I went to the CCC in March to adopt a pair of bonded siblings I spotted on their website. The space is a squeeze and on the weekend I visited, there was chaos from all the visitors milling around in the small space. Still, the busy volunteers were very kind and explained the adoption process clearly. I was able to visit the kitties I was interested in and saw many other cuties too. Their application process starts online on their website. Applying there first and then bringing the printed approval email makes everything go smoother. Once I figured that out, I got the bonded cats on my return visit very quickly and now, about four months later, the two cats are doing very well in their new home. They're healthy, had no problems at the vet check-up, and will be celebrating their two year birthday in August. read more

Had an awesome experience at CCC! I went on a Monday after work right when they opened. I had my eyes set on an orange kitten. Unfortunately, they didn't have any at the time. Two of the volunteers there were fostering kittens and Liz volunteered to go all the way home to bring one back for me! I was able to browse all the kitty's, play with some, and process the adoption paperwork in about an hour and a half. I love that they let you play with the kittens and I'm looking forward to going back as a volunteer. Four stars because it was a little overwhelming between all the volunteers feeding, customers browsing, and small size. read more

Walked in yesterday on the hunt for a family cat who would be okay with our rambunctious almost 4 year old. Marianne, who runs the shelter, knew so much about which cats had different temperaments, what kinds of medical issues, etc. We found the perfect cat for our family and he is happily snoozing on our couch right now. I had a great experience at CT Cat Connection! The application process was very fast and easy. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, it was clear that they cared a lot for the cats. My girlfriend and I visited Connecticut Cat Connection in hopes of adopting a kitten. We traveled an hour and a half from Western Massachusetts to the adoption center, mostly because of the positive reviews we saw online. I am a loving owner of two cats - one five years old and the other three years old. My hope was to bring a new kitten into our happy family. We were incredibly heartbroken to be turned away from the adoption center, in what was the most negative experience I've ever had with an animal adoption agency. Before we were allowed in to see the cats, we were asked a series of questions. The first question was whether or not my girlfriend and I were living together. I explained to the woman that my girlfriend is living in an apartment in Massachusetts while she finishes school, and that I live in New York City. In a few short months, we will be living together. I told the woman that our intention was that the cat would keep my girlfriend company in Massachusetts until she returned home to New York, where we would be re-united. This was apparently the "wrong" answer in the "quiz", as we were told we could not adopt a kitten, as the shelter requires all kittens to be in a home with another cat. I wholeheartedly agree with the right of a shelter to make rules regarding the placement of its animals. So, I explained to the woman that instead, I could take the kitten to my home, where it would live with my two cats, who both get along great with other animals. This answer was not good enough for her, as she had already made up her mind that we could not adopt a kitten. Her tone suggested that I was somehow being dishonest, as she responded, "That's not what you said what you came in." The reality was that I was trying to provide one of her kittens a loving home, and she had an alternative agenda from the moment we walked in. I don't know why the woman wasn't willing to hear me out regarding the fact that the kitten would be placed in a home with two other cats, and that our initial plan was simply one of the options we had for the cat in the first few months of its life. However, her first question of "Are you living together?" Is a good hint. Perhaps if we weren't both in our early 20s, we would have been taken more seriously. Perhaps if we weren't an interracial couple that didn't look like we were from Windsor, we would have been taken more seriously. Perhaps this woman was having a bad day and regretted her actions soon after. Either way, we will soon find a kitten to love, but it will take much longer to get over the degrading treatment we received at Connecticut Cat Connection. read more

I went to the humane society in Meriden about a month ago and found a beautiful kitten. She wasn't quiet ready yet so we would have to wait a month. A few weeks later we found out she's sick and has to stay another month. A month later and we get told another month. After much back and forth and a lot of heartache we were recommended here. I called and talked to an amazing women over there that provided everything I needed and more. About an hour later we were there and 45 min we took home a beautiful kitten. They are an amazing group of people who brought so much joy in our house. After our bad experience at the human society we are incredibly lucky to have met them. I can not thank them enough and highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

While their hearts are certainly in the right place, the CCC has lost perspective of their mission. The shelter is over-crowded and under-staffed, which leaves cats living in cages for years on end, often filthy, and constantly sick. I volunteered there for several months and cared for cats with chronic upper respiratory infections, bloody stool, and a ringworm epidemic like none I have ever seen (I have worked at two other shelters, one out of state). After speaking with several other volunteers I can surmise that the root cause of the problem is that the owner insists on taking in new cats when there is no room, which includes picking up cats from NY shelters, even when the capacity at the CCC is more than exceeded. The intent is to save cats that would otherwise be euthanized in NY shelters - but the fate many of these animals face when they come to the Windsor shelter is, in my heartfelt opinion, much worse than euthanization. I tried to rationalize with the non-profit org's founder, but to no avail. More and more cats keep coming to what is essentially a sick-house. I finally took it upon myself, with a very heavy heart, to call Windsor animal control. They told me that I was the third or fourth person to call them about this shelter. Yet, every time they investigate, a miraculous clean-up occurs the evening before and while they admit it is over-crowded, their hands are tied by state bureaucracy. I have seen cats suffer for months until one volunteer or another finally takes matters into his/her own hands and brings the cat home, takes it to their personal vet, and gets it the treatment it needs. This is an unfair financial burden on the lovely people who dedicate their time and energy to the shelter. I can't say enough about the good *intent* of the majority of the volunteers who run the establishment. But I also cannot say enough about how poorly their mission is executed. Please, do whatever you can to encourage/influence them to reduce their cat population, so the kitties they take in get the medical attention, love and care that they need while they wait for their forever homes. read more

Went in to look at the kitties. A friend was looking for a cat and asked me to check this place out. Was pleasantly surprised that the air quality was very good and it was very clean in there. Some kitties wandering around outside of cages and very friendly. No one looked unhealthy except a few guys that appeared to have been injured but were on the mend. Recommend this place to anyone searching for a pet. read more

I adopted two wonderful kittens about a month ago from CT Cat Connection. I took one of the kittens home with a cold. After visiting a veterinarian, I realized that I had been sent home with limited health records from the shelter. Furthermore, the vet had multiple questions regarding the health of the kittens and while I have continuously reached out to the shelter, they have been unresponsive. Before adopting from this shelter, I would urge you to ensure that you are provided with complete and accurate health records. I have been very disappointed with the responsiveness post adoption. read more

The staff was super friendly and patient as we picked out our kitty. We were able to take him home the same day, and the shelter even let us borrow a cat carrier since we were unprepared. They have a lot of cats, but they all seem happy and well cared for. I liked that many of them were roaming around the shelter, playing together. This place is the ONLY place in Connecticut that I would recommend any of my friends to adopt a cat. I have never written a review through Google on any establishment, but felt extremely inclined after my experience here at the Cat Connection. I adopted my cat Marley here about 6 months ago and the experience was exactly what I was looking for. I had previously tried other state shelters only to be met with wait times, interviews, a depressing atmosphere and with only a few cats to choose from every time I went. This place was the diamond in the rough I was looking for. Being a no-kill shelter was already a plus but what I loved the most was the freedom to meet and interact with all the available cats as you pleased! Believe me there are plenty to check out too! The ones that are friendly with other cats roam freely while others that are newer or more shy chill in their kennels. I spent a good 4 hours there trying to interact with every cat I could until I found the one (he licked me and purred for me after only petting him a few minutes). After a complimentary vet check and a $100 donation for the neutered cat, I was driving him home and now we are living happily ever after. I encourage everyone who reads this to pay them a visit. They are truly amazing people who do what they do for people like me and I really do hope they see this! read more
