I only know the Hartford lines and I have to admit that CT Transit is pretty good. I've been in Connecticut for over 33 years now and I've always driven my own car. But since February, I have had to depend on CT Transit. Recommendation: Get to the bus stop at least 5 minutes early. My morning bus is consistently 4 minutes early. Don't panic if it's late. It happens. And the driver is rarely at fault. There could be difficult passengers, traffic issues, road closures, detours, etc. Do I want to ride the bus? No. As soon as I can afford a car, no more bus for me. But while I need it, I sure am glad it's there to get me where I need to go. read more

Not terribly impressed, the CT Transit app is pathetic! It publishes the bus schedules for each route, but when at the bus stop, waiting, the departure time seems to drift! The schedule should be rigidly unchanged , and if you're running late, post the expected arrival time,don't just shift the schedule to make it appear if you're late! We're smart enough to realize that when the bus doesn't show upon time, and recheck the app to see that the arrival time has changed that you're running late! read more

This has me the third time I've got in the wrong bus schedule from the operators at CT transit been out here waiting in the cold for the bus for last 35 minutes. FYI: It has been observed that the 953pm scheduled 215M is always the LAST to LEAVE the New Haven Green on mist night it's seen sitting by Gateway between George/Crown St 1mins after all the buses drivers departs....So my first review is on the CT Transit there are two on here can't copy and paste it over here but spoke about how nasty and unfriendly and rude some of these CT Transit drivers are you could go read that if you're interested however yesterday March 18, 2024 was supposed to be CT transit drivers recognition day well last night bus 215 that was scheduled for 943pm was a no-show and the app that they're using as a third-party app went gray and it seems as if the bus came and you missed it. The bus never showed the male driver wasn' willing to help out to find out what happened just gave the generic response the next bus will be at 10:43pm. Yet on Google it showed delayed like 10 minutes or whatever the case might be it was LATE 30 minutes but nothing showed on the third party app. Ironic customer service for your company was closed so how do you reach out for help to know what's going on? What happens to people going to work overnight how you explain to the boss when there's NO PROOF of why you were late due to the bus. You guys mess up and has no form of texts communication to say alert notification buses running late blah blah blah. She showed up at 10:25 like nothing happened no explanation to the people and now you're running 15 to 20 minutes against the next bus that was scheduled at 10:43pm just unbelievable, and unacceptable behavior and you guys want to be respected, but you guys don't respect the peoplethat pay your salaries . A lot of the male drivers are extremely rude not friendly your drivers need to go back in training because I even heard someone say and I agree it's so rude growing up when you speak to someone and they don't even respond. You having a bad day leave it at home etc. don't take it to work someone greeting you have nothing to do with your BAD DAY. Customer service is huge for me I can count the few drivers that are courteous and mostly females. They know it COLD and they well key you wait in the low temperature until it time to go while their butts are nice and toasty. Another disgusting thing most of these buses the seat are filthy and to top it off these classless people get on and put their dirty shoes on the seats as if they are on the couch in their living room and the drivers don't say a word you have to sit on paper so you not sitting in crap.. They vape, there's open carriages loud phone conversations (only few drivers female will address it) loud music and movies that others doesn't care to hear. read more

It seems like either the one responsible for the accuracy of the schedule is careless or the bus conductors are just lazy and inconsiderate. 101 bus is consistently late. Screen will indicate DEP but have to wait 10 to 20 minutes before actually leaving. Ask one a question and they are dismissive and rude. Some people rely on the bus to go to work, not get drunk and high. read more

A 28 year old women struck by CT Transit bus in Stamford, CT while in a cross walk, was stuck under the bus. Let that sink in. While buses on various routes continue to pass commuters on the sides of roads, it can be very believable this could occur again. While wearing bright colors and standing close to the road, the CT Transit drivers still cannot see you apparently. Which alarms the questions of how do these bus drivers get their license, do they need cdl? Who knows but they must be in short supply of drivers by the look of it. Customers support is a complete joke, they claim oh it's not my fault, but the communication must be off, because after complaints these drivers still pass the stops people are standing at. I don't agree that they hire just whoever. They even send bus drivers on their first time and the people on the bus are suppose to direct them like they haven't been taught the route. there are some good bus drivers I can honestly say but then there the ones that are rude and disrespectful towards passengers and when you call there office to give your report and concern they just brush it off like it's ok for the driver to be rude and disrespectful. Ive never had a issue With no driver in 18 years of living in New Haven Ct . Where do there supervisors Draw the line??. these rude drivers don't know how the talk to there passengers . where is the respect Because it doesn't matter how respectful and kind you be there rudeness and attitude won't change...it's like when they got the job it's how good they can drive a bus but there mentality is never check . I like CT Transit a lot. Their buses are remarkably clean, have comfortably cushioned seats, and are air-conditioned in the summer. They are very reliable, usually running to within a minute or two of the schedule, and I have never had a bus be more than 10 minutes late. Also, rare for a transit system, CT Transit's buses are FAST. The routes have been intelligently designed and most of the time, the buses move at quite a clip. Once you actually get on the bus, you'll get to your destination almost as fast as you would in a car. And of course they're very affordable--$1.25 for one trip or $3.25 for an all-day-pass, an outright steal if you make more than 2 trips. The drivers are courteous and professional. Many are outstanding drivers, safe and experienced. I have seen drivers navigate tight passages on New Haven's streets between UPS trucks and parked cars with ease, and I have also seen drivers handle difficult situations involving confrontational passengers while maintaining a calm professional attitude. CT Transit does an excellent job given the funding that they have, which is why they get 4 stars. However, they don't get enough funding. My main complaints: * Routes do not run often enough. This makes it so that carrying a schedule is a MUST if you use these buses. * Routes do not run all night, many do not even run into the evening, and many routes are cut back greatly on weekends. Many do not run at all on Sunday. This makes it very hard for people working weekend and night-shift jobs who do not own cars. * Not enough people ride CT Transit buses. Many of the buses I ride are over half empty. So...try it out! If more people would ride, they would earn more money and also have more political clout and might be able to expand their routes. Also, contact your local politicians about increasing funding for CT Transit! read more

Copy pasta from my review under the label "CT Transit": My experience after a full year of riding the bus. Wish I didn't have to take the bus to work, but can't afford the parking downtown. Typically in the morning the buses are more on time--afternoon buses going from New Haven towards Hamden are NEVER on time. Do not trust the schedule. Some of the bus drivers are very nice; some of them are meh--this I don't care about too much. More irritatingly, I've had buses pass me (on the opposite side of the road where the stop was), have them go off route (resulting in my having to wait yet another 30 minutes for the next bus), and even had a bus driver force me off the bus at a random street because she didn't want to finish the route, and proceeded to drive down a different street in a random direction. Yep. Disclaimer: I spent all morning today waiting for two buses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did not have the same experience as the previous reviewer with empty buses. I take the J bus from Hamden to New Haven, and in the morning the buses are typically packed. Not unusual for 5-10 minute late buses in the morning; in the afternoon coming home, typical wait time is 20-30 minutes. Oftentimes while buses are empty and "not in service" at the stop. I'm not talking about a weird time, either. This is 5:30 in the afternoon where we're seeing 2-3 buses "not in service" one after the other while passengers are frustrated and waiting. read more

I have no problem with the bus environment or the drivers, but the schedules for the southbound J buses are flat out wrong. I have waited at the Whitney and Putnam stop several mornings at 8:26, 9:26, and 10:26, and they simply never arrive. Today I waited with a few other people at this stop, and three scheduled buses did not show up. The other people waiting at the stop eventually gave up and left. The bus scheduled for 10:41am came around 10:47, which is reasonable, but the driver had no idea why the previous buses never came. I don't know what's going on with the buses at other times, but if the 26 after buses are never going to show up, just take them off of the schedule! read more
