"Gimme three steps, gimme three steps, mister Gimme three…read moresteps towards the door?" (Lynyrd Skynyrd) After we had our hardwood floors and steps sanded and refinished, we decided to pretty up those steps with a carpet runner, which explains why we visited Galaxy Discount Carpet Store today. That decision ended up being a FIVE STAR experience. Their two floor showroom is just incredible! Sample boards, rolls stacked on the floor in rows, area rugs hanging from the ceiling, gorgeous stuff everywhere. We met with Charlie and explained to him what we were looking for. He said that staircase runners can either be pre-manufactured in big rolls, or custom cut from carpeting meant for rooms. We knew we wanted a runner in some shade of gray to complement our wall color, and decided on a carpet runner to be cut from a big grayish roll and then finished with black binding along the edges, to complement the black stair rail and contrast with the white stair risers. It was installed 72 hours later, and that was pretty amazing in it's own right. Communication with Galaxy was great. Charlie was a dream to work with, the installers called us the day before install to confirm the date and time window, and the van with two workers arrived as scheduled mid-afternoon and did a neat professional job on the install. Charlie's price was $140 less than one we had from a flooring company out in our neck of the woods, and the carpet quality was better at Galaxy. Everything went well, and the stairs look great!

We have dogs, and need a runner for the dog's security running down the stairs. We realized the stairs looked so good it needed a runner that was just as nice. A nice oriental pattern maybe? However, we have what I now realize is "pie steps" at the bottom landing - so that meant we could only do non-patterned runner - and the oak treads were too nice to allow that. So, we found Creative Carpet, because they could do the apparently IMPSSIBLE: custom weave a patterned stair runner so it flawlessly meets the pattern at the angles of our stairs! This was in 2011 - I'm writing this now in 2018 (almost 2019) because we're cleaning carpets, and the stair runner has held up so well - you'd never know it was installed 7 years ago! John & Eileen were very easy to work with, design choices, scheduling, custom in-place installation, and we even picked out a hallway runner for the upstairs. We couldn't be happier - even 7 years later! Thanks John & Eileen!

Guy, Tucker, Joe, and Dan were incredible from start to finish. They were honest, dependable, and consistently showed up ready to work hard every single day. The craftsmanship was exceptional -- every detail was done with care and precision, and it's clear they take real pride in their work. Communication was seamless, and they went above and beyond to make the process stress-free for our family. One moment that really stood out: they surprised our kids with their own signed toolbelts -- such a thoughtful, personal touch that says everything about their character. If you want a team that delivers outstanding quality, integrity, and genuine kindness, look no further than Racine Homes. We couldn't recommend them more highly.

Over the next few days the Contractor tried to get us to pull the permit stating it would be a lot cheaper yet in the proposal it states that the contractor pulls the permit. I called the town and they advised me NOT to pull the permit as if I did it I'd be liable for a injuries or mishaps. Guy the contractor told me that the town was using scare tactics on me and that I should go ahead and pull the permit..I refused. Since, the Contractor wants to negotiate his price for more money. I met with the build inspector and he pointed out a lot of poor workmanship that GUY at Racine homes did and it will not meet Code standards. No Flashing on the rear deck or front porch, No 12 inch concrete footer at the bottom of the step on both set of step, they are just sitting on the dirt, no correct spacing on the Rear steps leading into the house. It has been weeks and within those weeks I have had no Contact from the Contractor and while we were not home, he came and removed all the building materials from the jobsite that I paid for to complete the job and took the front railings off the front porch. Unfortunately it has come to leaving a bad review but if it will help someone out from not getting taken advantage of, then it helped.

Arranging a quote is very straight forward, and their prices are certainly better than what you'll find if you were to work with a larger commercial flooring company like Home Depot, Empire or Lowes. However, with that potential discount comes a trade-off in quality of service. We had a carpet install job last year that went well enough, but the guys on the job managed to spill a can of black paint on carpet in a room that was not part of the job. No one admitted to the mistake, and actually seemed to suggest that it was just "like that" while they were there. To their credit, the foreman on call contracted a carpet cleaner who spent the better part of the day trying to clean up the paint. Needless to say, we have a nice black shadow on our carpet now, though I appreciated their attempts at cleaning up the accident. There was also a questionable carpet seam that was left, which also stands to this day. Generally, when you're seaming two separate sections of carpet between rooms, you line up the seam in the doorway - and more specifically, directly underneath the door - so that the transition seam is not visible while the door is shut. Apparently, because we didn't specifically point this out, they seamed the carpet about an inch outside of the doorway. Which looks great. Another issue we had with the install, is the excessive amount of carpet tacking that pokes through the carpet along the edges, and on the stairs. These are small nails that can puncture the flesh on your feet, and we experience this quite often. I mentioned this to the manager, and he politely explained that you just have to pound the nails down with a hammer. To their credit, he did make a trip out to follow up on this complaint, but I would expect the job to be done right the first time. You shouldn't have to walk on nails after a carpet install. The crew was nice enough, and the overall service experience was acceptable. They're very nice people, and despite my uninspired review, I would probably work with them again after highlighting my displeasure with past experiences.
