I've recently visited the Castle View for the first time since it changed from being Maggie…read moreMurphy's (many years ago). Before going I checked out the menu on their website and was a bit surprised by the prices, which are quite expensive for what at the end of the day is a pub in North Wales. I'd more or less decided in advance to go for the Welsh steak & ale pie which at £12.95 was just about a fiver more expensive than the steak & ale pie on offer at my more familiar haunt, the Afon Conwy which is just a few miles away. I was hoping for a very special pie! First things first the pub has a large car park so parking was no problem. The interior is very nicely done albeit in a fairly predictable gastropub decor. The dining area lives up to the venue's name with several tables along the side of the building offering views of Conwy Castle just over the water. The staff were friendly and efficient although there weren't many other customers to keep them occupied so they weren't anywhere close to being kept busy. Foodwise I went with the steak and ale pie which was fortunately very good and very well presented. My wife had a Caesar salad which was also excellent. The kids opted for chicken goujons and fish and chips from the kids menu, which at £7.25 each were two of the priciest kids meals we've encountered in this part of the world. Again though they were excellent, the goujon meal came with the two biggest goujons I've ever seen and the fish was a generous portion. The best compliment I give though is that both plates were cleared, something that doesn't always happen with my kids. As always there had to be someone who ordered something I ended up wishing I'd ordered and in this case it was father-in-law whose beer battered cod turned out to be a huge piece of fish which looked to be have been perfectly cooked. As this is one of the cheapest meals on the main menu I think if I ever go back that might be the one to try. All in all the food, and accompanying drinks, were all excellent and every plate was cleared. It's just a shame it's so expensive in comparison to other places in the area. It was noticeable that the place was very quiet when we visited, in fact it was almost deserted apart from the staff. It's a real shame given the quality on offer and I was left wondering if maybe they'd get more business if they knocked a quid or two off the prices? Certainly I'd more inclined to revisit if this were the case.

However it does lack some of the old atmosphere. The Food here is excellent, a good choice of traditional pub grub and more elaborate dishes. The prices are good value and the portions are big. The Sweets are delicious, you must make room for one!! It has a nice seating are outside with stunning views over to Conwy castle, hence the name!

Finally catching up on my reviews from a trip Sue and I took to Wales in July…read more One of our first stops after landing in Manchester was in Conwy. We stopped here as this is the town where Sue's mom was born. After wandering around on a Saturday morning we sought out a place that we might find a proper Welsh breakfast. We came upon the store part on the bottom floor and while inside I noticed a sign for a cafe just up the stairs. Mentioned it to Sue and we took a look. Cute little place. Busy on an overcast Saturday morning. We saw that they offered a Welsh breakfast and we were sold. The breakfast consisted of good toast and Welsh butter, sausage and bacon (you read that correctly), mushrooms, tomatoes and sunny side up eggs. It hit the spot after a long flight from the states. A good way to start a trip.

Yummm. I'm still craving the food I had here, and it's been about 2 weeks…read more.. I ordered a baked potato and chose to have mushrooms and cheese on it. My boyfriend ordered the brie and cranberry panini which I was also tempted by. Let me start by saying this- I love baked potatoes. I know what a good potato is, and all I can say is that The Press Room Cafe has amazing baked potatoes. At least the mushroom one is. It's served with a pile of cheese that melts quickly, and a stack of seasoned mushrooms that leave a nice sauce for you to dip the potato skin in. My favorite part was definitely the latter. It's also served with a decent salad- I enjoyed the dressing. I could only steal a few bites of the brie and cranberry panini, but it was as good as I expected. It's difficult to explain how the flavors compliment each other so nicely, but they do!

Excellent food in an unassuming restaurant. Located on the somewhat tacky high street of Llandudno,…read morethis place presents quite well from the street. Small storefront that is tastefully painted and has a classy signboard hanging above the door. Small inside with just 8 tables. 3 more picnic style tables out on the front patio, covered by the overhang. Inside, Looks like a nice cafe rather than a swanky restaurant. We met several servers and the manager. All were sincere, cheerful, helpful, knowledgeable and happy to serve. Wife and I had 3 course dinners. Menu selection has some unique items. Tonight I tried the venison pâté dressed with a sparkling fresh salad, chutney and served with toast triangles. It was superb. I've eaten 100's of pate's in France, this Welsh one was at the top of the list. Don't know what got into my wife, as she did not order one of the more creative dishes as I would usually expect. She ordered the fish and chips. And she loved every morsel. Light batter, creamy fresh haddock, not oily at all. Arrived to table steamy hot. Potatoes were succulent, also not oily. Chef has a restrained hand with salt, true flavors shine. My pasta with a large hunk of salmon on top was also satisfying. The pasta had a light slightly creamy tomato sauce, which I usually abhor, yet this one tasted perfect with the grilled salmon fillet. Portion sizes are generous. I can eat gargantuan meals, though this one did not rate as that, there is plenty of food on the plate to satisfy a hungry man. Dessert: We shared the rhubarb trifle. Piquant and creamy almost beyond belief. A perfect finish. Drinks: one 50cl of whisky for me with a pint of Snowdonia beer, a glass of champagne for Bambie. All the items mentioned above billed up at £48. Well worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.
