It has so much potential to be cool but it just fails to deliver. Me and my girlfriend have been there three times and each time we say to each other "maybe this time it will redeem". Here's a brief rundown. 1. First visit- we came right after they opened and were excited because the location is amazing. We had some drinks and were dancing and were threatened to get kicked out by the bouncer because we "might hurt someone". Mind you, the bar was almost empty since they just opened. 2. We met up with some friends there for a couple drinks. For reference I'm more of a beer drinker and I understand that close company is primarily a cocktail bar. I was mocked by the bar tender for trying to order a beer at a cocktail bar, which I don't take super personally. It's whatever. My girlfriend who is very into cocktails orders a dirty martini, which they pour premade out of a bottle. That's lousy for a cocktail bar. 3. Came back again. Had some pony beers (I know better now) and my girlfriend had a martini which I will say was great and much better. We close out and my tab was 150$. Something's clearly wrong. They had charged multiple shots of tequila and another random drink on my tab which the bartender very kindly removed (thank you who ever are). While in Nashville, I visited three of them (as far as I can tell, there are only three in the city). The Pearl Diver is far and away the best tiki bar in Nashville. The drinks are excellent, with both classics and unique creations on the menu. The service is quick and friendly. I couldn't believe how fast the bartender could crank out quality tiki drinks! She knows what she's doing. The food is tasty, with a fun Asian/Latin American fusion that fits the theming. Perhaps most importantly to me, the atmosphere was on point. We had hoped this visit would be different. We entered and stood at the front host stand for approximately 2-3 minutes with no host present. Unsure how seating worked, I walked to the bar to ask for assistance and was immediately yelled at by the bartender for my ID. As I retrieved it from my wallet, the bartender walked away. While I was still holding my ID out, a second bartender asked what I needed. I asked if there was a host, and was told "no." When I responded asking how seating worked, I was told to "find a seat." At that time, all visible seats were full. I walked back to the entrance to explain the situation to my wife. We re-entered and asked a group who were occupying only half of a larger seating area whether the remaining space was available. Their response was that they believed others were coming later. I then attempted to walk past the bar to see if there might be additional seating in the back, and was again yelled at by the bartender demanding my ID -- despite having just presented it moments earlier. The lack of organization, combined with repeated confrontational interactions from staff, made what should have been a pleasant evening uncomfortable and unwelcoming -- particularly disappointing given that this was our third effort to give the establishment another chance.
