp. He loved every bite. I had the Bangers and Mash. The sausage was tender with a delicious onion gravy. Some veggies were included (green beans, cauliflower and carrot). The mash itself was creamy and chunky, just the way I love it. Complete comfort food. We ended the meal by splitting a dish of Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was sweet and savoury, with a hint of salt to balance, topped with vanilla ice cream and more toffee sauce. (I haven't had a Sticky Toffee Pudding since I was a child and this was such a delicious treat to share.) The whole experience was exceptional and we cannot wait to go back.

They, very kindly, offered to put us on the list while we were in-route! We arrived and were seated within minutes. Very cool of them to do that! Our waiter was very patient, friendly and explained the specials and menu items in detail. He made the dining a positive experience for sure! Potato bites were good. Whatever the shmear underneath was it could use some more of that! Bangers and mash were meh. Bland mash, overcooked bangers and not enough gravy. I was provided some extra gravy though. Fish and Chips were a big hit! Perfect cook and the batter was light, crisp and stuck to the fish well! Tartar was great. Slaw was on the boring side but unnecessary in the end. Everyone was friendly, a band was playing, the lights were dim, drinks were cold and the fish is good. If you live in the area I highly recommend checking it out!

We were seated promptly and had time to look at the menus and special February menu. The place is lively without being too loud, you can easily have a conversation going and not have to shout at each other. Our server, Krystyna, took our drink orders and offered to put in an appetizer to start. We went with the deviled eggs, these are so delicious, but as I have said before, they are pricey. Entrees were next. We decided on the Tomahawk pork chop with charred carrots and ancient grain pilaf. It looked like a caveman's plate! The chop was tender and flavorful and the carrots were 3 whole carrots that you had to cut up. Very different. The best part was the ancient grain side. So, so good. Nice compliment to the chop and carrots. I had to take half home it was just so much food. Next entree was the 7oz Filet with Parmesan mashed potatoes. Garlic butter was added to the steak which finished it off nicely. It was cooked to the right temperature and looked delicious. We were interested in dessert, but not something so big. They have a large portion dessert menu, but we just wanted a small bite to finish our dinner with. If you ask, they can do some mini desserts for you. We tried the mini crème brûlée cheesecake. It is two squares of cheesecake with a bit of whipped cream, raspberry syrup and berries. Perfect size for two if you are quite full but just want a little something sweet. Overall, the service was good. We had to wait a bit for bread, but not a big deal. We enjoyed our night out before Valentine's Day. I still would like to come in for their weekend brunch. Sometime soon.
