I went to the hospital on 10/15/26 and had back surgery. Despite it having a cookie cutter feeling, meaning they push us through like cookies, they still made me feel like they cared. Quality just keeps dropping in the ER. Every time I go it's an hours long wait and to not receive help for what I need. Once, I was left writhing in pain on the triage floor with a kidney stone for several hours. They just discharged me with pain meds; however, Kaiser urgent care said it was an emergency and the Kaiser urologist sent me back to the OR to have it surgically removed. read more

I am an amputee an have had several issues with my health, however today was probably the worst i have ever been disrespected at salem hospital in my life an I will never come back an I will discourage anyone I know from ever coming there as well. I finally cleaned up enough to venture to emergency entrance , but as I stated I had been in my truck for days an was dehydrated bad ,so as I was being searched by the nazis I asked if there was a vending machine close by, she pointed to a back hallway an vending machine is there an there is a Cafe in building d. I went to machine but couldn't figure out how work it so I came right back an asked where this Cafe was.an was told in building d, so in a wheelchair I went out into wind an rain , all the way around building tell I saw building c, I entered where was another security an asked if I could enter building d from this building an he said no started to go outside show me where d was an asked what I looking for I said im dying of thirst an have not had anything drink for 2 days I was looking for vending machine or Cafe where I could get something to drink. Went to the ER at my doctor's urging due to intermittent shortness of break and chest pressure after a long plane trip. My clotting tests were elevated. And I tested positive for Factor V Leiden, a genetic clotting disorder. Two of my brothers have had multiple pulmonary clots. The nurses at the check in window said it was good I came in. Triage nurse took my vitals with machines before sending me out to the waiting room. After about an hour, someone came to get me. I wasn't told where I was being taken until we arrived. I was being led into a room to get an ultrasound on my leg to look for clots. I explained that my doctor was worried about a pulmonary embolism and that my calf was not tender any longer. She told me to mention that to the doctor when I saw them and went ahead with the ultrasound. I was led back to the waiting room. After about another 45 minutes, someone came to get me explaining that the gal he had just called back was AWOL so he took me instead. He explained that I would be in a bed in the hallway. Eventually, a young man walked up to me and asked what he could do for me. I explained my recent plane travel, my symptoms, the lab work results, and my family history. He asked me if I had flown on Southwest and asked if the snack was Oreos. He asked to see my lab results so I showed him on my phone. I mentioned that I had lowered my cholesterol 30 points by riding my Peleton bike daily since December 2025. He asked me who my favorite instructor was. I told him it was Robin Arzon. He told me the ultrasound was negative for blood clots. I asked again about my chest pain. He said it was probably pleural effusion caused by the "crud' that's going around. I reminded him my D-Dimer test showed I was actively breaking down blood clots. He wasn't concerned. He said I could go home. At no time during this 5 minute discussion did this doctor examine me or listen to my heart and lungs even though he noted that my lungs and heart were clear in my chart. How would he know this???? No one ever put a stethoscope on me while I was there that day for chest pain and shortness of breath. And now I am sure I will be billed for an Emergency Exam. No exam was performed that day. read more

This is a review of the Salem Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy. The front desk person and the pharmacist were both rude and unprofessional, to the point where it was confusing to understand how they could be keeping their jobs. My advice to everyone is to avoid this place if you can, and support other pharmacies where they care about customer service. read more

What you don't want from a hospital is inadequate service from check-in to discharge, unprofessional behavior, poor communication, etc. Now what you DO want from a hospital is whole-person care, individual needs, communication, responsiveness, respectful staff, cleanliness and of course, (a)highly skilled doctor(s). My daughter got the last-mentioned and much more. Months prior to my daughter getting her surgery, she did tons of research. And locating a doctor who's not only a 'female doctor'- but one who's a die-hard specialist in her own right, was at my daughter's top of the list. My daughter lucked out when she met her surgeon who addressed her many questions, her needs and turned out to be the most professional and attentive. Located less than an hour from downtown Portland, Salem Hospital provided a positive experience, with friendly and helpful nurses and crystal clear communication when my daughter's checked herself in before 6am on the day of her surgery. The anesthesiologist asked all the necessary questions before surgery. I was a hot mess while I waited for my daughter because she'd be in the operating room for several hours. What made my nerves ease drastically were the constant text message updates throughout her surgery. Without those, I would've been a bigger mess. Salem Hospital feels safe, is clean, check-in was a breeze, waiting room is comfortable, a tv played quietly and there's a hot beverage station. Nurses turned out to be fantastic. My daughter searched for the best surgeon and she got it. As for me, Salem Hospital provided respect, care and delivered the best results at that moment pre, during and post surgery. read more

I was brought to the hospital today by ambulance because of severe diarrhea and vomiting, I was so weak and dizzy that I couldn't stand. They treated me with distain bordering on hostility. I'm being discharged without a proper diagnosis or treatment. They sent a prescription to Fred Meyer. I'm too sick to pick it up. I'm still contagious and my roommate has cancer and can't afford to get sick. It's 9:15 and I'm still sitting outside without a coat waiting for my ride from medical transport that the discharge nurse said she arranged. After two hours Medical transport never showed. Somewhere to go when you want to catch something, anything but quality care from the staff. 1 DR seemed professional but the staff was pretty useless in their waiting area with all the other patients being ignored. In 2023 paramedics brought me to the hospital. I didn't die, but they fabricated stories on the medical chart. The made it look like I was faking since they could not figure out what was wrong. I don't think they realized I had access to that part of the chart. Whoops. I was in a complete autistic shutdown/burnout and they had not a clue. As I mentioned, I didn't die -- but my doctor (the one with the great hair) commanded me to walk -- and not being able to walk was my primary symptom. Gave birth here in August and honestly it was awful, The doctor didn't know how to check my cervix on all fours but there was no way I was going on my back with the pain I was in, when she checked she said I was 6cm dilated then 5 mins later I was pushing my son out. the nurses weren't attentive to me at all they were in the corner talking when I'd ask for things my husband would try to help since they wouldn't then they'd see him get up and come over, mind you I was only in this room for like 20 minutes. All the nurses and doctors all left the room idk why but it was me and my husband in the room when my son decided to kick so hard he was gonna shoot out any second and I was pushing that call button for dear life they also told me to push hard right away, no thank you I'm not ripping my shit I'll push when I feel like I need it, they tried so hard to have me on my back to I needed more gravity and they wouldnt listen at first but I wasn't getting on my back so they raised the bed up which is what I needed to get that last push but definitely wouldn't give birth there for first time! First of all, I'm an 83-year-old woman who was just in the hospital for pneumonia. I just spent a week in Salem Memorial Hospital... Most generally the nurses the CNA's and all the helpers were absolutely amazing. Their attitude was positive uplifting, I did not feel well at all, their Joyful and happy faces coming into my room, they're gentleness at night when they had to take blood. All of it was amazing. There's not any one stand out that I can put in here because they were all stand outs! I was on the fifth floor room 5080 they were all magnificent... Except one, Alyssa was extremely cheerful when she came in full of smiles and caring until I annoyed her... I could not walk by myself. I had to have Help. She put her hands out and I grabbed one of her wrist. She jerked her hand away and said "don't touch my wrist. You'll hurt me!" being as unsteady as I was I reached out and started to grab the front of her shirt. She roughly took my hand and pulled it away! When I was trying to turn and adjust my walker to get to the bathroom, she said, "WHAT are you doing!" I was a little startled at the attitude... I felt she was rude and actually mean. In a situation where I think a nurse should be helpful and kind and understanding, Alyssa was not! Given all of the people who were there for the week I was there, they were fantastic! I would hate to think that Alyssa would treat all patients that way... She is honey, sweet until you annoy her, and then the rudeness comes out and the meanness towards your patients. I would hate to think of the way she treats some of the patients who are even more helpless "annoying" in her eyes. The rest of the staff was magnificent. I have absolutely no complaints at all, except for this one particular nurse, which is probably why she was so noticeable because everyone else was so kind! Even the ambulance drivers couldn't be more helpful and kind so Alyssa stood out in my mind! They're always seems to be "one bad Apple in the Bunch"... read more

A nightmare from the time I went through the doors! I am a Kaiser patient but the neatest Kaiser hospital is in Clackamas. I have extensive hardware in my neck from a surgery in 2020. I've never had an issue with it at all unti recently & Im having unbearable pain. To begin with, after sitting in the lobby for 3 hours I went up to ask if I'd been called. The nurse asked my first and last name, I told her and she said you're not even in the queue.. she then asked what name is on the wrist band they put on you at registration. Low and behold, it was not my name or birthdate. So she cut the band off. created a new one and assured me that she placed me in the queue for the time of my arrival. So soon after I was called in to triage for vitals.. then a few minutes later, I was called to the back and placed in a room. The RN was awesome very attentive and helpful. The doctor on the other hand was another entire story. He entered the room smugly sat down, crossed his legs and proceeded to tell me he had heard that I wanted a CT scan or an MRI but " let me tell you what an ER is for" & and proceeded to tell me about gunshot wounds, automobile accidents stabbing the things that anybody with a partial brain knows. What he didn't know is that I'm an RN so I interrupted him to tell him that. And told me to. follow up with my PCP. So back to square one as I have communicated with my PCP, who didn't really know what to do with my case. (requires a neurosurgeon.), so we got recommendations for tests from a neurosurgeon, which I've had two of the three most recently the CT scan one week ago that I was told may take three weeks to be resulted. From everything that I've read if the hardware has shifted or moved it is a medical emergency. So I still wait and hope and pray that nothing life-threatening happens.. but since this review was for Salem Hospital, I would recommend that you go just about anywhere besides Salem Hospital for the emergency room unless you really have a major trauma like the doctor was describing. BYW, I would give a 10 out of 10 to each RN I dealt with, a zero out of 10 for the person working in registration and a one out of 10 for the doctor simply because I know he spent several years in school and residency to be there. read more

Salem Health has become a monopoly in Salem Oregon. They contrpol most of the medical employees in Salem and the only hospital in town. They can deny services to anyone who has been an issue or who needs a lot of extra care. Decisions on patient care are often made by many non medical personnel who see $ as the goal of the care provider. The doctors and staff are responsible and care, but the administration could care less about patients needs only their profits. They are listed as non profit which is a complete joke. read more

Was in the hospital for three days. Because of an abscess. The dressing on the wound needed to be taken out and repacked every other day because the wound was in an area I could not reach myself. On the discharge order it said wound care would call me and set it up. They never called so I called them and it clearly states on my discharge order which has been highlighted in yellow by the doctor stating that the wound needed to be .repacked every other day. I was told by wound care that they do not do wounds like mine when the doctor clearly stated I need to go to wound care? So I have been scrambling around finally got my doctor to change the bandage after four days. my doctor set it up so I could get the bandage changed every other day at his office. my boyfriend went in for pain hoping to get a ct scan on his broken rib that he's had for years, and they diagnosed him with a viral infection that should go away in 2-5 days. he doesnt have a fever, they didnt do a throat or stool test to get this conclusion. he has a rib poking out his skin that is so clearly visible. the doctor at this hospital was just completely lazy. read more

Had a very good ER visit last night. Everyone I saw (which was quite a few) was very courteous and thoughtful. Before I even got to be seen by Dr., they already had labs ordered. I am a cancer, patient and here for a potential pulmonary embolism, and came to the emergency room due to having more severe complications and they literally do not give a shit!!!!! Since they monopolize care options in Salem, it means long wait times, multiple weeks out to get appointments. In Jan 2025 they decided not to renew their Regence Blue Cross contract. This meant I had to find care options in other cities. I have to say that my new orthopedic provider is BETTER than the one I had for decades. I can be seen quicker and the location doesn't take forever to walk from the parking area to the clinic. Same with laboratory and imaging services that I had to seek out elsewhere. It has been a blessing in disguise and I won't go back if they ever renew their contract. read more

My wife had to go to the ER. She was having extreme back pain. She was sent there by ambulance. I arrived a little later because I was working at the time. They had to put her in a bed that was out in the hallway. She was screaming in pain and people just ignored her. My daughter, who was there with her before I showed up, finally got someone's attention. The service, and the treatment she received was bad there. It's sad because the service used to be a lot better. I don't know what changed but they definitely need to change something. I went with my daughter to an appointment. the security guard in the parking of C is horrible. i have leggings on and a shirt. for what ever reason the stupid alarm goes off. he points to my chest and says i have to wand you and pat you down. i pulled my wallet keys and phone out of my pocket in my leggings and said no you dont. No strange man should be saying that and pointing like that. i was shaking when I got to my daughters appointment. This is not tbe first time i have had this happen . ive had it happen at the lab on State st as well. I was wearing a sports bra so it wasnt metal in my bra. Yesterday I spent 7 hours in the ER waiting room at Salem Hospital. I have pneumonia and was having trouble breathing. When I finally saw the PA, he was going to just send me home. I had to suggest that a breathing treatment might help. The RT that gave me the breathing treatment had been working for 15 hours! Why doesn't Salem Hospital hire more staff? This was my second bad experience with Salem Hospital ER. I should have learned my lesson after the first bad experience and driven to Santiam Hospital ER. read more

I went to the hospital with signs of strep throat and an ear infection. The PA provided me with an alternative to get out of there quicker by not checking the mouth swab for strep throat.In which I agreed " To hit to birds with one stone" They prescribed me amoxicillin. I went home and took a nap to be woken up to pins and needles in my arms,legs and not being able to walk or bend my toes. The symptoms only got worse, rash, difficulty breathing, ears ringing,tunnel vision, diarrhea, and my brain and ears numb. The MD came in and said that we need to run tests to see if a spinal tap is needed. I told the MD this has only happened after I took the medication. Didn't want to listen to me,and was going to go straight to a spinal tap. I told the MD no not without running tests. Didn't run tests, didn't run blood and sat in the medical chair, with hard of breathing for hours. I recommend Stayton hospital they listen, take your symptoms seriously and run the appropriate tests. I recommend never going here.The only reason I went here is because I recently moved from stayton from Salem and I needed medical attention right away. read more

First and last time I will ever go to Salem Hospital. Brought in by ambulance for abdominal and back pain like I've never had before. Was put in a bed in the hallway for HOURS without seeing a nurse or doctor. Was jabbed a few times to get a blood draw and was told at that time they needed a urine sample...had to hunt a nurse down after waiting over an hour so I could do the pee test. But then I had to sit with my cup of urine in my bed for another hour before I hunted down another nurse to give it to them. I didn't see a doctor until I had already been there for 5 hours. Had to beg for an ultrasound that I'm told was normal and there is no explanation for my pain. Total of 9 hours spent in the ER to be given a medication I cannot take and it was sent to a pharmacy that isn't open for two days?!?!?! I am gonna be stuck with a massive bill and still have to go to my doctor for help. read more

Salem Health has always treated me and my family with nothing but decency and respect. The biggest thing to remember is that 1. Yes, there is a long wait. That's because ERs get junked up with people who may not necessarily NEED to be in the ER but rather wait until Urgent Care opens. 2. It is not a doctors office. If you wanted to be seen in the order in which you got there, then you should have gone to the Dr. This is an ER (EMERGENCY department). The key word is emergency. So if you are there with a fever and sniffles and someone else comes in with a broken limb, then guess what, you will be waiting longer. Life before limb people. The bottom line is to treat them with respect, and they will return that to you. read more

From the reviews I'm reading here about the Salem Oregon Hospital, it looks like it's being run by the New World Order: ongoing neglect of older patients and veterans, terrible staff with crap-y attitudes who literally should not be in health care, and leaving patients in the hospital waiting room and hallways to suffer with no treatment at all. I also wonder if care is being determined by your racial profile (= if you're old AND white, forget about it). I also noticed there isn't a social media moderator who is responding to the hospital's Yelp reviews anymore. That is a big red flag. I guess the only way they will respond to your feedback is if you know someone on their Board or by filing a formal lawsuit. In the late 1970's, My mom was in the ICU at this hospital for over 2 weeks with a cerebral hemorrhage. By the grace of God, she recovered and was generally treated well by doctor's and staff. Based on the way two of my elderly family members have been treated here this summer (one is a U.S. Veteran), I wouldn't check my mom into this hospital today- I'd drive her myself to Tualatin or Portland. The $$$ profit motive has really impacted the level of quality care and basic human compassion. I'm also shocked that they are continuing to use PCR tests on patients to diagnose COVID-19, which have been proven to show false positives and were never designed to test for viruses. But if $$$ are involved, they will continue to follow the deadly CDC protocols. I just hope they're no longer using the deadly Ventilator/Remdesivir combo on patients. Remember: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed at the Oregon State Hospital. Looks like Salem Hospital has taken some detailed notes from that movie on how to treat their patients. I am so amazed at my recent visit see my father in ICU. The nurses and doctors were beyond helpful and communicative. At one point a nurse came in to provide warm blankets for my mom and me because it was a bit cold. The staff seems genuinely caring for patients. i hope others see how hard these people work to make a very difficult situation a bit better. Horrible experiences all the way around. I have been sexually assaulted by nurses and had my property stolen from me and sold off whilst still being a patient, contrary to their policy of not selling property until 30 days AFTER discharge. When I contacted patient advocacy, I was told that I needed to provide proof of purchase of property, and basically "sucks to suck." Secondly, the sexual assault: I was in and a male nurse had me pee in a cup, and although I could've done it myself, the nurse was there and he grabbed my testicles...for some reason. And other things happened with a female nurse, but I don't think they're PG, so I won't share them. I would never recommend seeking care from this hospital and I would avoid it at all costs because they honestly suck. read more

The staff are caring, professional, compassionate. But I wouldn't recommend the ED on a Friday night. Security staff while necessary can be overly aggressive, they aren't medics so they don't know what going on in someone's life. read more
