When I first moved to Concord years ago, I loved this bakery. But lately, and after giving it several tries, I have to say I think they are using mixes in some of their products. The consistency of their brownies, which used to be my favorite thing to order there, is far too homogeneous for a freshly baked item made from scratch. I bake quite a lot myself and never use mixes. Cupcakes and brownies are not supposed to look solid inside, and the flavors taste like prepackaged goods, in other words, fake. The items may be freshly baked, but certainly not from scratch, which they should be for the prices charged. read more

Olivia, an owner, was above and beyond helpful while planning for my dear friend's party. She was attentive, professional and pure joy. She made a beautiful cake that was chocolate and gluten free and frosted with chocolate ganache. The decor was loved by all and guests went back for seconds! She confirmed details days before pick up and even walked the cake to my car. We also picked up some vibrant and scrumptious sugar cookies that were daisies, butterflies and tulips! Stopped in Saturday morning for coffee and a treat. There was a lot going on and only a few places to sit but most people were getting things to go so it wasn't hard to snag a table. The seating area is cute but does get a little crowded when it's busy. I ordered a hot coffee and a lemon square. Both were delicious! The lemon square was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. This was a cute little bakery. I stopped in during a visit to my friend's new house in Concord. She said she wanted to "show me something" and we parked down the block. It turns out she wanted to bring me to Concord Teacakes to buy me an early birthday treat! While lots of the baked goods looked amazing - I went old school and chose a vanilla/vanilla cupcake. I must say that I am a big fan of sweets and cupcakes in particular. This cupcake was yummy, but it just missed out on being great. It was decorated with a cute flower and had just the right amount of frosting for me (not too little, but not towering either). The cupcake was a perfect "medium" size. I also loved that neither the cake nor the frosting was too sweet like you might find at a grocery store bakery. Sweet, but not overly so/fake tasting, which I really enjoyed. So why not 5 stars? The cupcake itself was a little too "dark" for me. It's like they left it in the oven for a few minutes too long. The inside was tasty and fluffy, so I definitely enjoyed it overall, but the outside kept it from getting to the next level. I've been coming here most of my life, as my friends and family are fans. Having recently got into vanilla iced lattes, having never drank coffee before in my life except like 3 random occasions, I decided to try ordering some here and have not been disappointed. Good sizes, very nice taste, solid selection of flavor shots, and powdered cocoa and cinnamon that you can add as well. Fantastic scones, pastries, prepared lunches, lots of desserts, pies, and seasonal treats too makes this a staple of the town and great for all manner of food and beverage products you could want from a bakery. read more

Concord Teacakes is located in West Concord, just across from the train station. Loop around back and there is a small parking lot - just read the signs to avoid the marked spots. They have a scattering of colorful chairs and maybe 3 tables outside for those who prefer the outdoors, and an accessible entrance on that side of the building. Inside also has space to be enjoyed by their dine-in guests. I perused the pastries protected by their glass counters before confirming with the staff that the only way to know the prices of their baked goods is to ask. My take: almond macaroons for $1.69 each ($1.89 for the chocolate dipped sort), and chocolate florentines for over 2 bucks apiece (the receipt named some other item - Lakota $2.06). A short stay in my trunk on a warm day resulted in melty chocolate and macaroons that threatened to break apart beneath my fingers. Still their almond macaroons were crisp crust and airy melty within. Terrific, though the almond flavoring was a bit on the artificial side. My mom, who prefers her sweets on the less sweet side of things, preferred the florentine, which was crisp with a nice coating of dark chocolate. I have found Concord TeaCakes to be hit or miss, 40/60. Our recent purchase of Gingerbread Whoopie Pies and Apple Pecan Coffeecake was a hit. Both were moist & flavorful & converted this whoopie pie & gingerbread loather into a fan of both. However, other times the pastries we have purchased were meh, had a day old feel and were over priced. The coffee & tea are standard fare. The seating outside on the patio during good weather is nice. However, there is minimal seating inside and can be cramped if there are many people in the store. As with the food, service is hit or miss. We have has often been served by staff who seem to be having a very bad day as we have been by a friendly server. Cakes are good. Customer service is terrible. Drove to the store today to order a custom cake. Woman at the counter was rude and told me she couldn't help and I had to order online. Something about inventory and new store policy, even though I've ordered in person many times. I asked if I was supposed to leave the store, go home, and order online from there. She said "that's the policy". I told her I was the customer and found it hard to believe I was being told nothing could be done to help take my order in person, and that I was supposed to leave! I asked if she could make an exception this time. Got a couple of huffs from her and sighs as she got a form. She made it seem like she was doing me a big favor taking my order! She was rather nasty insisting their policy was 7 days for a custom order. OK, I can understand that. But the attitude was unbelievable! Their products are good. Not great, but good. I like them. But the customer service is nasty. When was the last time you went to a store and they tried to turn you around to go home and do your business online? Yeah, me neither. read more

We ordered a Winnie the Pooh cake for my daughters birthday. I sent a picture of a cake that had Pooh and Piglet and the cake designer perfectly copied the image and was given creative license for the rest. It came out so well and tasted amazing. It was an incredibly moist and fresh tasting cake that everyone enjoyed. I've also picked up cupcakes from this place before and they are good. I went in on a Friday morning around opening time and found plenty of street parking. You go in through the side door and you exit the front door. I ordered one Hot and one iced coffee, 4 cupcakes (Carrot cake, caramel macchiato, Oreo, and red velvet), and a cranberry orange loaf. Coffee was awesome, cranberry orange loaf was very moist and crumbly (but good!), and the cupcakes were phenomenal. The caramel macchiato was my favorite- not too sweet but flavorful. Love this place! Delicious shortbread cookies and breakfast sandwiches. Picking up our ordered-ahead breakfast order was a bit chaotic, some of the younger staff seemed a little confused, but everybody was nice and I definitely love to support this type of neighborhood cafe. I bought a (4-pack) package of their mini whoopie pies at a local spot. $8 for a pack of 4, which to me is expensive, but I thought it would be worth it if they were good. Nope. They were not fresh (even though I bought them more than 2 weeks before the date on the package) AND they were sickly sweet. I couldn't even eat them.
