I had broken my laptop screen a month back and was using a monitor for a display. This isn't the problem. I ordered a screen and I know how to replace it. the problem was when my computer randomly stopped working. I hadn't touched the motherboard anytime soon. The only thing I had messed with was the section of the computer the screen was attached to. I would turn the computer on, fans would start, keyboard lit up, broken screen would light up, and then it would shut off within 2 - 4 seconds. I checked every possible connection: to the battery, to the screen, the fans, ram, memory, etc. I then tested whether the motherboard powered up and worked with certain hardware detached. After going through everything, the problem remained the same, therefor, the motherboard has to be the issue. After I did all the easy stuff I knew the only thing I could do was go to a computer tech. I came to computer renaissance where there seemed to only be one tech, who wasn't at the shop. After getting my computer inspected here, I came back hoping to see the tech. I was told my motherboard was dead. I wasn't really given an explanation as to why. The person in the shop, I believe to be a receptionist who was very nice, gave the tech who inspected my computer a call. He explained how he had disconnected and connected everything like I had done. He mentioned how the computer wouldn't even display on HDMI, which is a given; The computer not staying on is the issue. I thought that this tech would know how to solder or troubleshoot, which would be outside of what literally anyone can do. If this tech knows how to check the power flow on a motherboard, he clearly didn't want to, but It's easier to push the problem aside as a dead motherboard in need of a $400-$500 replacement and downgrade. Didn't even mention that he lost some screws. I was then charged 75 bucks, which I paid since I hadn't mentioned the diagnosis I had done very well, and I wasn't in the mood to start an argument with someone who wasn't even there. I conclude, I am not happy with my diagnosis. if you want a computer tech that is capable of more than just working on the basic unplug-able hardware, and who can do more advanced motherboard troubleshooting outside that unplug-able hardware then I would recommend somewhere else. read more

My laptop had a blue screen error code and I tried troubleshooting it myself using google searches and YouTube and despite all the resources we currently have nothing I did seemed to work. After looking through a couple of other computer repair shops most of which seemed to be able to do simple things such as "making my computer go faster" and such. However Computer Renaissance was the only place I found online that knew how to fix the most complex problems despite their not so many reviews. Long story short Dylan managed to get my computer repaired again for a reasonable cost. I recommend to take it to Dylan if you need ACTUAL computer expert help. I used them years ago and they were great, so when I needed help with my laptop, I went WAY out of my way to go to them (25 miles). They had it for 4 weeks. It needed a new motherboard. When I got it back, it took me two days to fix things they shouldn't have messed with and I have all kinds of strange email addresses in my email. Last time they'll see my business. I went from store to store, needing a small specific detail, basically a CD with a specific form of software burned onto it, and I went three places, two laughed me out the door, and another wanted to charge $20 for one CD! I went to this computer renaissance, and they hooked me up at a very reasonable price. The took care of me because they felt they needed to satisfy the customer. The work was minimal on their part, and they could have tried to snow me over. If you want to go try an independent computer store for the personal attention, this is the place to go. read more

My laptop suddenly became unusably slow and I reluctantly decided to find a place to try and fix it when I stumbled upon Computer Renaissance. I was fearful that my laptop wouldn't be salvageable, but these guys found the problem in the manufacture's software for the hard drive and now it is good as new. I was expecting to pay well over $100 for this repair, but I was only charged $50 after they spent 3 days and no telling how many hours to fix it. I was ELATED!! I will no longer be reluctant to take my laptop to them if I ever experience any problems in the future for I now know that these guys will do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of the issue and exhaust all measures to fix it. Called this store to ask about availability of a USB Y-cable (2 males-1 female) so that my external hard drive could draw more power from the computer without needing an external power supply. Instead of a simple yes/no answer, I got some idiotic "know-it-all" who tried to "educate" me on why such a thing can not and does not exist. Blathered on about how it's "not technically possible". Yea. Okay buddy. So I ordered one from Amazon and it works great. I would avoid this store. Knowledgeable tech store employees are great, and I can even tolerate employees who aren't so knowledgable as long as they can acknowledge the gaps in their knowledge and refer me to google or whatever. But this place clearly encourages their employees to just make crap up to feel superior to their customers. Will never give them my business. read more

I have used this store three times. One for a data recovery. One to build a custom computer when I wanted to stick with Windows 7 and not Windows 8, and all the Windows 7 Dells had low specs, and now for a cleaning/checkup. Each time I have been very pleased. I had them replace the hard drive in a laptop a couple of years ago and it went well so I tried them again. I had them put a new solid state drive in my iMac. I got it home and the drive worked but the wi fi no longer did. They had screwed up the hardware. Took it back and they fixed the wi fi but pinched the monitor wire putting it back together. Took a week to order the new wire (ever hear of overnight shipping). Repaired that and had apparently had screwed up the fan sensor (I hadn't had it home long enough to discover this before). I took the half labor refund they offered (really?) and used to pay Zmac to actually fix the thing. I will start there next time. read more

I had used Computer Renaissance twice in the past & had one good experience and one not so stellar experience. I like the owner and he seems professional and knowledgeable. I had a minor issue and decided to try them again for what should have been an easy, quick fix. To my great surprise, they told me my computer was unusable and the motherboard corrupt when it had been working fine before and did not have issues when I brought it in. They also said it would cost more to fix than it was worth and "kindly" offered to safely dispose of my computer for me. As my computer was a top of the line older model, it still had value and I am fairly certain I was scammed and it was likely re-sold after they fixed the minor issue. I read an article about common computer store scams and it really seems I was the recipient of one by one of their techs who made up an issue other than the one I brought it in for. Very disappointed and they have lost a customer for good. I do not recommend this company. read more
