We have a pure bred Catahoula who is "spirited and dominant" or tries to be the latter. We have had 3 sessions with Nick, owner of Consistent K9, and what huge difference we already seen in our Houla (often known as Houlagans because boy do they test you). Now, our Houla has gone through basic obedience training a while back and knows commands, but just is a bit "independent" at times and it can be challenging. Nick was able to guide us on how to train our Houla, using verbal commands, non- verbal hand commands, available tools, and his vast experience. I swear he is a dog whisperer. Please remember, YOU have to do the work too. You cannot expect anyone to train up your dog and not put in the required effort to maintain and reinforce the training. We have been guilty of that in the past too. No more though! Our desire is to have a well trained k9, who consistently follows commands and is a valued part of our family pack. We believe in Nick to much that 1) we will enroll our Houla in additional programs Consistent K9 has to offer and 2) have already refused to be poached by another trainer! I've had dogs my whole life but I've never seriously trained them. My husband and I have a 5-year-old Malinois that has progressively become more reactive and more aggressive as she ages. I can't recommend Nick highly enough! While we've had dogs that we loved as members of the family, to have them trained makes that process a lot easier and faster. For us however, the fact that our two puppies were from the (entire) litter of our daughter's dog, made "shipping them off" all the more difficult. We went to Pet Food Express in the Fountains to get supplies, and the young lady who helped us was familiar with Nick and spoke very highly of him (this helped put our mind at ease as well). She mentioned his success with other dogs, said she looked forward to Nick bringing our puppies in, as he takes them out for "field-trips" to help acclimate them to people and other dogs. Her effusive response to Nick doing the training, laid any remaining concerns to rest. Nick's awareness of our concern for their wellbeing, not just physically, but their continuing to be "happy puppies" made the process easier. We received regular updates with pictures of our happy puppies, and stories of their educational process, both their successes, and their challenges. The fact that his observations so closely matched their personalities made it clear that he wasn't merely training them, but was extremely aware of the temperaments involved. I can't express how reassuring it was to know that he wasn't merely training them, but bonding with them. Of course, this is why we chose him. The dogs weren't kept in an outdoor kennel, but in his living room. They were welcomed guests in his home, and knowing they were not sequestered out in some kennel off in the yard, helped to put our minds at ease (especially as the weather was somewhat unpleasant while they were there). When we were reunited with them, it was amazing. The difference in their behavior, and their well-behaved manner was incredible. They were such amazingly well behaved dogs it was hard to imagine they were the same hyperactive (they're golden-doodles so this is their natural state) dogs we left with him. Of course, we were able to destroy much of their training in their first weeks home, as our dogs rediscovered their natural state! But then we went for a follow-up training, and it made such a HUGE difference. That was an incredible hour where we found out what we were doing wrong, and the training they had received was quickly reasserted. My dog, Jett a Catahoula mix and I completed 6 obedience classes with Nick and I was very impressed how Jett improved over those 6 courses. This was one on one training for an hour each session. I became aware of some of the best techniques to get Jett to become a better dog. Nick met with us during a meet and greet and we discussed how things would go. I appreciate his low key attitude and how he interacted with both of us. We generally met at Maidu Park in Roseville, which was a nice location. We went through basic obedience commands to set up a good base to then learn some other more challenging commands. Each time Nick would ask me if I understood his instructions. Nick knows dogs. He gets them. We have a lab mix puppy (Cooper) and were having a tough time with his puppy behaviors. We decided to do a board and train with Nick.
