Screen replacements on newer Apple phones will cause a lot of issues that the seller does not disclose during sale nor want to remedy when inevitable issues arise. I have an Iphone 16 Pro that had a crack on the screen that increased in size over time. I did not initially want to spend over $300 on an genuine Apple screen replacement and opted for an aftermarket one. i found Sycamore Tech through Yelp, contacted the owner who scheduled me to come in the same day. Went to this business and had my phone screen replaced in a matter of 20 minutes. Prior to fixing, the owner even upsold me for a OLED screen for an additional $20 since the genuine Apple screens are OLED. After picking up my phone, the owner told me that I will have to calibrate the phone screen which can be done through the settings. I paid a total of $179. The same day, I noticed that the motion/movement while swiping on the screen was very harsh and not smooth compared to before. I also noticed that my phone battery was draining a lot faster along with the fact that the phone was heating up quickly. When I tried calibrating the screen, the phone would not allow it and gave an error message saying that it does not recognize the screen as a genuine Apple product. I searched the error code on Google and apparently it is a very well known issue. An issue that the owner never disclosed. A day or two later, my phone screen went completely black. Initially I thought that my phone was off (due to the battery draining quickly) and attempted to turn the phone on. However, I received a text message and felt the phone vibrate. A purple hue then started developing on the edges of the screen. My coworker immediately took a photo of the issue for me. Using my coworker's phone, I was able to secure an appointment with Apple the same day. After work, I went straight to Apple and told them the issue. The Apple tech ran a diagnostic test as done procedurally and even asked me "This is an aftermarket screen huh? I can tell." Apple replaced the screen, ran a diagnostic test, and everything functioned as normal again. The Apple tech also commented that Apple products are way too advanced today and gone are the days where you can buy aftermarket replacements parts. I paid Apple $350 in total to have my phone screen replaced. My mistake however, was not asking for the malfunctioning aftermarket screen back. I went back to Sycamore Tech and informed the owner of all the issues I had. I even showed him the $350 charge from Apple to prove that I was not lying or trying to game him in any way. His response? "Well yeah I mean it's never going to be as good as an actual Apple one." When asked if I can get a refund or even a partial refund, his response was, "How can I give you a refund if you don't give me back the screen?" I pleaded with the owner and explained to him that even I went back to Apple, I was not sure if I can get his exact phone screen back. The owner told me, "What kind of business would I be if I just started giving refunds to people who don't have a product to give back?" I pleaded with him again that I was not some customer who returned months later demanding a refund with no type of proof. I asked him to stand by his business and his product and again asked if. there was something he can do to remedy the situation. His response? "You should have came to me first." First mistake I had? Using Sycamore Tech. Second mistake I had? Not asking for the malfunctioning phone screen back from Apple. Third mistake I had? Coming back here thinking that the owner will right a wrong. An owner who does not stand by their product/service nor make any attempt to rectify their poor service is an owner who only cares about the money you're giving him,. Spend your money wherever and however you want to, I'm Just putting out my experience with this business so you won't make the same mistake.

This is one of the reasons small business gets a bad rep. Took my phone on a Monday in and Xavier told me that it should be done by the end of today. Paid full $140 (I was going out of town thursday). Called 4 hrs later before closing and he told me that I would have to pay extra for my finger print scanner to be fixed. Told me it wouldn't be done until Thursday I told him that I didn't need the scanner and he lied to me telling me I couldn't search through my files if it wasn't. Anyone would know the scanner for finger prints doesn't have anything to do with files. So he tells me ok come in Wednesday because he has to get parts. (They don't have parts stocked, I declined the finger reader keep in mind he said by today). When I Arrived Wednesday to get my phone, I came in and my phone wasn't even ready. So one of their other associates (Eric who doesn't work there anymore said that Xavier isn't even a tech and that this place doesn't run properly. Eric then promises me that it would be done by tomorrow before I leave. He tells me again "they don't have the part" he tells me call him in the morning. So I call the next morning an hour before they open and he sounds like he just woke up. I asked about the phone and he said "you can't rush me." I told him he told me to call him and he promised about my phone. He said he'll have it done before 10:30a (flights at 12a). I come in at 1045a and still "no parts." I was pissed off. How long does it take to fix a phone? Other places do it in hours. They told me to come back after my leave. I was angry. Came back following Monday (one week) and Eric quit, and my phone was still in pieces. I asked for my money back, and phone back I was angry and upset. Who takes a whole week for a quick service? Xavier promises me that he will have it fixed. Give him until the end of that day. He made me feel bad saying Eric left and they have all these phones to fix. He said he'll put mine as priority. Instead of the end of the day I gave them until the next because I had a feeling my phone wouldn't be done. ( didn't get a call by end of that day). Next day phone was done but home button was white. They said they didn't have a black one. Was promised to be called when they had in stock and they would do it for free by Gerald. Haven't gotten a call back since and it's been 3 weeks. 1 (should be 0) star bad service and unprofessional. I have been lied to more than enough. Even if they had the black home button I wouldn't go back. Worst place I have ever been to.

Then, on July 11, my phone started shutting off every 1-2 minutes and dropping calls -- something it never did before. I brought it back, and the man who originally worked on my phone said he was "too busy" and sent me to another tech. That tech said he would diagnose it, but all he did was force restart the phone and tell me to leave. When I mentioned the issue started after the repair, he got defensive, told me "don't say that," and blamed me for supposedly damaging the phone again. I later returned to speak with the boss, who told me to come back in 3 days. When I did, the same technician opened the phone and replaced the battery. He said if it was a motherboard issue, they'd have to send it out and charge me extra -- which made me uncomfortable since they were already denying fault. After replacing the battery, he tried to charge me $29, saying the battery was the problem. I refused to pay since the phone worked fine before they touched it. He eventually let it go -- but then asked me to leave four 5-star reviews just because I had family with me. I declined. The phone worked for 12 hours, then the issue came back -- shutting off every 2 minutes again. I texted them for help, and they ignored me. I took the phone to uBreakiFix in Santa Clara, where a real tech diagnosed motherboard damage -- a common issue from poor laser back glass repairs. They tried a new battery and charging port, but the phone still kept shutting off. The verdict: Talk N' Fix likely damaged my motherboard, and now I have to buy a new phone. When I dropped off the phone, they said they would call me for update 1-2 days later. I didn't receive any calls, so I called them and they didn't even work on it yet. 4 days later, I called again. They said they found the issue and would try to fix it. They specifically said they would call me back to let me know if they could fix the phone or I would need to replace the parts. Almost 2 weeks from the day I dropped it off, no calls at all. I called them and the staff there said I was supposed to call them and blamed everything on me. Before bringing my phone here, I called and asked for price. After 2 WEEKS of inspection, they gave me whole different price. They were unable to fix the phone at all and want to overcharge me to replace the part. It was a total waste of time and money. I paid $40 just to have it inspected and nothing was fixed. Staff was unfriendly and lied to customer. Make sure to have them write down the price when you drop off your phone or don't come here at all.
