My Mac was having hard drive issues and they were able to diagnose the problem free of charge, plus warned me about the cost of every service they provided so I wasnt blind-sided. My experience with Mike was pleasant, albeit mixed. I can definitely say that Mike was professional and courteous all the way through our dealings and I found him easy to communicate with in general. He was also very busy with others clients, which he made clear to me from the start so that I would understand that it would take a bit to troubleshoot my computer. I get it; business is good - that's a good thing. Indeed, it took a while to get feedback on what was happening with the device. While I won't detail the whole journey, suffice it to say that the ultimate conclusion was that he could not fix the issue. The problem was related to the USB (it might've short circuited the motherboard so that I could not get into the OS any longer). Mike said he tried everything but nothing he attempted worked. Hey... it happens! For some reason, I had imagined that this would end up being an unfixable situation (I just had a feeling). Therefore, I had done some research on parts I could purchase in the event that what seemed inevitable indeed turned to be true. And it had! This is where I found myself a little frustrated with Mike; I needed to replace some parts and I felt that he was not so keen on dealing with this necessity. Understand that most of our exchanges were through text, and through text he eventually indicated that he would not only be unable to fix the computer, he would not be able to make replacements of parts until much later (by now I've been without a computer for roughly four weeks). However, what was odd about that exchange was when he suggested that I probably would not want to wait that long. I'm not sure why he thought I would feel this way (I needed the computer fixed), especially considering how long I've already been with it so far. It was also odd that he was not calling me directly about it. So, I ended up calling him to address this more directly through the phone and it was during that conversation that it started to become clear to me that he was not so enthused with the idea of working with custom computers (mine was one such; I had put it together myself some four or so years ago), for he mentioned that he and his wife had been discussing getting out of that aspect of the business (I'm paraphrasing here). Given that I needed the computer to be fixed, I honestly felt a bit abandoned since I really had no idea where to go (if the Computer Guy was throwing in the white towel, then what hope was there to fix the pc?? Haha). My guess is that there are many types of computer issues besides upgrades and/or fixes like the one I needed, so maybe Mike deals more with other types of problems besides busted parts inside the computer that need to be replaced (I'm spitballing here). In any case, what I can say that was certainly to Mike's credit is that when I asked if he recommended other folks, although he admitted he was not in the habit of knowing competitors, he thought of the Tech Boys (I was not familiar with them at all) as a possible alternative (though he really didn't know much about them directly). I have to say that I was very glad for the suggestion as I was able to take it to them and, upon getting the parts, get my computer running swiftly with the upgraded parts that were needed to resolve the main issue that had put it out of commission. Therefore, what I can certainly say about Mike is that, as I stated at the top, he was a professional all throughout the process and his cost for checking the device was reasonable (he is not trying to swindle anyone). I do wish I could have gotten the whole system completed with him rather than someone else, given that Mike's business is a heck of a lot closer (quite literally "next door") to me than Tech Boys'. Yet, I'm glad that he was able to offer someone who could get the job done (for that review, check out the Tech Boys Patchogue; I was very satisfied with their quick work, their helpful feedback on its status, and their recommendations when something was not working right). I am submitting the review now (two months later) because I finally have my computer here at home running like there had never been a problem to begin with! Therefore I wanted to give what I feel would be proper and fair reviews to both the Computer Guy Next Door and The Tech Boys based on the service I received from each of them concerning the same device with the exact same issue that began my search for a solid computer repair service. The only reason I didn't give Mike the five stars was because although he was very professional and courteous, the computer was ultimately fixed by somebody else; I feel a 4 star rating is more than fair considering that most people looking to read a review wanna hear about how well the problem was resolved. So I'm an idiot who took my beloved Alienware for granted and got a little too wine happy one night. I was distraught when she wouldn't start up right away (for those reading DON'T TRY TO START UP YOUR COMPUTER RIGHT AFTER A SPILL) When it did start up the screen was all sorts of messed up. I called Best Buy (Geeksquad), Staples and a handful of other recommendations from friends. Most of them wouldn't even touch a spill repair, one of them actually told me I should just cut my losses and buy a new computer (It's a $2000 computer, I'm not going to just throw it out and get a new one without trying something first). When I called the computer guy, however, Jill answered the phone and was understanding and not pushy or judgy at all about the nature of the spill (dumbass with a wine glass). She answered every question I had, stupid or not and was very pleasant. I dropped it off, Mike talked to me about what happened and what he would do to get it fixed. The next day they called with an update. It wasn't a big update, just that they were waiting for a price on my screen, but an update nevertheless. They knew I was anxious. The day after Mike texted me with the price of the repair, how she looked on the inside and about how long it would take. He also assured me that he treats every computer like his own. I got periodic updates over the time they had my computer. I picked up my laptop on time and paid exactly what they originally said it would cost. It works great and looks good as new! Runs like Greased Lightning! When my office computer became unbearably slow I did everything I could to exorcise the demons slowing things down. I ran Malwarebytes (which I pay for), cleaned temporary filed and folders, defragged, ran ADWCleaner. But still it lagged. Then I talked with Mike about buying a new or used computer and he suggested I let him tune up my 5 year old computer--"that's not old for computers these days." I was skeptical, but let him have a go at it. The results were as promised. It is as fast as my new home computer and at a fraction the cost. Mike is a great guy and really knows his stuff. My laptop had a virus on it, and I brought it to Computer Guy. They were closed, but still accommodated me and tried to help. The owner (Mike) was so helpful, and I really felt he gave me honest advice, aside from helping me remove the virus. I am so glad I didn't go to Best Buy! Found mike the computer guy through my yelp search and saw all the 5 star reviews, he was local, and said let's give this a try after a poor experience with a previous computer service company in the area which I'd give 1 star. I sent a message to mike and promptly got a response from him saying how willingly and accommodating he wanted to be. How I never noticed his local location I'll never know as I've driven past many many times. Due to at that time a physical handicap, Mike came out to my car to bring my tower into the store. After meeting him, you just get a feeling he is a good guy to work with, fair, honest, personable , and most of all, unlike my previous computer service company, would be willing to help any time, any way. He had my computer up and running within a week even though I know how backed up he is, spent time with me as needed when I picked it up, addressed my needs over the phone over about 3 communications as I tried to reset it up at home and had some issues. He did a complete reinstall among other things, installed new free security, set it up where he can virtually take over my screen and address any issue I have without physically bringing it in, it's runs like a new computer, all for what I considered a fair price. I was happy to return here after having a good experience the first time. I had a wire loose on my laptop and Mike gave me a rundown of how much it might cost based on what the problem was when they opened it up. They were able to tighten the loose wire and replace some missing screws and got the computer back to me the same day so I could bring it on a work trip. I found this place on Yelp and chose it based on all the positive reviews; I wasn't disappointed. I was given a quote by email and then brought my son's computer in. The computer was not charging and after researching the parts I was told they would need to order it, which I agreed to (but not having paid anything yet). When the part arrived and they opened the computer up they discovered possible liquid damage. Jill called me and told me it was possible that the part may not fix the problem and still gave me the option not going forward at 0 cost to me even though they had already diagnosed and ordered and received the part. About a year ago I needed a computer fix quickly and I did not have the patience to deal with the big outfits.
