Finding someone you feel comfortable trusting with your home can be difficult, especially when it comes to electrical work, so I truly appreciated his professionalism and the care he put into the job. One of the things I appreciated most was Ken's willingness to explain the work and answer my questions. Electrical issues aren't always easy for a homeowner to understand, and it makes a big difference when someone takes the time to walk you through what needs to be done. I felt comfortable asking questions and appreciated having a better understanding of the work being performed. Ken showed great attention to detail throughout the job. He took pride in his work and treated my home with respect. It was reassuring to see that he cared about the quality of the finished work and wanted everything done properly. As a homeowner, that kind of care goes a long way toward making you feel confident in the person you've hired. Beyond the work itself, Ken was courteous, approachable, and easy to communicate with. Having someone working in your home can sometimes be stressful, but he made the experience a positive one. I appreciated the effort he put into the job and the way he handled himself from start to finish. Overall, I am very happy with the electrical work Ken completed and grateful for his help. I would gladly have him back for future electrical projects and recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, professional electrician who takes pride in his work. Thank you, Ken, for taking such good care of my home!

He went through a couple of quick fixes on the phone which could save us some money. I told him we've done that already and we need an electrician to diagnose and fix the problem. He said it'll cost $335 to show up and if he is here over 2hrs, it will be an extra $169/hr. I said okay. Since he is highly rated, I didn't bother calling other electricians for more quotes. I normally get at least 3 then compare. Then he said his appts are 3wks away but has a cancellation for Saturday (today) at 11am. So I said sure and gave him our address and told him to call us when he's here cuz we have to buzz him in the security gate. He said our address is 5mins from his house so no problem. Long story short. He never showed up, no call -nothing! Wasted our time waiting. It is our rental property so I had to drive in before the appt, waited an hour after the appt then left. He may not have wanted to take the job cuz I got the sense that he wasn't enthused and quoted us his price for showing up. Or... he may have forgotten about the appt. Either way, he is the owner and there is no excuse for poor business practice. And for wasting my time I gave him one star since I can't give zero.

PG&E had a neighborhood power shutdown and when I came home, everything was working in my house and detached garage except several outlets in my garage, including the one powering my garage door opener. I called Ideal Electric late on a Friday afternoon, Esed answered and took me step by step through a checklist. Turned out, as I should have know, that the GFI breaker on one of the outlets tripped and that outlet was connected to the others. Esed gave me the info without charging me to visit the house. I'm sorry it's taken me this long (3.5 years) to get around to reviewing Intrinsic here on Yelp. On…read morethe other hand, I can tell you that we have not had one problem with any of the rewiring or new fixture installations that David and his crew did for us, at the end of January 2014. Which is also a useful kind of feedback to get, with something as crucial and safety-related as electricity. When we called Intrinsic, w were desperate to have our whole house (built 1942) rewired up to code in a big hurry. I had changed home insurance co's. I'd been solicited & then suckered by Hartford, a company that works with AARP to offer its members "better rates". Although I gave Hartford the info that we had "original" wiring from 1942 in a total of 3 different ways at the time they wrote the policy, and they took our money - a month later, Hartford cancelled the policy, for NOT having modern wiring! So, we were potentially in trouble, because Hartford also went out of their way to inform our mortgage company that our house was now "uninsured". We quickly found an insurance company that was willing to insure us right away, but with a one-month "good faith grace period" in which to get the entire "up to code" job done. MIraculously, we found David, and he came through for us with flying colors. He gave us an estimate that was very reasonable, was able to start the job within a week, and in another 2 weeks, the entire job was complete, and passed city inspection easily. Along the way, he put in several new fixtures that we had always needed in very dark spots, discovered that a bathroom fan-vent was wrongly installed and replaced all the parts, dealt with the complication of all our outer walls already having insulation in them, and he and both his crew members even went out of their way to reassure and make friends with my nervous, barky young dog. David knows everything about electricity, and is totally up to speed on "code". He helped us choose appropriate fixtures, advised us about various options, and was on hand some part of every day to make sure all was moving along as planned. We were always informed in advance, of which part of the house was going to be the work site, so that we were always prepared and nothing inconvenient ever sprung on us. David is a perfectionist, and did not consider the job complete until every last switch and light bulb was working just right. So, well within the 30 day grace period, we were able to provide the necessary documentation to our new insurance agent, so that the new insuring company could get confirmation that all was complete. The final cost of the job was somewhat higher than the estimate, which did complicate our financial lives for a while. But considering the quality of the work that was done, and the lighting improvements made along the way which have greatly increased our enjoyment of the house, I would say that $15K, given the various structural complications, the additional fixtures we added, and size of house (1100 sq.ft), was not out of line for a full house rewiring, and the very excellent quality of the work done, from start to finish.

I hired Ted because he seemed professional at first: reasonable quote (not the cheapest), clear scope of work, and a stated one-year warranty. I waited about a week for him to come out. The first red flag was timing. He said he'd arrive between 9:30 and 10:30. At 9:50 he texted that he was "wrapping up his morning job" and needed to get fuel, with no ETA. He arrived at 11. When he came in, he put foot covers on his shoes -- and then immediately stepped outside and back into my house, tracking dirt onto my carpet. He didn't have enough material to protect the floors where he'd be working, so I laid down plastic myself. He didn't seem particularly concerned about keeping the space clean. As the work began, things went downhill quickly. Ted started cutting into my walls and ceiling far more than expected. What should have been a relatively contained wiring job turned into multiple drywall openings -- including a long, thin strip cut from the power box toward the bathroom. As I write this, I have a drywall professional repairing all of these cuts. Once I realized how much drywall he was removing, I asked him to stop cutting and to check with me before making any more openings. I also asked how much he would charge to repair the drywall. He responded defensively, saying, "I didn't agree to that -- check your texts," as if I were asking him to fix it for free. He even threatened to leave. I clarified several times that I was simply asking for a quote. He never gave one, and instead just continued working. The long strip he cut was supposedly needed to run a new power wire. Ted initially insisted the wire would need to run under the ceiling joists -- essentially beneath the drywall -- and that I'd "just mud and tape it." I've done enough drywall work myself to know that this is incorrect. I used a flashlight to show him existing wiring running properly over the joists. He eventually conceded that it might be possible. Later, he called me to say he'd need to extend the strip further because he didn't have a straight pole to fish the wire. I paused, thought about it, and realized I owned steel fish tape -- the correct tool for exactly this purpose. When I showed it to him, he glanced at it and said, dismissively, "That's for conduit," and turned away. I explained that fish tape is used for precisely this situation. He repeated, "It's for conduit," several times. When I tried to demonstrate its flexibility, he raised his voice and said, "Look, I don't want to get lectured, okay?" At that point, I had to tell him not to raise his voice at me in my own home. Eventually I suggested he just try the tool, and if he needed help I'd assist. He asked if we could "do it together," which struck me as odd. I declined. Later, I found the wire successfully run over the joists -- using the fish tape. After calling me again about needing yet another cut, I asked him to leave. By that point, the house was extremely dirty. Drywall dust was everywhere, and the carpet was full of debris. Ted insisted on vacuuming before leaving, despite the job being unfinished and the walls and ceiling being full of holes. I told him it was fine and that he could go. He kept insisting. At one point I looked down and noticed he was standing on my carpet without foot covers, after removing the plastic I'd put down. I finally had to tell him to leave very directly. The next day, a licensed electrician came to finish and clean up the work. He installed the remaining fan with zero additional cuts except for the one required to vent it outside -- not the cuts Ted said were necessary. We actually laughed together at how bad the previous work was. He also confirmed that the new circuit Ted had run was unnecessary. After checking the fan's power requirements, he simply removed the cable Ted installed and powered the fan from the existing circuit. I'm now having him come back later this week to fix a mistake Ted made on the fan he did install. One final detail: Ted left for about two and a half hours mid-job, and when he returned, he immediately smoked a cigarette in front of my house. I'm honestly baffled by how this person has positive reviews. I regret hiring him, waiting for him, and not ending the job sooner. Ted started out sounding professional, but that professionalism did not extend to his workmanship, communication, or conduct in my home. Edit: I see this guy replied to my review! I'm disappointed to see this response mischaracterizes both my expectations and my conduct. At no point did I ask for free drywall repair, nor did I yell at or curse at anyone. The core facts remain unchanged: unnecessary drywall cuts were made, the work was left unfinished, and a licensed electrician later confirmed much of the work was unnecessary and corrected it. I've shared my experience so others can make an informed decision.
