Their designer came to my house and showed us what we would get although he didn't offer much in the way of options, more of a "this is what you'll get" kind of presentation. Luckily most of what he showed us was in line with our tastes. We decided on what we wanted and signed up then and there. He left saying another guy would come and take all the measurements in a few days. In the meantime I went on the internet to try and research US Remodelers (after I made a deal, but within the cancellation timeframe). I found pages and pages of horrible reviews and warnings. However no reviews of this actual shop. You need to remember that Home Depot has US Remodelers all over the country and they have their own people running them. But I will admit this had me really nervous. I called their office after a week or two to check on the order since they said the material would take a few weeks to come in to their shop. It had arrived the day I called and I scheduled the work. They said it could take 3 or 4 days to do the work and that they would stay every day until the job was done. The carpenter showed up exactly when he was scheduled and was by himself. He seemed very confident and set up shop in my back yard. He was very respectful and protected the whole work area very well, covering all surfaces with cardboard and setting up a plastic sheet to close off the kitchen to the rest of the house. Starting around 9am, he stayed the first day until 6pm. He finished the next day starting around 7am and finishing by 3pm. He beat the schedule by almost 2 days and I honestly have no complaints about his work. Overall I was very happy with how everything worked out. I have read all the horror stories and none of what I found applied to these guys in Rockaway.

I hired Sea Beast Design & Construction (Sebastian Barbagallo) as General Contractor for a…read moreresidential project in Fair Lawn, NJ under a written contract in March 2026.. I paid Sea Beast $68,190 against the contract and separately paid $17,176 directly for materials I had no contractual obligation to pay -- $85,366 total -- yet MULTIPLE major scope items remained incomplete or not meaningfully progressed with only weeks left on the schedule. These included the porticos, exterior brick samples, simple framing and finish details, unable to install simple door hardware, the HVAC condenser pad (the condenser itself was paid for but not on site), step repointing and masonry, main electrical service, exterior hardware, interior doors (despite a $3,000 advance for them), and the kitchen, which was never properly coordinated, ordered or released. Sea Beast also failed to provide the conditional lien waivers, a simple bill that wasn't a demand for money that needs to be today which was required with each progress payment, and continued to demand additional payment while materially overbilled relative to work completed. I issued a formal Notice of Performance Issue on April 4, 2026 requiring a written cure plan, manpower and sequencing plan, procurement status, revised schedule, lien waivers, and payment reconciliation. Sea Beast acknowledged receipt but did not provide the required cure documentation. I issued a Notice of Default on April 8, 2026 under the contract's default provision, which required cure commencement within 36 hours. The required cure was not provided. I terminated the contract for default and am pursuing damages. I would not hire Sea Beast Design & Construction again and would not recommend them for residential general contracting work. I've filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.

Black structural columns are not something you see every day, so preparation, product selection, and attention to detail were critical to getting the look I wanted and ensuring the finish would hold up to the elements. Bob came out to provide the estimate. He was professional, easy to work with, and, most importantly, took the time to listen to what I was trying to achieve and the concerns I had about the project. He was also able to get the work scheduled within the same week. I worked closely with Ron, who I believe was the lead painter on the job. He was incredibly knowledgeable and detail-oriented. I supplied the INSL-X primer recommended for fiberglass columns and discussed paint options with him.
