Nice little place in the centre of town. Cosy and friendly. Perfect for a nice breakfast, served all day!

Finally catching up on my reviews from a trip Sue and I took to Wales in July…read more One of our first stops after landing in Manchester was in Conwy. We stopped here as this is the town where Sue's mom was born. After wandering around on a Saturday morning we sought out a place that we might find a proper Welsh breakfast. We came upon the store part on the bottom floor and while inside I noticed a sign for a cafe just up the stairs. Mentioned it to Sue and we took a look. Cute little place. Busy on an overcast Saturday morning. We saw that they offered a Welsh breakfast and we were sold. The breakfast consisted of good toast and Welsh butter, sausage and bacon (you read that correctly), mushrooms, tomatoes and sunny side up eggs. It hit the spot after a long flight from the states. A good way to start a trip.

Yummm. I'm still craving the food I had here, and it's been about 2 weeks…read more.. I ordered a baked potato and chose to have mushrooms and cheese on it. My boyfriend ordered the brie and cranberry panini which I was also tempted by. Let me start by saying this- I love baked potatoes. I know what a good potato is, and all I can say is that The Press Room Cafe has amazing baked potatoes. At least the mushroom one is. It's served with a pile of cheese that melts quickly, and a stack of seasoned mushrooms that leave a nice sauce for you to dip the potato skin in. My favorite part was definitely the latter. It's also served with a decent salad- I enjoyed the dressing. I could only steal a few bites of the brie and cranberry panini, but it was as good as I expected. It's difficult to explain how the flavors compliment each other so nicely, but they do!

As the previous reviewer mentioned, decor and bathrooms are well done. Prices were reasonable as…read morewas the food. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. Service was lacking a bit too. Not recommended for a quick sit down bite to eat. I had the chicken tikka wrap which seemed to have a bit much sauce but was decent enough overall. My wife had the deep fried Brie along with tea n scone. The scone was a bit dry but underneath the clotted cream n jam it was fine. She wasn't a fan of the Brie as it was served and ended up excavating it from the breaded stuff to eat it solo. Overall not a place to single out for a visit except for the variety of clocks. If you find yourself walking by and have a moment or two feel free to sample other parts of the menu and decide for yourself... That's what I did and I don't feel as if my time was entirely wasted.

Our food was all very dry -- chicken on the salad devoid of moisture (nothing quite like dry and chewy chicken), bread from the toasted ciabatta like board stock, and even the scone sucked the moisture right out of your mouth despite even a heavy coating of cream and jam. I'm not even sure "very dry" covers it -- "desiccated" might actually not even be going too far for the items mentioned. The staff wasn't any better. Our first waitress clearly had little idea about what was on the menu, while the one who brought our first round of food flatly stated they didn't have any malt vinegar available for the fish fingers. Fortunately we asked again of the man who brought our second round of food, and he pointed out that they not only have malt vinegar, they keep the bottles on the table (we'd missed it for being tucked behind the drinks list). Food not worth returning for, and waitresses that didn't seem to know the restaurant; there were other menu choices I initially thought I might want to have a chance to try at some point, but in the end I won't be back.
