My family has used Gental Hands before, and when my crippled dog looked like it was time, I called them. They came out and we talked and after they looked at my boy we decided to give him another medication and see if we could enjoy a few more days with him. That was a couple weeks ago! I've been meaning to leave a review for Dr. Jason for some time as he provided such great care to my dear Punky until the very end. I'm very grateful to have found Dr. Jason for Punky's initial quality of life assessment as we were concerned about whether or not it was time for us to say goodbye to her due to new symptoms arising. He informed us that she seemed to still be in fair health, and gave us suggestions regarding her medication regiment. After that appointment, he was very responsive to emails even after whenever I had various questions, seeking out guidance about how to care for Punky and navigate through the challenges with her dementia. About a year after, my husband and I had to make the most difficult decision to say goodbye to our beloved Punky since her health was declining. It pains me to think of that whole process and that last day we had with her, but we are thankful to have Dr. Jason there with us every step of the way. He was very patient and thorough as I had a lot of questions, wanting to know what to expect since this was the first time I've done an in-home euthanization and have been present during the process. I appreciated how he carefully wrapped Punky in one of her favorite blankets at the end, which was eventually returned to us after aquamation with Resting Waters in Seattle. Worst experience. I've had to take a couple weeks before I could even share my experience, but I do not want anyone to have to go through what our family went through during one of the toughest times we had to endure. Our dog is our family. He grew up with our three boys. He was a part of us for the last 13 1/2 years. When he got sick everything happened so fast. I didn't know what to do or where to start. I've never been through this. My friend gave me two contacts and this was the first one, so I called. It was a quick conversation, but he never talked me through the steps, what to expect for pricing, etc. He just told me to fill out a form online. I saw some service prices listed, but again I've never done this before. I didn't know I needed to scroll down and look at multiple prices let alone having to think about this while I'm overwhelmed and broken hearted. He sent someone to our house, and the moment she walked in she didn't even bother to see our dog she just sat and started talking about fees. It felt very cold and not what I was expecting. I look at my husband and could tell he was a bit overwhelmed and asked to give us a few minutes as we discuss what to do. She then blurts out there will be a cancellation fee if you cancel. This was such a turn off. We don't care about the money, we care about our dog. I called the owner to say how we don't feel comfortable, and he chuckled at me and started to raise his voice. He wouldn't even let me get a word in. He kept repeating how I should know better and his prices are listed. I tried to tell him that's not why I'm upset, but he wouldn't even let me speak. It was so bad I handed the phone to my husband and said you try. I just wanted to get off with him and be with our dog. He then continued to talk over my husband repeating this is a business we need to make money. My husband said that's not our concern, you're not hearing us. Of course we don't want their service after this situation. He wouldn't let my husband go saying he would charge us the same fee for cancelling. I think he realized how bad he sounded and changed it to what he thinks he'll charge. Also, you can't charge the same fee as the service fee for a cancellation legally. Either way we just wanted to get off the phone and be with our dog and family. We were left trying to figure out what to do. We called our vet and explained what happened, and they were shocked. They asked for the name of this company, so they would never give them as a reference to any family. They told us to bring him in. They were so kind and loving with our dog. They made us feel comfortable and cared for in a time that was so heartbreaking. They explained over the phone before we got there and did everything beforehand, so we didn't have to worry about billing while there. We could just spend our last moments with our precious dog. My friends that have had to go through this recently said their experience with other companies was nothing like this, and they were appalled what this company did to us and how they treated us. read more

My lovely cat Werner was in his 20s and had been having increasing difficulty for around a year. Around June of 2021 he took a major turn for the worse, with terminal liver cancer. Being a sweet little old man I wanted him to die as happily as possible, so I scheduled an appointment with Gentle Hands Cherished Paws, and they came out to my home. I shared a slice of pizza with Werner (giving him the sausage, his favorite part), then the veterinarian gave him a very gentle injection, and he fell to sleep, peacefully, for the last time. She was very helpful every step of the way and gave me plenty of room to grieve, and reassured me that I'd done the right thing for my little man. The veterinarian also collected a sample of his fur and put it into a little glass vial, and took an impression of his pawprint, and gave me some helpful advice for how to bury him in the garden; he is now resting forever with his favorite toy. I still miss my kitty a lot, but I'm at least grateful that he was able to have a happy, comfortable death. read more

In between all the appointments with various specialty vets and caring for our baby email was easiest. I had to put my best friend and my hero... my dog....to sleep a couple of weeks ago after a week of trying to figure out what was wrong with her to no avail, I only wanted her to stop suffering once I realized she was not going to turn the corner after I took her home. I also knew I wanted her to be at home with me when she passed. I looked up several end of life services and contacted Gentle Hands and left a message for Dr. Jason Goodwin. He contacted me back a few hours later. From the initial call I could hear the compassion in his voice and so I set a date with him to come out the following day. When he arrived my dog still trying to be the great guard dog she was started barking at him. He walked straight over to her and calmed her down with his kind demeanor. She ended up having an issue with her walking and none of the other vets she had seen knew what was wrong. He took a treat and did a quick range of motion test on her head and told me her neck was kinked or hurt in some way. This was on top of the other issues she was having. He was amazing! He was gentle, kind and explained to me step by step what was going to happen, why and what I could expect. I knew I both Magic and I were in good capable hands. Magic passed on my couch with her head in my hands, peacefully and without pain. I never felt pressured to hurry up as I believe Dr. Jason respected both of us and the process. He allowed me to stay with her and when it was time he went to get a gurney out of his vehicle. She was wrapped in a blanket and secured. We both took her to his vehicle. I also paid to have her remains saved so he took her to the place to have her cremated. I cannot say enough about the professionalism, caring and kindness of Dr. Jason Goodwin. This was the first dog I have ever had to put to sleep. I own a bed bug detection dog business and she built my business. She was truly my partner, and best friend. Dr. Jason is an angel. We had to say goodbye to our 16 1/2 year old baby, Tical, exactly two years ago. Dr. Jason was so compassionate and loving that it made the process a lot easier for our family...especially his baby brother, Buster the beagle. Buster is a very intuitive dog. He was totally at ease with Dr. Jason and knew that whatever he was doing was better for his suffering brother. Tical also loved Dr. Jason because there were no problems whatsoever. As we are traveling the country in an RV our 15yr old Jack Russell (Lexi) reached a point where her cardiac meds were no longer effective and she was beginning to suffer. We just had a wonderful experience with Dr. Ng (Dr. Jason's partner), who came to our home on Mercer Island for our 21 year-old cat - who had stopped eating and could no longer walk. She was calm and patient, explained everything, and made sure that we were comfortable that each step would be handled as we wanted. She gave us time and space to say our goodbyes , and our cat peacefully drifted off. As a nice little bonus, she offered to leave us with a paw print and a lock of fur as a remembrance.
