We drove across the Confederation Bridge both ways between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island on our road trip. I wanted to drive across this long bridge since my professional field involves roads and bridges. The Confederation Bridge is 12.9 km (8 mi) long and is operated 24 hours a day by the Strait Crossing Bridge Limited in Borden-Carleton (Summerside), Prince Edward Island. This engineering marvel crosses the Northumberland Strait at its narrowest point, with 45 main bridge spans, 14 spans on the New Brunswick approach, and 7 spans on the Prince Edward Island approach. The bridge was designed over several years and constructed by 2,500 men and women enduring freezing temperatures over the frigid waters and frozen ice over three years. There were staging areas on each side of the bridge which produced key bridge components on site and barges were used out on the strait to construct the bridge, piece by piece. The design life of the bridge is 100 years. The Confederation Bridge opened to traffic in 1997, providing a more efficient fixed crossing and making it the longest bridge in the world over ice waters or shall I say ice. Before the bridge was opened, a Car Ferry operated between Borden-Carleton and Cape Tormentine, NB. The Confederation Bridge is the easiest way to travel by vehicle to Prince Edward Island versus taking a ferry. However, there was a drawback driving across the bridge. The concrete barriers along the shoulder for safety were too high for my car and we could not see the Strait in most places. There's no toll traveling from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island, but there's a toll of $44.50 CAD (2 axle autos) on the trip from Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. They take cash and credit cards, but we used a gift card purchased earlier from the Marketing office in Charlottetown just in case to speed things up, though there was no wait at the tolls. No pedestrians ($4.25) or bicycles ($8.50) are physically allowed on the bridge, so there's a shuttle service (fee based) available which operates 24 hours from the Confederation Bridge Office in the Gateway Village (PEI) and the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre (NB).

The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I'm traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. The $222.50 attractions package includes access to the Whale Watching Boat Tour, Thousand Island Boat Tour, Hopewell Rocks, Maritime Museum, etc., of which this attraction is one of the experiences. We entered PEI via the NFL ferry and now leaving the island via the bridge. The 12900 metre engineering marvel opened in 1997; old technology by today's standards. Nevertheless, it's amazing! If your in New Brunswick you have to go across to P.I.E. the bridge is awesome. Only drawback is that it costs 45$ round trip.

First, the interior was very dirty and looked like the floor and seat needed to be detailed. Secondly, I asked him about opening the door of the minivan and he rudely responded to me. I figured he was having a bad day. Thirdly, I paid with a debit card and hit the option to print the receipt. I then handed the Card machine and he didn't provide the receipt. I politely asked him for the receipt and He shouted at me. He then proceeded to tell me not to "Say a word to him" as he struggled to print the receipt. After that, he carelessly moved my luggage out of the car. I have never felt dehumanized in my life. I called the customer service number to file a claim and the operator hurriedly interrupted me without any care for my concerns and instructed me to call the boss. Now it is no news that this cab service is the worst in Charlottetown, I have had prior experience with this same company but chose not to speak up. I feel it's time to call to action the management of this company to do some serious work on the personnel and services provided by this company. It is getting out of hand.

We got a cab from the Stanhope residence and I got the cab to pleasant grove road and buddy charged me $30.. he was a dick. It was a seven minute drive and I showed him the shortcut as well. I asked how it was $30 for a seven minute drive and he just ignored me and put the machine in front of me. I paid it as i don't like to argue but this fucking horse shit. I love this company but honestly this guy was terrible and charge over priced. Check your drivers because this guy is a fucking imbecile. Fuck that guy

He demonstrated a depth and breadth of knowlege of matters important, trivial, tragic and funny and kept our attention through the two day travels. He went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enrichment. We saw picturesque areas, I was not wild about Anne of Green Gables, but was surprised at how fascinating the museum and house visit were. He recommended excellent places to eat and we had only pleasant surprises and no disappointments, except that the day we flew home gave warmth and glorious sunshine to everyone on the island, obviously a circumstance beyond his control. Would I return? Absloutely! Would I recomend his tours? ...in a heartbeat.

He tried to foil me with his Anne of Green Gables trivia but I prevailed! He took us to the "Lake of Shining Waters" and to "Green Gables" and on a trip around the island and to see the new bridge. We also got to stand on the quintessential red cliffs of the island. If you are in the area you have to use them for your tour. If I am ever back on PEI (which I sure home happens) I will be sure to take a tour from them!
