My only "complaint" is the hours...I wish the range closed late in the day. The owners are present and engaging. Just had a very unpleasant experience at Continental Arms.  I went in to purchase a gift certificate for a friend.  The woman at the desk was busy so she asked the man by the gun display to call Terry (?) to come wait on me.  Well, "Terry" was totally nasty throughout the entire transaction.  When she asked me to write down the name of the recipient of the gift certificate, she basically threw a pad at me, and did not provide me with a pen.  There was never a "please" or "thank you" throughout the transaction.  And before I could even put my wallet back into my purse, said nasty woman shouted "next" to the individual behind me. Having worked retail for many years, I was appalled by the treatment I received.  If I had ever treated a customer this way, I would have been fired.  I can only assume the woman I dealt with was the owner of the Continental Arms.  No wonder Continental Arms only has a 3.7 rating on Google and a 3.3 rating on Yelp. In this day and age, when individual gun ownership is a highly charged subject, one would think an arms dealership would be more accommodating to the public at large. Last year I purchased a gift certificate from Continental Arms, and it was a smooth transaction.  This is why I decided to return toagain this year. Well, never again. read more

Purchased a 12 gauge rifle at the front counter specifically for my 15 year old son to shoot, sales person was well aware that it was for him and that the only place we planed to shoot it was at Continentals range. We brought it in a month later to shoot at the range and they would not allow him to shoot it due to insurance. I understand the insurance regulations but that's very poor integrity to sell me something for a 15 year old to shoot at your range but then say he can't after you took my Money. read more

Worst store to go to. Old lady with a Karen haircut was very rude and made everything inconvenient. Was going into the store to buy ammo was looking at the boxes and was checking to see if the ammo was damaged, the lady immediately snapped at us and told us that we couldn't open them up. We apologized and were nothing but nice, she continued to talk to other coworkers out loud about the situation purposely in demeaning manor. God forbid you check the ammo you are going to buy to see if it works. We ended up checking out the ammo we got, just to find out they have a store policy that says they don't sell to people under 21 (my cousin was 20). I (being 22) purchased the ammo and walked out, all the while she never checked my ID anyway. Didn't seem to care about their STORE POLICY. Wow! I'm not sure why folks have posted negative reviews... my recent experience here was nothing short of exceptional. I went this past Saturday around 12pm (it was a group of 4 of us)... none of us had previous indoor gun range experience (or really much shooting experience at all) and I'll admit I was a bit nervous walking in. But the entire staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome/comfortable... gave us a full walkthrough of everything - from safety guidelines to loading ammunition to firing on the range. The Range Officer even gave us tips for shooting / was a total pleasure. The entire group loved the experience and I'll definitely be coming back. Couldn't recommend highly enough. read more

My primary reason for posting a review is to address the reviews that might discourage someone from coming here - I brought my minor son here for my first visit recently (March 2019). I was bringing in my new 12 guage and we wanted to shoot some handguns. Start with that concept of a place where new customers stroll in with weapons- of course there are eyes on you!! A gentleman asked if I had my own shells so I showed him my box of target buckshot but it wasn't allowed there - but he was very matter of fact and respectful about it - We went back to the range and everyone who helped us was serious but very helpful and very friendly - we bought some range-qualified buckshot and I got to break in my new shotgun. I have very little experience with handguns so we asked the guy to get us started with a 9MM so he started us with a Sig226 and then we ran through a box with a Glock17. We had a blast!! Others at the range were groups of friends, a few couples, and notably, a couple in their late 70's I'd guess. All very friendly folk enjoying themselves. Bottom line - if you have never squeezed off a round but are interested in giving it a try, do not be discouraged by the reviews about rude staff- it is a serious atmosphere because there are GUNS involved - one other review said it right- its serious and safe which is exactly how it should be. Used the range today for the first time. When we arrived at the desk the staff was friendly and worked quickly to get our paperwork completed so we could get to shooting. Once on the range, found it to be equivalent to similar ranges I've been to in my home state of Washington. Range officer was present letting you know they are watching to keep their range safe, which in turn keeps me safe. When I finished and exited the range, the range officer was friendly, thanked us for sweeping up our brass, and he answered a few questions I had about classes or private lessons. Reminder - please sweep up the brass from your stall before leaving the range. Not only is it expected, it is common courtesy to the next person using your stall. I was looking for local gun shops near me online and this place came up. I used to work in this area and never knew it was over there. It's bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside, I was visiting it as a spot to purchase and didn't realize it was a an actual range as well. The shop area is well organized and due to the current national shortage, handguns were pretty much non-existent for purchase. Sandy, one of the Managers, was very nice and she had actually spoken to me via phone several times before I ever even came into the shop. She explained that these were unprecedented times so she couldn't really give me a definitive time frame as to when their shipment of handguns would be coming in, she suggested I continue to call every few days. I did do this but still was not able to score there even after several months. This is no reflection on the staff, they were nice enough, just the demand on the industry was and continues to be overwhelming. I will come back here and try out their range in the future once I have been able to secure a handgun. They did have rifles in abundance when I was there in June so if you are looking for a rifle to purchase come check them out. read more

Fantastic Knowledge About Firearms, They will not try to up sell you . If you haven't shot a shotgun before. They will try to put you in a pump action. Safety is their primary concern. If you come in underage, drunk or high you will not be allowed to shoot or buy a gun there. You will also not to be allow to shoot high powered ammo. As for the customer service, this a gun store they sell firearms. They are not a dress boutique. These guys and gals know their business. If you are talking to some who is not sure they will tell you to talk to someone else. Gun business is the most serious business. Would give zero stars if possible. My brother and I drove half an hour out to the range to do some shooting/shopping. Store was locked with no notification or explanation, nothing on the website, not even a note of the door. So we decide to wait a bit and see if anyone shows up. Eventually an employee shows up and unlocks the door. We go to the door and ask how long it would take before the shop would be open and the man gives us an attitude, answering that "it'll take as long as it takes". That's unacceptable, unprofessional and not the way any business should be run. Any question is met with an incredulous response. They act as if they are doing you a favor by providing you with customer service. Emo Phillips is alive and well and working at the Continental Arm's gun range. Looks good for his age, but he now carries a 1911 pistol with the hammer cocked and ready for anyone who heckles him. Seriously, management needs to can this kid. Absolutely terrible attitude and just unhelpful. The woman he works with was very nice and pleasant, an observation noted by another reviewer. The rest of the place is fairly decent. The retail portion has a terrific selection of pistols, rifles and shotguns, and it's well-lit and nicely organized. The range is decent. There is a range officer overseeing the area, something I had never seen before. He's fairly helpful but needs to realize that in the fifty or so times I had been there over the years, no one had ever really enforced the uncasing and casing protocol since I had seen many customers doing it incorrectly. Around 2003 I went there to shoot pistols. Not being from Maryland, I did not know all of Maryland's quirky laws. In my range bag, I had a loaded magazine. The guy behind the counter went crazy. He yelled at me and threatened to call the police and have me arrested. This is the last place I would go. Maryland laws are difficult, and the last thing I need is a jerk who wants to have me arrested at a range because I don't understand all the goofy nuances of Maryland laws. Note: I have a CCW in three different states. Avoid this range. Update: 10/11/13: I met a person who knows several Baltimore County Police Officers. He said these guys frequently call the police on customers for infractions of Maryland's difficult laws. I think the only thing that saved me was there was a police officer working there who was a friend of a police officer friend of mine. These are not good people! STAFF- I agree with everyone, the staff here is a bit stern/borderline rude. Also, if you bring a shotgun or fully auto, one of the staff members will stalk you and spy on you during the entire range time, which is understandable, just a little bit uneasy. Its different after they have seen you shoot and display proper gun handling technique. But until they know you, they can be pretty rude and off putting to newbs, which doesn't really bode well for the novice shooter. I think they really do themselves a disservice in this regard and they are losing a LOT of money via repeat customers because of it. But hey, its a private business, I guess they can do what they want. Oh yeah, the guy with the long hair is just an a**hole. RANGE- lighting is poor, and while ventilation is great, it recycles outside air. That makes this a VERY uncomfortable range during the winter months. 15 degrees outside means 15 degrees in the range, which means frozen fingers. Also, they don't allow large caliber firarms, so my 460 and S&W 500 must stay home when I go to this range. Also, they don't allow head shots on targets and shotguns can only shoot OO or OOO buck, no slugs! SELECTION- rental selection is decent and prices are ok for purchases. In the end, they get three stars from me because they allow shotgun and fully auto on the range and I can bring in my own ammunition (unlike that joke of a range Gilbert) read more

Went there for a bday party on a thursday which is ladies night so it was super cheap. The staff played no games about the bank ground check luckily I'm not a terrorist. But omg the knowledge they offered on all of the guns. They did not push the 22 on us ladies in fact they wanted us to try everything. Safety was also stringent which is always a plus. I was given a heat set and lovely protection eyewear. Although not Chanel they were hot to death. I'm going back hope to see you there. read more

Definitely one of the better ranges in the area, the ventilation is strong and the lanes are well lit. The end lanes could stand to have some sound deadening material on the adjacent walls, but the lanes are roomy and you are permitted to keep your range bag, extra gear, etc up against the back wall. Some of the other ranges I have been too make you keep your extra gear next to your feet which in my opinion poses a safety risk. The staff there, as the other reviewer mentioned can be a bit terse which at times comes across as being rude. If you are a novice shooter, you are better off going with someone who has more experience the first few times you go. The staff there don't seem to be interested in catering to the beginning shooter, that is the only reason why I did not give this establishment 5 stars. read more

I like Continental, for the most part. Their range is fairly clean, it's maintained, and the ventilation is some of the best in the area. The shop carries a good selection of both guns and ammo, at reasonable prices. Staff are helpful, but as mentioned by other reviewers, until you get to know them they can come off as stern. And honestly, in a business where people are in your shop handling deadly weapons, I don't blame them. If you're a newb, tell them up front and pay attention to even the tiniest safety rules, and you'll begin to gain their trust. Come in and act a bad-ass, and yes, you're gonna get an attitude right back. Experienced shooters - if you're new to the range, just show them that you know safety protocol: tell 'em what you're bringing to shoot, clear your weapons safely at the counter, and show your ammo. You're asking them to trust that you're not a danger to themselves and their other customers, after all. Demonstrate that, and they'll provide you with a very professional range experience. The only thing I wish is that their range lighting was a little better. They do provide good scrubby soap in the washroom to get powder and lead residue off your hands, however, and that's always appreciated. read more

I am really appalled by the way i have been treated by the employee sandy. I called to see if they offered a service I needed on my firearm. She was rude, demeaning and very unfriendly. She told me we are not "gun smiths". Keep in mind I am just calling to ask if they provide the service. She told me no. Come to find out they do after she got off her lazy butt to ask someone. How would you not know this in the first place. Then I proceed to bring my firearm by to drop it off. Mind you I was told it Would take a couple of days to perform the service. When I arrive two employees told me immediately " the guy who does the work will not be out front for a long time like I am supposed to leave. I said I am here to drop the gun off. They still tried to get me to leave by Saying well it will be a long wait. Then out comes sandy. And again this lady was rude!!! Well we don't do that hear! After I have already been told I can. Finally they decided well we will take it. I have spent thousands of dollars in this place. I will NEVER be back accept to pick my gun up. The customer service here is none existent! The people working are rude and treat you like your a dumb ass and seem to me like they do not want you In the building. I have never been treated this badly by a place. They are way over Priced and treat customers like we are supposed to please them. Sandy needs to be fired the way she talks to people. read more

I went to Continental for the first time this past Saturday to both browse and use the range. When I walked in I spoke to the range staff and they were pleasant and informative about wait times/prices/etc. At that point my friend hadn't showed up yet so I went and browsed the shop a bit while I waited for him. The guys behind the counter let me browse a bit and once I seemed to narrow in on a few pistols they offered to take them out and show me them. I informed them I was really just browsing to which they said "If you change your mind let us know." My friend eventually came, so we spent a bit on the range, the ammo prices are slightly marked up from the normal prices, but overall they aren't incredibly expensive. The range was well maintained and they had glasses and hearing protection available at no cost if you don't have your own. We browsed a bit more after the range and the staff were much more talkative to us at that point. I agree with some other reviewers who mentioned them being cold, however it was a polite "Coldness" towards us. Once I mentioned my own collection and demonstrated on the range, they were much more talkative. I think it's more of an industry thing based on the kind of business they deal in and how careless people often are around a range and not realizing they might have a round chambered when handing back a weapon. This place is great. The folks are very helpful. If you are a novice, go surf the internet first and research the gun/s you are interested in. This is a business not a gun school. I went to Continental and as soon as I walked in I got greeted and I told them exactly what I was there for and what I was interested in. The owners were wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable. I have bought a two guns from them already and am planning to buy more soon. They have a wonderful selection of accessories and guns for sale. Rifles and pistols selections are good. As for the range, I would like to be more strict about how people conduct themselves as we are dealing with live and real firearms. I went to the range and I cannot tell who Is in charge. Don't bring your friends here who have never shot a firearm before as they may be the ones who would harm you. Firearms are to be taken seriously and handled by people who have some kind of training or experience. These are not toys. If a person has never handled a firearm before, they should be in the same stall with someone who has so they don't hurt themselves and others. This place is one of the best ranges in the Maryland area. As Rob N said when it's your first time there the staff can be a little stern but that's until they get to know who you are, they all are very friendly and knowledgeable. They also make it a very friendly environment for women as well, they actually have several women working there which is great. My wife had a bad experience at another range the day after our wedding, making her never want to shoot again. But when she went to this place for the first time she said she felt super comfortable, though she did not shoot that day she is considering it, not only because of the females that were both shooting and working there, but because she found out one of her LONG time family friends(a women) that worked with her father in another business when she was growing up, now works in this establishment which made her really comfortable. I would defiantly suggest this range to ANYONE (man/women). I immediately purchased a membership, for this will be the place for me. read more

The one-star review that was posted a few days ago does not reflect what I have experienced at Continental over more than a decade of shooting and buying there. Some of the staff people are less outgoing than others, especially if the place is as busy as the gun shop portion of the business has been lately. But over the years, the only time I have seen anyone dealt with harshly is when the visitor took an "attitude" towards the staff. These folks DO take their work seriously, and if you happen to get called-out for some unsafe range behavior, or careless handling of a firearm in the showroom or classroom, you have no one but yourself to blame. That having been said, the overhead baffles at the range are in horrible shape (thus four stars rather than five), but that's the result of a lot of careless shooting. By comparison, On Target is one of the most poorly lit ranges I've visited, and has some peculiar requirements for preparing a target to use. Good selection--actually quite nice of a selection. One of the better stocked stores I've seen in terms of variety--rifles, handguns, cases, reloading equipment, suppressors, optics. Good deal in terms of that. However aside from the owner, who is awesome to deal with--the customer service stinks. I've read a few of the reviews here, they sound like they were written by the gun store employees. "Noobs need to earn respect" and "prove their knowledge for respect" is a common theme I've read. I disagree 1000%. How about you treat your customers with respect when they walk through the door? I wonder how many sales you've lost due to poor service. I've noticed a trend these past few years where customer service in gunstores has improved exponentially. Except this place. Stay away from the short haired girl who talks like she has something in her mouth--as noted by another reviewer, she is rude and ignorant. She always acts as if she if doing you, the customer, a favor. If you question anything that she made have done incorrectly, she will get loud and ignorant. Aside from her incompetent sales skills, the others are mediocre--in knowledge and friendliness. Overall the place is ok because the owner is friendly, knowledgable and helpful.
