They offer the longest happy hour I've ever seen, from open till 7pm! Too bad Guinness is not included in the happy hour. They offer food too but I didn't get anything. Definitely coming back to try it and enjoy a Guinness on draft. They have darts on the wall and other games to keep you entertained. Definitely coming back for more!

The dog bowl looked a little more rugged than I recalled and I sat about looking for the picture of my friend (and possibly me) that was on the wall. It wasn't visible, but I also wasn't spending a lot of time looking as it was my wife's birthday and we've both been talking about getting our birthday bowl of beer at the villager for over a decade and then never managing to do it. It's ever so slightly different without the thick layer of smoke that reminds you that you're dying just by breathing there, but still a gem that's nestled in a spot you'd never expect... bougie store, bougie store, art house movie theater, bougie store, the Villager... one of these things is not like the other, and it's great. My crew has long since passed from the place, it's a bunch of pictures of people who were my age up now when I served my time at the joint. It's been one of my favorite places to know it exists, even if I haven't been there in forever.

Outside the front door, you're informed in big painted letters that this is a "supper club and…read morelounge." Well, now. There's no supper club here nor any lounge. In fact, there is no food here whatsoever although it's very common to order food at Red's next door and have them deliver it to you as you nurse your beer and look for this mysterious supper club and lounge. Beer is all they serve here. Even the soft drinks come from a vending machine. Just beer. Cash only. The somewhat stern looking and tough acting barkeep told someone that this is a "music venue" because they have two live shows a night. I guess I can get behind that but during the day, this is Tennessee's oldest bar and there is no music playing inside at all, no radio, no nothing. It's extremely rough around the edges (the ceiling is heavily stained and more warped than not) but most of the customers are tourists who did NOT do their homework and didn't realize it's CASH ONLY. There's an ATM inside, so I guess you have to pay the high transaction fee, fool. It's divey looking for sure but a real dive bar has scary locals inside and not 75% tourists with their fanny packs. And absolutely, please do order a Red's hot chicken sandwich next door and have them deliver it to you at Springwater. It's the best hot chicken sandwich you'll have in Nashville.

They have a great selection of $5 and $6 beers. But remember, this is a Cash Only joint. And yes, this is definitely a local joint. It's practically the opposite of anything you'll find on Lower Broadway. But, it's a great place to hang out with friends. The long Bar has a lot of stools. There are also tables with chairs and a nice pool table. The staff here are super friendly and they are always very welcoming.

Then I had another couple, one as is, one subbing mezcal for tequila. Both great. As I has sat there looking at their selection of spirits I wondered if they had the ingredients to make my favorite tiki cocktail. I asked, Alex delivered. It had been six years since I had that cocktail and, while not having 100% of the ingredients, it was so damn close that it took me right back to the where and when I last drank it. Now that I know they can make it, I will be returning on a regular basis. This is a great dark and intimate location to bring a date or come solo. The folks that work there are friendly, talented and accommodating. Really great spot!

The bartenders and server were pleasant and drinks came up relatively quick. It is on the pricier side but that's the price you pay for a unique experience. One thing that I really didn't like is that our server didn't mention that auto gratuity (20%) is included on the bill. I always tip 20%+ even for mediocre service BUT I fully believe that when there is auto gratuity you should tell the patron or you're being a bit deceptive. We all added 20%+ on top of the existing 20% already and then had to adjust it when one of my friends thought her total was a bit high and pointed out the added gratuity. Not a good look or practice in my opinion.

My palette does prefer more traditional pairings, but I'm trying to be more adventurous. With that in mind, I tried the Thai Tea French Toast. All the components sounded good by themselves, but I wasn't sure how I'd like them combined - boy was I impressed! And so happy with myself for giving it a whirl. I had to slow myself down it was so good. I needed to savor every bite. I also got the Hashbrowns which were perfectly cripsy and not greasy (yay!). My friends got the S.E.C. sandwhich (which was HUGE) and the eggs & grits. Both of them enjoyed their meal very much. Next time I'm in the area I'll need to try their lunch as there are some mighty tasty looking things for this newly adventurous pallette to try!

Also, the bartender was great! I'll definitely be back soon!
