I should have reviewed Controlled System last year when they installed our central heating system, but it skipped my mind till now (which is probably a good thing since we used the new system a lot over the winter). We had a 40 year old central heating system in our home with steel ducting throughout. The heater was very inefficient, and starting to die, so I began my search for an HVAC contractor to install a new unit. I had half a dozen contractors come out to bid the job, and most of them did a poor job of sizing the heating requirements for my home. Controlled Systems came out and sized up our heating requirements, and gave a very competitive bid. I had them replace all the ducting in my home, and install a new trane high efficiency heater in the attic. The whole job was done in a few days (to code, they pulled permits w/ the city, etc...). They were very clean and courteous. After the job was done, I had third party come out and test the tightness of our system (if there were leaks in the ducting I would be losing heat in the attic). The results showed the tightness of the system was high enough to pass new construction requirements. In my opinion, Controlled Systems is one of the best HVAC companies in the bay area. I'm going to be using for central A/C in a few months. read more

The guys are all great if you want to have lunch or something. Good with people. Good with pets. Unfortunately the previous reviewers' remarks are correct. 10. Responds to calls/texts--nope 9. Completes job in a timely manner--nope 8. Keeps customer up to date when not completing in a timely manner--nope 7. Schedules return dates and keeps them--nope 6. Contacts someone before showing up--nope 5. Installs correct filters--nope 4. Careful in cutting holes for ducts in my 1930 building--nope 3. Can identify the middle of a wall--nope 2. Installed correct heater and A./C for duplex (x2 systems$$$)--probably nope cause all the others are, but I won't know for a while 1. Would I recommend them? Hell Nope!!! read more

Original A/C was installed by Controlled Systems a few years ago. Their service was excellent, so I asked them to come out and inspect our duct work. The guys came out inspected all our duct work and replaced the old sections. The guys worked well together, were efficient and very clean. They answered all my questions and gave tips for things we could do take care of our system. read more

Tried to schedule an appointment from Controlled Systems to fix my broken AC unit, which probably needs to be replaced. I also wanted to add AC to the downstairs portion of my house (currently only upstairs). They said there was a $120 hr labor fee with a min. of one hour. Called on Monday, scheduled an appointment for Thursday between 9-10 AM where they said they would call before they showed up. 10:00 rolls around, no phone call. I call them, they say, someone screwed up b/c they normally only give 4 hour windows not one. They also say now that they are falling behind on work today and not sure when they can make it out. I say, fine, lets reschedule, but I want the 1st hour of labor free because I took half a day off work to wait for them and they stood me up for my appointment. They say they can't waive the fee, even though the scheduling error was their fault. There loss on a very expensive repair job. Would NOTrecommend them to anyone. Bad business if you can't own up to your own mistake and can't compensate your customers. read more

I purchased an AC unit from Home Depot 6 years ago. The installation was fine, but over the years I've called them two different times for a service call (two different issues) and did not receive a call back either time. Lousy customer service. read more

I called Controlled Systems to diagnose why my AC doe not work appropiately. They sent someone over to check the system. Their technician was pleasant and told me the problem was not the AC, but rather electrical wiring, which he was not licensed to fix. Then he charged me $120 for his time. I never have problem to pay, but I was not too happy that Controlled Systems did not share with me the minimum charge of $120 and the per hour $120 fee. I called back to share my thought that in the future, do please inform the customer first like all other companies I dealt with. The person on the phone kept arguing with me why they did not do anything wrong. For not only blindsight of their customers, and not admitting their mistake as well, they deserve the 1 star review. read more

was referred to them by my regular guy Brian Koski b/c he was swamped. and they called me first thing in the AM (I left a VM at night) and SAVED me a spot b/c I needed the heater fixed ASAP. courteous, fast, did a great job. came with booties and kept my house clean and put everything back where it belonged. GREAT service. would use them again and recommend them to others. Happy employees so the owner must treat them well owner is giving them thurs-sunday off for thanksgiving and handling all calls himself. so must be nice guy. read more

I called Controlled Systems for a furnance replacement and during the initial visit they seemed very professional and understanding of the job at hand. However I never received an estimate for the job and after 4 phone/calls and voicemails throughout a 2 month timeframe I never recieved a single call back. Now my furnace is not working and I'm stuck looking for a new vendor and getting estimates for the job. read more

Keep away from this company! They don't meet their commitments or stand by their work. They were OK on installing a new furnace, when I was referred to them by Home Depot, which has since dropped them -- for good reason, I think. Later they installed a humidifier, which was a total botch -- installed so that it cannot be maintained without a major removal operation. When I wanted to discuss this service issue with them, and they didn't want to because of potential price and warranty concerns, they simply didn't return my phone calls, no matter how many, until I gave up on them. Keep away, far, far away! read more

Our TRANE furnace was purchased from and installed by this company four years ago. It stopped working recently, and after several visits, Controlled Systems replaced the malfunctioning board and the starter and now the furnace works fine! At first I wasn't pleased with being charged for two visits, but the company was agreeable when I disputed this, and I was charged a very reasonable fee for one visit. I'm very satisfied by the work that was done. read more

Great interaction and experience with these guys. Would definitely recommend and would use again.

What I like about Controlled Sytems, is that the owner is very honest, and upfront. He never tries to sell you anything you don't need, and will offer you honest advice when you ask!! In this day an age its hard to get honesty from anyone, so it s great to know that there are still companies like this one who will be hones with you!! Also, I think that sites like yelp should post all reviews, and should not filter any off them. For this company there are (6) GREAT REVIEWS that are filtered which isnt right in my option!!! We used this contractor to install our new heater/air conditioner in the addition portion of our house. They gave us the run around on scheduling, but eventually completed the work for the addition. During this process, they charged my credit card without asking for the entire balance (prior to completion). I asked them to reverse it since I was planning to pay a different way, which they did, but it should have never occured. They also promised to install a new thermostat in a separate cottage, but never completed the work even though they promised to follow up. In addition, getting them back to rectify problems was near to impossible. I emailed them four times and called numerous times before I just gave up and hired someone else to fix a crack in our old heater pump. Generally, they are terrible with scheduling, difficult to contact, do not complete work to rectify small fixable issues, and shifty in their billing practices. If they weren't recommended by my contractor, I wouldn't have used them, but I was in a bit fo a time crunch so I had no choice. I would not recommend them in future nor would I consider using them. read more

Controlled Systems seems very professional, however their after service care has been very poor.

Controlled Systems was booked solid like so many other companies I called this past week. However the person I spoke with in the office put me on standby and as soon as there was an opening called me back and told me that a service technician would be out to my house to take care of me, and being that my furnace and AC weren't working I greatly appreciated the extra effort they put in to take care of me as a customer. Therefore I highly recommend them!!! read more

I had controlled systems install a new furnace, a/c, filtration system during a remodel a few years back. Since then, I have called them out to do maintenance on my system a few times. Scheduling was always difficult with them due to my availability and their flexibility (very little). This last episode threw me over the fence...I had to reschedule twice due to MY availability with work meetings. Each time, I called well in advance, apologized for having to reschedule, and used diligence in setting up a new date. So they were suppose to come out this Friday (10/14) between 8 and 10am. At 9:15 I called to get an updated ETA...and was told that they are not working today, the owner is out of the office until 10/24, and my appointment had been erased as of yesterday. ALL OF THIS WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME. Of course, I took the day off of work, rescheduled all my meetings, yada yada yada.... What audacity to do this to a customer - just cancel their appointment without any notification. That is unacceptable to me and should be to every one else. There is no excuse. read more

i have a trane furnace installed by previous owner, and it has a sticker saying controlled system installed it. this winter, when i tried to turn on the furnace, fan was working fine, but there's no warm air coming out. i tried call the 650 number multiple times, left 5 messages, 3 of them were marked as emergent, and i even talked to a real person about my issue, but after three days, still not even a phone call. and the temperature in my house is below 55 now. shitty service. read more

I used this company to install an A/C heating unit, and I was very pleased with their work. They were reliable, friendly and trustworthy. Run! Don't even bother to engage with this business. I have tried several times to get the company to honor their work installing a complete system in 2006 for my aged mother. According to another service provider, the heat exchanger is rusting because the system was installed incorrectly by Controlled Systems. The install lacked proper drainage and was not level so over time water has pooled into the main heat exchanger rather than out through a pipe. They won't even come out to review this assessment by another company. First I was told their install was set up through a Home Depot program they are no longer affiliated with-which is wasn't. They had told me to go to Home Depot for help despite the fact that my mother never contracted with Home Depot and in fact used Controlled Systems from a good referral from a family member. Then I was told they are no longer a Trane dealer and will have no pull with Trane in getting this piece covered by warranty. Overall I have made several phone calls unanswered, sent several emails, never answered. All I asked was to verify this assessment of their improper install in order to determine if it was their install or a defective Trane part. They refused to help. The absolute unprofessionalism of this organization explains why they are no longer affiliated with either Home Depot or Trane programs. I'm surprised they maintain a business license. FYI I have significant experience in full home remodeling and dealing with professional contractors of various systems- HVAC, Electical, Plumbing, Carpentry and have NEVER experienced such a group of hacks. read more

We bought a home in Santa Clara and needed to replace the 1975 furnace and also add AC. After speaking with Controlled Systems I felt very confident that this small family business was the right team for the job. Their quote was reasonable, easy to understand, and had a clear price indicated. They were very thorough in answering questions and I never felt rushed or pressured into a sale. They were also very flexible and quick with scheduling the installation (about a week). Also, we were looking to finance the job and they have a partnership with the Home Depot. The transaction was VERY simple. We had the entire duct system replaced, new registers added, new thermostat wired and the furnace installed in ONE DAY! The next day it took another FOUR HOURS to install the AC which included electrical, piping, and situating the condenser. Their efficiency was simply amazing, and the workers were all very courteous and clean. My only slight quibble was that they didn't communicate with email or have a website - very old school, but also very old school service!!! So far the Trane furnace has worked wonderfully and every inch of the house is nicely heated. If you can, upgrade from the standard thermostat, which is very confusing to program and hard to read. Controlled Systems is highly recommended. read more

Owner Mike Leitchman came out and gave us a quote for adding A/C and replacing a 20 year old furnace. Price was competitive so we proceeded. Work was done in two days as promised, workmanship looked professional. Everything was cleaned up nicely and work passed inspection by the city building inspector. The A/C works fine, (hasn't been cold enough to test the furnace). Couldn't be happier with the work! read more

Our radiant heating was no longer reliable so we decided to install forced air heating. Controlled Systems was recommended to us. We are so pleased with the work they did and our wonderful heat! There was great attention to detail, all the registers are straight and they cleaned up each day. The installers were all polite, knowledgeable and pleasant to have around. They answered all my questions and kept me up to date with their progress. Great job. read more

We would recommend Controlled Systems to anyone looking for an HVAC company. Mike, who gave us a quote, was great to work with. He answered all our questions, and made us feel comfortable with our decision. We installed a new Heating System, and added Air Conditioning, and we could not be happier! The installation went really well, and the crew that did the work was great! read more

This past summer I replaced my 30 year old HVAC system with a Trane. unit. Through a recommendation from a friend, I chose Controlled Systems of Mountain View to do the work. I was very pleased with their installation. I especially liked the way they dressed the plumbing and electrical - it was neat, clean and professional. At the time of the bid I asked them to reposition the thermostat to an upstairs location, rather they suggested installing a wireless, remote-control thermostat from Honeywell - not only did this device save me money but it also allowed me to place the thermostat anywhere in my house. Through the summer the unit put out remarkably cool air, and now that the nights have turned cold I have started using the heat. In a nut shell, I would recommend Controlled Systems and Trane. read more

We would like to give a review for this company, but will choose to just give our rating instead, since we do not feel that Yelp is honest in how it represents reviews given by customers. We have noticed that there are many positive reviews in the filter area for this company, and wonder why Yelp would put them there, if customers have gone to all the trouble of writing a review. Many new, and positive reviews for this company are in the filtered files. Therefore, we are not sure if Yelp can be trusted, or if there is any advantage of writing a review, if Yelp will just filter it based on whatever criteria it uses, which we believe has something to do with money. read more

I used Controlled Systems to install an AC and new ducts in 1/2009. At the time they were very nice and helpful. They told me that the whole system is under warranty for two years and that if I needed the flow of the ducts to be adjusted they would come out anytime. I called 10/2010 to have my duct flows adjust since I was having twins. They scheduled an appointment and then called to cancel. They rescheduled and then didn't show up. I called them several times up through mid 11/2010 ( the delivery of my twins) without a response. After that I just got an electric heater for the babies room and became really busy. It wasn't until recently (babies are four months and I have a little more time) that I looked back at the invoice and realized, my warranty expired in 1/2011. It seems like a deliberate attempt at not honoring their warranty. Don't let the niceness when they first meet you fool you. read more
