This hotel is very posh and very contemporary and well-done. It is an architectural marvel - I loved how the entire lobby/entrance/corridors between rooms and Bar/Restaurant are located in the vast open-air glass enclosure of what used to be a space between two historical buildings. It's all been well-done and the arrival experience and concierge were amazing. This is the first ultra-posh hotel we stayed at in Europe where the concierge didn't actually recommend off-the-wall priced places when we suggested being tired, hurried, and wanting to have something more casual for dinner or lunch. The room was also very very nice. Well-done and contemporary with a gorgeous bathroom. The automatic on and off lights in the room were annoying when they didn't have a way to manually override them. The spa was very accommodating and I had a nice relaxing massage and swim my final night at the hotel. The breakfast buffet was decent but we departed at 5am in the morning our final day for the airport and got conflicting information - we were told by two different individuals that they would send something up for us and then called at 5am when we were about to leave and told that wasn't going to be possible. So we were sent cold toast at the last minute. No cereal, no muffins, no nothing. I was so angry. Also - we ordered a cab and they booked a set priced cab for 37euros. It took us 17 minutes to get there at 5am. It irritates me when nice hotels are blasé with spending my money. I don't know honestly if I'd come back - for a hotel that pretends to be as upscale - I was really irritated they didn't even try to go the extra mile to give us something to eat before we left despite my having communicated it well in advance. They dropped the ball. And it was included in my room price.

What a BEAUTIFUL and classy hotel. The historic building adding the new modern touches makes this place somewhere I would love to stay. We sat in the bar area where we each had a coffee. Everyone was very relaxed and having champagne or coffee. The art and decor was stunning.

Lovely hotel and the bar is excellent. Cozy room with city view, housekeeping, helpful staff and concierge. And most importantly it is a convenient hotel location. Thank you.... You are BEST! Really

The restaurant is elegant and the architectural design is equally elegant. The service was impeccable. However, the food quality did not match the restaurant decor. The cauliflower salad was too dry and but chalky tasting. I had to send back my first ribeye steak because it was cooked medium when I ordered rare. Plus, the steak sauce was too overpowering as it was too sweet and syrupy. I would recommend this restaurant if you want to enjoy the decor and may be hang out at the bar. But I wouldn't return for the food.

Very chic/hip/cool and geared towards jet setters, business travelers (expense accounts). Not too family friendly. My mom pointed out she did not see one kid, toddler, teenager, or baby. We had a bi-level loft. bedroom was upstairs with a view of the downstairs living area. location! convenient and next to all the museums! tourist central! The lobby is beautiful with lots of glass and natural light. It's great to lounge around and wait for a friend. The gin bar makes great drinks, too. Cost? 550USD give or take.

Café... Yum

Call me a fool but give me chic. Yeah yeah yeah so what it is a hotel. Meeting for a casual business tête à tête or simply just because. The area (museumplein) is very touristy, I recommend for you to close your eyes and not look outside, but once you are safe inside **Great décor, fantastic natural light, even when it is raining or gloomy, the atmosphere is truly gezellig, don't get excited about my Dutch language skills, this is it. ****Yes there are tourist only in the hotel, but who cares... You should check it out anyway Inside is fab! Take a walk, ask about the history of the building, you will be surprise. The outdoor lounge is coved in even if it is windy you must be outside sitting in one of the oversized lounges with a nice cup of coffee or vino. ***The toilets are uber well maintained ***I love the fact that I never see any screaming kids. I luv them but please don't bring them screaming. It makes me insane. ***Great place to read a book/magazine The staff is attentive, polite, eye candy. The minus come on already with the ugly uniformsseriously hotels like this should spend money on designer uniforms on the staffs to match the ambiance. This is Amsterdam, we are Not short on young and ambitious designer. Don't be cheap! Will I go back: of course, especially in winter and when it is raining. Will I recommend, yes for sure. Remember to chit chat with the staff.

Last weekend we went to the Puro tasting experience e at the Conservatorium Hotel, one of Amsterdam's most beautiful and classy hotels. We were seated in the Brasserie, which has beautiful natural light due to all the glass. The Puro Conservatorium event takes place for 43 days (until the 12th of august) and is a celebration of summer in Spanish style. Puro at the Conservatorium does not only mean food since there is even a special program which includes wine tastings, sherry tastings and flamenco dancing courses. Awesome right? I was very excited to eat at the Conservatorium hotel since I never even had a drink there and the place is just so beautiful and luxurious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. When we sat down we immediately got a very delicious cocktail and there were small appetizers on the table. After a few minutes plates of delicious food arrived; hams, cheese, all sorts of grilled veggies, bread with butter, olives and more. It was wonderful and delicious! I liked how we could just sit down, relax and chat while the food kept coming. After the plates of nice starters were finished, the paella's and the gamba's pil pil arrived. The gamba's were really nice and I also liked the paella's. My only complaint is that one of the paella dishes was black and even though it tasted good I didn't liked my food to be black. It just doesn't look right and fresh? Maybe that's just me haha, the taste was good though. With the food we all had nice Spanish beer. Even though I was quite stuffed there still was a little spot left in my stomach for a bit of dessert. We shared a few desserts; a crème brulee with a hint of lemon which made it very fresh and extremely delicious and a nice and sweet cinnamon rice pudding dessert, which also tasted amazing, even though the crème brulee was my favourite. With the desserts I had a nice cup of coffee that came with a few cookies and chocolates. I really enjoyed the Puro tasting at the Conservatorium Hotel. The food was really nice and the staff very friendly. You really get to taste Spain in Amsterdam.

Having stayed at many hotels in Amsterdam, including most of the upscale "big names" and boutiques, I must say this place is my new favorite. The decor and design are magnificent. All the employees, from front desk to housekeeping are top notch. The bar has great cocktails and bartenders/barmaids. The rooms are luxurious. The location is great. Hotel shopping, especially in cosmetics and cigars, is way above average. Even the included breakfast is the best I have ever eaten in a hotel. I only hope they can maintain such service on such a great property.

In the court yard of the hotel

The location was fantastic--close to the museum quarter (steps away from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh) but out of the tourist hubbub.

All the rock memorabilia seems to be gone…read more The place is probably more in tune with its sensational history, maybe there is a new Yelp! page for the Clayton American Hotel, but I couldn't find one. At any rate, my experience was great. Tasteful and elegant deco atmosphere. People singing in the street at 2:00 am, but that's Leidesplein. Chalk it up as part of the experience.

As we were visiting Amsterdam again I decided, on this trip, to spoil us a little. On booking I was a little concerned that the Hard Rock organisation had taken this hotel over. So with trepidation I took the chance. OK, remember, we are oldies so can be hard to please some tell us. On arrival, the outside hadn't changed other than the bar now stretched out a little and there was service from the restaurant outside. Reception was so swift by a fantastic bubbly young lady who sorted out a room although we were three hours before the normal signing in. I wish I could remember her name. Walking to our room I noticed the architecture hadn't changed but the decoration was wonderful with so much rock music memorabilia. We LOVED it. The room, overlooking the canal, was a lot smaller than years ago but, shrug, space has to be filled. The room was more than adequate with a wonderful bathroom with walk-in shower. Breakfast was in the dining hall which was a high-light years ago. I was so pleased to see that none of the wonderful art deco had been lost. The President Hotel in Prague had ripped it all out there, sob. Here, there was modernisation, but the windows, walls and lights remained. Obviously the designer had looked and thought 'wow, we can't get rid of this'. Good on him/her. A fantastic stay and on our next visit we know where to stay. Really wish I could remember that young ladies name because she made that day for us. Hi

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!

There is a safe available in the room as well, though there was no fridge. Loved all the snacks they provided, from the gummy bears in the room, to pastries and coffee in the communal area downstairs. They also provided a snack goodie bag on checkout though I forgot to pick mine up when I went back to pick up my stored luggage at the end of the day. Overall, a fantastic stay and would highly recommend!

You Get What You Pay For…read more I bartended for Hard Rock Cafe for 12 years. I love rock and roll, so when I saw this hotel it definitely jumped out at me. I will list the positives first since there are not that many: 1. The dayshift employee (cannot remember his name) was a very nice man. He recommended great vegan restaurants and was super cool. We actually ate at his recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He booked our taxi for us the night before our departure and was very hospitable. 2. The hotel lobby is set up like a bar/lounge with a pool table and it's cozy. 3. I liked the use of musical instruments such as a drum stool for a chair in the room and the drum light fixtures in the room. It adds to the theme of the hotel. 4. It was walking distance to a lot of cool places. Negatives: 1. Amsterdam is an old city with cute old buildings. I get it. We stayed at another hotel which was also an old building (and had a very slow elevator; but still had an elevator). This hotel had nearly 90-degree stairs to carry 50 lb. luggage up four flights of stairs (we called them ladders). I could not imagine anyone with a disability or elderly ever staying there for their safety. Literally, the stairs were about 4 inches wide. I slipped on them. sober. 2. The clients mostly consisted of younger hipsters that we could hear stumbling in at night after drinks and the walls are paper thin. We even heard someone fart in the next room. 3. To drown out the noise of the other clients, my partner and I used a rain app on our smartphone so that we could get some sleep (let me add that it was currently pouring outside). We get a loud knock on our door, waking us at two o'clock in the morning by the nightshift employee, telling us to turn the rain sound down. This woke us up and we were literally trying to book a room at two o'clock in the morning at a different hotel due to his unprofessionalism. It's like, how about telling the clients that are actually making the noise to be more quiet? If you are a young and do not mind the paper-thin walls and the ladder stairs, the disgruntled night shift employee that patrols the halls for noise, and have minimal luggage, then I would recommend this place for the location. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
