This took me 2 months to write this review. I still can't believe how it all went down. My sweet 15 1/2 year old girl whom I had the pleasure to take care of for 13 years (adopted her when she was 2). Aside from her arthritis, dementia, and the little lipomas she had growing all over her body... her energy level has always been the same as when I first got her and I really believed I had a solid 1-2 more years with her. One Friday morning, I woke up as per usual to get ready for work, come downstairs to let her out (she was pacing and wandering middle of the night due to her dementia so she gets zipped into her crate for bedtime) and she was sleeping facing away from me. She never ever slept facing away. I touch her bum to wake her as she wasn't waking up to my voice. The moment I touched her, she was cold and rock hard. I couldn't believe what was happening so I had to wiggle her some more and she was just so cold... that's when it hit me. I burst into tears... yelled out for my husband who was still asleep... (it was 6am)... and I had no clue what to do. I mean, I've never had to deal with a death of a pet before (aside from small creatures like fish and hamsters as a kid). My girl was 65lbs of flesh! Like what was I supposed to do? In hindsight, I knew I should have had an emergency plan set up but I just was in denial that she had plenty of time left. I had to google pet cremation services near me and this is where Compassion 4 Paws came in. Sorry this is a long review but then again all my reviews are long. I had wait 2 hours for them to open for business hours and so I decided to email them first. Someone emailed me back shortly so that really helped a lot to get some answers. I called when they opened and unfortunately because it was so last minute they didn't have an appointment ready until 2:30PM (I think, my times might be slightly off because this was 2 months ago). I asked what I can do to keep Delilah in tact so she doesn't go "bad"... I didn't want to keep her exposed because by the time I found her she was already bloated so I sat beside her blasting the AC. I got a call shortly after like an hour or so after the initial call and they said they had an opening around 10 something and so I got ready and loaded Delilah in the car and went over. I'm sorry I forgot the person's name but a super nice guy greeted us, my face was a mess from crying but he made the process so easy and I am forever thankful for everything Compassion 4 Paws did for us. They got Delilah ready in a room and we got to say our goodbyes for as long as we needed. I decided for the private water cremation and picked out an urn. A week and a half-ish later I received a call that Delilah was ready to be picked up. Everything went so smoothly and I just started bursting into tears when I got home and opened up the little package they created for me with her jar of hair and her paw print. Thank you SO MUCH for everything and making my first loss as smooth as possible, she was my soul dog and my best friend. I've used Compassion 4 Paws three times now. In-home euthanasia performed by patient, kind, understanding, highly skilled veterinary doctors is for me the only way I'll ever let my furry loved ones leave us. This last time our cats and puppy bore witness, and after sniffing the deceased they spent the day and night with us, we all mourned together and loved each other. It gives the whole pack a chance to understand what's happened to the packmate that they each have a complex emotional relationship with. I contacted Compassion 4 paws 3 weeks before my dog needed to be euthanized to make sure I would have everything ready when it was time to say good bye. I gave them my address at that time. Their website shows that my town is within their service area. They did not raise an issue with it at that time. At the end, when my dog's time had come, I called, and they told me I was way outside their service area. They had sent me an email 3 weeks prior, saying they would be there, then they refused. My dog died an agonizing death, and all I could do was watch and cry and tell him I loved him, while frantically calling vets to see if someone else could make a house call. I sadly had to contact Compassion 4 Paws last week to visit my home. I had read many many reviews about them and kept them in mind because of my aging pup. I was impressed from the phone contact to the appointment and follow up. Dr. Nicole was scheduled for my home visit. She was prompt and highly sensitive to the delicate nature of these calls she needs to make. She introduced herself and went through the procedures they use. She wanted to confirm we were comfortable with each step of the way. My daughter and son-in-law were here with their pet allowing their pet to say goodbye as well. I was able to hold my dog (Ted, a 17 yr old dachshund/poodle mix) for as long as I wanted. We were able to regulate how much time we needed without feeling rushed. On the 29th of November 2023 part of our Ohana departed this world. Her name was Kawena a 15yr old Shih Tzu. She was and still will be our shining light, who brought us happiness and love. On this day an Angel helped her with her Journey. Dr. Kelli came to us on short notice because we knew that our baby was starting to feel the bad side of her illness. This is the worst review I have ever had to write, but also the best. I am in complete shambles writing this, but it has to be done and they are just absolute angels. Like others have said I don't know how they do this but they are truly a blessing. My little guy Gahngpeh (Korean for Gangster) hated the vets. He was an anxious ball of worry every time we went. Even his very last visit, where he was just skin and bones from not eating and vomiting due to his kidney disease progressing so badly, I could tell he was anxious. Even as lethargic as he was. But I was told the worst news you could ever get as a pup mom. That his kidney disease had taken a turn for the worse and his heart murmur made it impossible to treat. It's been almost 3 weeks since he passed now and I still bawl my eyes out every night. I feel absolutely guilty I didn't do more sooner, but the doctor told me with kidney disease it can just nose dive down a cliff, and that is what happened. In comes Compassion 4 Paws and their team. I contacted another company prior to them and was placed on hold and told I would be given a call back. I then contact Compassion and was put through to Sheila right away who was able to set up a next day appointment. I wanted to spend more time with my guy, and enjoy every moment. However, with his condition I didn't want him to suffer more. As it was so difficult to watch him go through that. Worse than anything I could imagine for such a beautiful boy. Dr. Nicole came the next day and she was amazing. She walked me through the process and everything that would take place as well as what would happen during (however, absolutely nothing will prepare you for what happens during). He was so out of it and not all there so she didn't get much time to meet him other than pet him and just say how tiny and adorable he was. He was my first dog, for me, I had a family dog prior to him, but he was all mine and I treated like the first born he was. I was not expecting the paw print in clay, the nose and paw print in ink, and the hair clippings they provided. I wanted to do all of that myself for him but everything came crashing so quickly I literally had no time and I wanted to just make sure he was ok and not suffering. This whole process has been absolutely crushing, heartbreaking and left me so empty. But this company has gone above and beyond anything I could have ever imagined. They provided a grief pamphlet for after euthanasia, and I will likely have to contact one of the numbers on there seeing as how I'm still just struggling constantly. However, I am told I did the right thing and that he is not suffering now, which is all I want. I as well as the entire family love you G, and we miss you immensely. However, I know with this process, you weren't anxious, nervous, or scared. I told you the moment I got you I would hold onto you till forever, and I made sure I was holding you for your last breathes. We just had to let go of our sweet girl Josie on Monday. She had a very aggressive form of cancer that was pressing upon her esophagus making it difficult for her to breathe. Josie is my husbands dog, and ever since the first surgery to remove the tumor, he has been on deployment. Compassion for paws was very understanding to our situation. I was essentially the middle man between my deployed husband and Compassion 4 Paws. Scheduling was rough because with our schedules(his and mine), and our only form of communitcatikn being email, by the time he and I agreed on an appointment, it was either taken or he had to change it because his job would switch his coming home schedule around. So there was a lot of back and forth emailing/switching dates around between myself and Compassion 4 Paws. They were so understanding, through this scheduling nightmare. They always got back to me in a timely manner and did everything they could to accommodate us, which I truly appreciate. Dr Sarah was the one who we worked with when the time came. She came into our home with the up most respect for us and our fur baby. While she explained the procedure, we were able to sit with our dog, wherever we wanted, and listen to what was going to happen in the upcoming minutes. While my husband took the dog out for her last elimination (we were told sometimes at the very end the pet will eliminate and since we wanted her on the couch for the end we decided one last walk would be best) I was able to make the payments and sign any last minute things. As for the procedure: Dr Sarah gave Josie a shot which was a sedative. It took longer than 5 minutes for it to kick in for her. We were able to pet her and comfort her the entire time. Dr Sarah stepped away and gave us the time we needed with our family to cry, hug, and love on Josie for the last time. Once Josie was ready Dr Sarah came and shaved her leg and administered the final dose. It took another few minutes for her breath to slow even further until it had stopped. She came over with her stethoscope to listen for the heartbeat and when she could no longer hear it, she told us she was gone, and was sorry. We wrapped Josie in her favorite blanket and brought her to Dr Sarah's car and gave our final hugs. Letting go of a pet is one of the hardest things we will have to do. But I truly appreciate this service Compassion 4 Paws provides for parents. We were able to take the time we needed with our animal, and not once did we ever feel rushed. If we ever need to do this again, Compassion 4 Paws will be the first place I go to. And I would highly recommend this company to anyone else that treats their animal like a family member. We cannot say enough great things about the sensitive, compassionate, and knowledgeable care our beloved cat received from Compassion 4 Paws today. My husband and I both happen to be clinical psychologists and were so grateful to find a service that made this difficult time so seamless, loving, and peaceful for Twyla, our beloved old lady rescue Siberian who still displayed her saucy personality even with her failing body. Living on the tiny amount of food she could still manage to nibble and sheer will, she somehow managed her final hurrah: to climb from a chair to a desk to a sunny, wide window sill, "deciding" to go HER WAY, which Dr. Hagen intuitively understood, as though granting Twyla's last make-a-wish: to receive her first injection right there in the sunshine. Twyla showed no distress, then got herself down to the floor on her own where she promptly curled up. Dr. Hagen then placed her on the sofa next to me where Twyla soon drifted into deep unconsciousness as I stroked her and we played soothing music by Eric Satie. Without rushing the process, Dr. Hagen knew the right time to administer Twyla's final shot, and our beloved cat drifted from this life painlessly.
