I have recommended Marks Builders to many of my family and friends, and they've all had great things to say too.  Read on if you want the whole story! I had a leak in a wall between two bathrooms, above the kitchen.  Just to set the scene, my wife was pregnant and we had a baby due 3 weeks after the start of the construction.  My kitchen had a dropped ceiling and was original to the 1970s house.  Dustin worked with State Farm (my insurance carrier) to bring the adjuster's repair estimate up to a par. He and his team worked with us to order cabinets early (we were getting custom cabinets so they had a long lead time), then they gutted the kitchen and bathroom, raising the ceiling to 8' (reworking the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical lines in the process).  They pulled up all of the tile in the downstairs while we were out of the house (and in the hospital having the baby).  We asked for a few days at home without construction when we came home, to which they agreed. They worked hard to make sure that the house was ready for cabinets when they would be delivered. The cabinets were delivered without issue and installed the same week, with the trim taking longer than any other single step because they wanted it to look just right - and it paid off! The finishing touches make all the difference! The granite crew came in and did their thing. Like all of Dustin's sub-contractors, they were on time, professional, and courteous. They did their work well, quickly, and cleanly. We opted for granite counters and granite backsplashes, with different edge finishes in different places, corners, etc. to work around. They did it all well. Our kitchen looks fantastic, even a year and a half later. Through the whole 2-month process, Dustin's crew was on-site 4-6 days/week, except when we asked for the break. We made a lot of changes midway through, and Dustin didn't nickel and dime on the little things (moving an outlet, changing from a 2 gang to a 4 gang plug, etc). He was happy to work with my attention to detail (which can frustrate most people I know) and he did it with a smile - his attention to detail was similar. His crew was always fun to have around, and I never once worried about them being in the home, whether I was there or not. They worked hard to make sure we felt safe with them in the house at the start of Covid. All said, I strongly recommend Marks Builders. They're honest, smart, hard-working, and fun people who care about the work they produce and their customers' experience.

The amount of prep work needed to get a quality and trouble free hardwood, or even engineered wood floor takes more knowledge and skill than one would think. It's more than just the installation. My wife and I have installed several floating engineered wood floors over the years and decided to do this one as well. But we have never glued flooring before. We hired Sam to come and do a moisture reading so we could determine the proper glue to use. While he was setting it up I asked a few questions which quickly turned into an education I could have not gotten anywhere else. We quickly realized how much more prep we needed to do. When the prep work was over, Sam, who out of the kindness of his heart, came to help us get the first few rows installed on his day off! He taught us troweling techniques, talked to us about layout and gave us tips that only an experienced installer would know. Sam spent several hours of his own time and asked nothing in return. You can tell he takes great pride in his craft and really want's people to enjoy what they purchase. I wish more craftsmen approached their jobs with the integrity, pride and skill that Sam brought to us. He told us he has been doing this for 20 years and shows! For some unknown, obscure reason, our builders installed limestone counters in our kitchen and…read moremaster bathroom. Initially, they were quite appealing. They were very pretty, but over time, they quickly proved to be a poor, poor choice for a high-traffic, high-usage area. The counters were easily stained and scratched. I was always afraid of spilling liquids onto the counter, so I was constantly wiping and cleaning them. I detested our kitchen counters. And our master bathroom was in even worse shape than our kitchen. So, after much discussion and a little research, the guy and I decided to replace the counters with quartz. Making the decision was the easy part. Finding someone to handle the project, from start to finish, was another. We went to the typical big box stores, Home Depot and Lowe's, but weren't sold on their services. We went to UB Kitchens, but had a perplexing experience there. Then after a bit of research, I found Austin Custom Tops on Yelp. I called Shaun, who was extremely responsive and professional. He came out within a few days of my call to show us samples, measure our kitchen, and give us a quote. I have a hard time trusting contractors. We've had some mediocre and shoddy work done over the years. However, after meeting Shaun, I could tell that he was someone who really cares about his business and the quality of work that his company delivers. In the end, we decided to go with Silestone counters and have Shaun's team install them. His quote was actually a few hundred dollars less than the other quotes we received, and he'd handle the entire project for us (i.e., order the materials, cut/install, disconnect/reconnect appliances, etc). His team was professional and friendly, and they did a really great job installing our counters and backsplash. The turnaround on the project was ridiculous: they had our counters and backsplash installed within 2 weeks of placing our order. We are ecstatic with the results and can't stop admiring our new kitchen and bathroom.

The house I was flipping was a 1926 house that had all stucco walls.
