We had a guy from Controlled Air come out and do a diagnostic on air condition that wasn't working anymore. He was very kind and thorough about talking me through what he was finding as he took the unit apart. After that, we went into my house and he gave me a rundown on what I could do to increase my AC capacity and how I could better control the air flow in my home since it is a unique split level. The service fee for him to come out was $99 which is about average in the metro area for a technician to come out. If you know of a place that does it for cheaper, message me! I think for him to come out and do a diagnostic and then give me some tips for the next 15 - 20 minutes was worth my investment. Now I know what I have to do (replace my AC unit) and I know a little bit more of what I should be shopping around for. The guy who came out was very friendly and helpful however the $99 "trip and diagnostic charge" seemed a little high and $295 on top of that to replace the capacitor is very high. Everything I can find says something like that should be under $200 total when I paid almost $400. The receipt doesn't separate out parts and labor so there's no way to tell how much the part costs but most dual run capacitors I can find online are under $30 and it took him about 10 minutes to install. The receipt I got has different levels and prices, the lowest level is $199, so add in the trip charge and no matter what needs fixing you will pay at least $298. read more

My furnace was replaced on 4/2/2018 the crew was friendly and everything was running smoothly. When the job was done they informed me they broke my door and would fix it. They came back later in the spring when the snow was gone to start up my Air conditioner, friendly again but still haven't fixed my broken door. This time they took the piece that was broken. I have called two times about getting information about when my door is going to be fixed and the receptionist has told me it is an old door so not sure when they'll be able to fix it. I'm very frustrated that my door is broken and no one from this company is doing anything to fix it or replace it. It is a safety hazard to have the door off and it isn't staying closed. read more

They repaired my AC on Wednesday, saying it was only a minor wiring issue. But by Sunday, I was having the exact same problem. They not only charged me for a second service call, but charged me an extra $100 for calling on a Sunday. I brought up that since I was having the exact same problem, they must have overlooked something when they had been out here 4 days earlier. They refused to concede this and insisted this MUST be an unrelated problem that had just popped up in the past 3 days. When I repeatedly explained that no, it was the exact same issue they'd charged me for a diagnostics check earlier that week, they finally said they'd see if they could do anything about the bill and get back to me. Needless to say, I never heard from them again. All told, I ended up paying $800 for "minor wiring" and a capacitator replacement. After researching online, I'd guess I overpaid by around $500. read more

I recently went out and collected a number of quotes to replace my existing furnace and AC system this spring. Controlled Air seemed to pretty good so I was leaning toward them. Just last week my furnace failed to start and threw out an error code. I called Controlled Air for service. They responded quickly. The guy identified the flame sensor as the problem and replaced it. They charged me $99.00 for the service call which was fine. They also charged me $199.00 for replacing the flame sensor. FYI, the flame sensor is around $30.00 and requires a screwdriver and five minutes to replace. They basically charge a flat rate for replacing components that starts at $199.00. That's just flat out overcharging the customer, Good luck with that Controlled Air! I will use another vendor in the future and recommend people find a company that charges based on repair time and parts. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! DO NOT CALL THEM!!! Was given their information and told they could call me for diagnostic of my unit. The technician came out and told me the unit was old and told it wasn't even worth looking at. Took my $99 and was in my home for less than 5 minutes and did absolutely nothing. At this point I was still considering buying a unit from them but wanted to keep my options open and found someone who would fix the unit for a much more reasonable price so I called in and asked for the part number, they refused to give it to me. I paid you $99 for the 5 minute diagnostic, this does not mean I am required to use your company to fix my unit if you don't offer competitive prices. I called Tim Lockler on a Saturday at 0930PM. He was at my house in 20mins. I had a sick Son and the heat was out. He was amazing at coming out when no one else could. Also he walked me thru everything and showed me what was wrong and what needed to be fixed. He was extremely kind and had integrity. Our pilot light on our fireplace kept going off and controlled air was recommended to us. My husband specifically asked them what the charge would be. She said $125 for coming out. He then asked what would be charged beyond that and she was pretty vague. Nothing was mentioned about flat rates. The technician showed up and cleaned and adjusted the pilot flame and checked the Milli volt. He was here maybe 20 minutes and we were charged another $199 as a flat rate for this. So for a 20 minute service call and no parts needed it was $324. We will look for more competitive pricing in the future. read more
