5 for labor and delivery, 3 for recovery…read more I was admitted to be induced around 37 weeks after a spike in blood pressure wouldn't calm down. This was my first pregnancy, I was scared to be a mom, and thought id have more time. I actually hoped she'd be late! The nurses were all phenomenal. Knowledgeable, funny, personable, and brought me everything I didn't know I needed! Kind to my husband too. Never pushy, but let me know what my options were. I had been dead set against an epidural, but after about 24 hours of pitocin, I was over it. The anesthesiologist was also very encouraging and kind (and my mom, who works in a different part of the hospital, knew and liked him so that helped.) The recovery floor I found more difficult. They kind of bombard you with information as soon as you get there, and it feels very overwhelming for a first time parent. I wish I'd known to be a bit more assertive! I received minimal help with breastfeeding, and was very overwhelmed the second night when my baby just cried and cried. Turns out I wasn't producing enough for her (hello--induced!!) but the night nurse just acted annoyed with me and said that was what babies were like. I'm all about breastfeeding but she needed formula to supplement and nobody thought to suggest it. Luckily, we had a pediatrician appointment the day after discharge, and they noted her weight wasn't up to snuff. They (including their on site lactation consultant!) insisted we supplement with formula while I worked on improving my supply. My advice: you'll be treated a beyond necessary amount of good (in a good way) in labor and delivery, but be prepared to get very assertive in recovery! (Daughter was born in 2016.)

I had several issues with delivering here but will limit it to the major ones that lead me to…read morerecommending anyone considering delivering here instead go to Portland or Silverton. 1. I was discharged without my son properly latching and we ended up having major health issues, having to see a specialist and supplementing with a significant amount of formula because of a lack of information from the hospital. The only advice they gave was to work on latch. They gave no indication that my sons loss of weight was as big of a deal as I later found out it was. 2. The pediatrician was the only one who suggested supplementing with formula given my sons low birth weight and latch issues- when I asked for formula, as she recommended I do at discharge, the nurse was very unpleasant about it. Yes, "breast is best", I've heard- fed is more important. And so is doing your job in a non-judgmental manner. 3. My mother overheard the nurses discussing how they were unhappy that I was being induced and costing the tax payers so much money. They made statements about how I was there and racking up government paid bills. They clearly made an offensive and ridiculous assumption about me- whether they decided I looked low-income or are racists towards my husband, who's black. My mother let them know that we were both full-time government employees with private insurance, and that such financial considerations shouldn't be any be any of their business anyway. They apologized, but that doesn't mean much. My mother was offended and I was appalled when she later told me what the women who were supposed to be ensuring mine and my son's health thought of us. I'll never return and don't suggest you go here.

They also need to be able to do better criminal background checks to people who are wanting to work there for their own job and not to employ people who are criminally negligent on purpose and psychological testing on their staff to make sure they aren't risks themselves of ending up in the state hospital system itself. Also to make sure that they the Oregon Health Authority employs people who are qualified for the job and who are not going to abuse patients in the State Hospital by using psychiatric medications as chemical restraints and not to abuse the patients physically too because they are mentally ill and they probably don't understand why they are being abused and being treated negligently by staff. I as a Oregonian am very worried and concerned about this situation because I my self have a disability and also have an Autism diagnosis and other diagnoses which are OCD and ADHD and I am also on the states Medicaid OHP plus if I ever end up at the State Hospital I would probably go nuts there because they don't have good care of the patients there, and if anybody from OHA reads this I NEED YOU TO REDO THE STATES MEDICAID SO THAT I CAN GET ALL OF MY MEDICAL INSURANCE THROUGH KAISER PERMANENTE AND NOT HAVE MY DENTAL AND PSYCHIATRIC CARE SOMEWHERE ELSE BECAUSE ITS VERY TIRING AND TRI FOR ME . So please be understanding OHA so that if you decide to go ahead and contact me I will be happy to listen to your feedback and information on this issue and matter.

I had literally the worst time here of my life and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I got a false…read morediagnosis and was forced to take medications I don't need whatsoever. I was made to stay extra long for like no reason and the staff didn't care at all that I needed my own room and not to share. Staff are horrible there and don't make the experience any better. They just want to throw medications at you and aren't there for you at all. They have vending machines they don't let you use, even though I had management ask if we could it got turned down. They have countless policies making everything uncomfortable and no comfortable spaces you can go to and no private room for tv watching. Compared to other hospitals I've stayed at there wasn't a good common area to make you feel less claustrophobic and they didn't let us outside enough. They don't offer nicotine lozenges like I was able to do at another hospital and said I'd have had to just recently have had nicotine withdrawals to even get a patch, which I think patches are gross. They didn't listen to me at all about my medication preferences and literally called me schizoaffective for no good reason at all. And me begging them to listen to me about medication needs fell on deaf ears. They misplaced my belongings and I was not able to get those back either. The mats are extremely uncomfortable, the pillows are too low of quality. The clothes I got were horrible compared to a different hospital stay where the clothes were actually nice. They don't offer enough activities throughout the day which left me constantly pacing the halls trying to get through the day when everyone was rude there and not good to associate with. Again they refused to give me a room to myself. Also they do an awful job situating the other patients in a different section for higher demand patients which led to me getting attacked twice and threatened twice as well. One of the staff literally said to me he thought he could beat me up if we got in a fight. And another staff made a falsified account of me apperantly lunging at him when I did nothing of the sort. Worst hospital stay of all time. Epicly horrible place that takes you away from society and doesn't offer anything in return for being stuck there. They literally wasted over 5 months of my life telling me I was delusional for no reason. Their game is to just force feed people medication who really just have behavioral problems, to make it seem like they're doing their job. I mean I could really go on. They even went through my bag of things at the end taking things out and not letting me know or what the justification was, like a hackysack. Like why? And the items are overpriced at the market, leaving you with like no money for the week. They don't take you to the market often enough, nor the coffee place. The coffee they make in the mornings tastes god awful too. And the tea selection they had was so bad it gave me headaches. They have poor water quality and no bottle fill stations. They don't let you receive packages which was the first encounter I've had of that, so I couldn't get anything nice sent to me as a consolation like even a book or candy bar. The facility is so dirty and they didn't even clean the second room I moved to, it had messes everywhere. For someone with no problems I should've been in and out really quick but instead they failed me for my evaluation the first time and forced me to stay. The evaluations take too long to wait for. Then when you do an evaluation they make you wait forever for a response, unlike all my other experiences where you heard the determination right after the evaluation. There was no computer in the common area so you couldn't check your emails or do anything important like paperwork you'd like to get done during your stay. They are severely understaffed and have too many people staying there, leaving no chances for smaller group activities for someone like me who was getting overwhelmed with the amount of patients who all happened to be very rude to me. Worst mental hospital ever. Aside from one I stayed at where there were only reclining chairs in a common area to sleep on. This stay was even worse. I give it zero out of 5 stars. Avoid this place at all costs, and if you ever go to jail in Oregon, don't give them any indication of struggling with mental health bc if they decide to send you you will just get fed through a broken system and sent to a broken facility with terrible management and staff. Most horrible experience of my life ever aside from jail which the government shouldn't have jurisdiction to do to someone. I'm still fighting to get my medication prescription fixed.
