Let me provide some more context to my original review (below), because clearly, whoever responded does not know the full picture.
1. When I called this morning, I NEVER ONCE demanded to be seen. I was nearly in tears. The logic of needing to come into the ER, then wait to be referred, pay the extra money, etc did NOT make sense. If they have time for emergency consults, put me in the schedule and I'll pay the $500 consult fee!
2. The DAY that these symptoms presented (in May) my dog was seen by her primary care vet. Who then referred us to THIS VERY PRACTICE, who said due to COVID, she couldn't be seen for three weeks. We made an appointment, despite the wait, even though she couldn't walk. We were then able to find a neurologist, still very highly rated, who saw her next day and thus I cancelled the appointment with this practice. Never thought I'd need them again.
3. My dog has been through an MRI at Johns-Hopkins, endless blood tests, x-rays, and almost three full months of in-clinic rehab TWICE A WEEK to which she recovered nearly 90%. However, in the last week, she declined and is now unable to walk at all. She was promptly seen by her neurologist, and an electromyogram scheduled. However, this morning in my morning routine, I fed her which prevents her from being able to go under anesthesia therefore the test had to be moved to Monday. I have NEVER ONCE denied treatment to my dog. To quantify it, I have spent about $10,000 for someone to tell me what's wrong with her. We have sent her case to Purdue, UPenn, and UNC Chapel Hill for review all to be told she needs to come there. I called this practice today to get a second opinion and just SEE if they could maybe find something else that all the other doctors haven't found on physical exam combined with her diagnostic work.
For this business (whoever responded) to accuse me of ever declining treatment for my dog without even knowing HOW TO SPELL HER NAME should be ashamed of themselves. I wouldn't give you all a dime, and clearly, the multiple interactions we've had is the universe telling me not to bring my baby to your care.
Do better.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
"I just called to see when their soonest available appointment is to get a second opinion for my Golden Retriever who has been struggling with being able to walk for the past 5 months. I was originally referred to this practice and Dr. McDonnell in May when these symptoms first presented. The associates that I've spoken to have no sense of compassion or empathy. This practice is not ran as such, but ran as a money-hungry bait & switch scheme. I was told today that if I wanted my dog to be seen by neurology, I would have to pay $160 for her to be seen by the emergency vet, THEN the neurologist would see her and the consult is anywhere from $350-$500. Why, if my dog has been seen by 2 general care veterinarians, 2 emergency hospitals, 1 neurologist, and consulted with 5 universities does she need to go through emergency...again?! She's already had an MRI completed at Johns-Hopkins!
Show that you care - understand that there are emergent situations that you should leave a slot or two on your schedules for, rather than looking to collect an extra $160 and leave consumers with no option. It's totally bad business and makes the entire practice look bad. I just want one last person to look at my dog and tell me if anything can be done before I have to make the decision we all dread making. That's all." read more
