We came into Annapolis on our boat. Our dog needed veterinary attention and we were having a very hard time finding a clinic that would see our dog. We were lucky enough to find Annapolis Veterinarian Wellness. From the moment we called, to our arrival, they were welcoming, caring and professional. Highly recommend.

Edit: The response from the owner confirms everything I thought about this place. Disgusting way to treat people. Yes, my dog had heart worm disease because of my actions, I carry that guilt every day. It's your job as a vet to heal, not to rub salt in that wound. I took every action necessary to care for my animals- got every test and bloodwork you recommended and while I may have questioned a charge, I never complained about money, that made me lol. As for the vaccine claim, you didn't charge me for the new shot because you messed up.. that speaks for itself. Trying to belittle people will get you nowhere in the world. You are only defensive because of own lack of care and consideration. I reported you to the Maryland Vet board because I believe your incompetence will harm an animal, if it hasn't already. Your inconsiderate and HIPAA violating response is just another attachment to that complaint. The tech staff is very nice so I want to be clear they are not the problem. However, since Dr. Hamilton's retirement in May, there has been an inexcusable pattern of administrative errors and internal miscommunication that caused me to lose complete trust in them. First my dog was brought in for an incorrect heart worm treatment. Thankfully a tech caught what could have been a deadly mistake before the medicine was administered. Then during the correct treatment, where it is imperative the dog's heart rate stays low, Dr.Sims put my dog in a kennel. My dog has severe crate anxiety which I communicated to the techs and was ensured she would not be placed in a crate. My dog was inconsolable all night following that stay. Then my dog missed a booster shot that I asked for twice. We had to restart the vaccine. They did admit their error and comped the new 'first' shot. Then we brought our 8 week old puppy in for his first appointment and Dr.Sims almost gave him two shots he was not of age for. The only reason I caught the error was due to her previous vaccine mistake, I knew the timeline for the booster didn't make sense. Turns out his birthday was recorded 4 weeks too early. They never confirmed his age with me and it was also on the breeder's paperwork I gave them. Dr.Sims even tried to tell me I was wrong about MY dog's birthday. Another time, I was given two prescriptions where the dosage didn't match the instructions. I asked for Dr.Sims to check the math and was told nope, it's correct. I insisted on a double check and then they finally corrected and admitted I was overcharged by 22 pills. I only got refunded for half, but I digress. After that I had an issue with 3 techs giving me conflicting information about my dog's vaccination history. A vaccine that I never approved was in her records and they were trying to force me into a vaccine I knew she already had but wasn't recorded. Finally I asked to speak with Dr.Sims to voice all of my concerns above. She took no responsibility for any of the errors and instead played the blame game on her receptionists. That was my breaking point. My dog had her final treatment the day after that conversation and Dr.Sims did not communicate with me once. Instead she had techs call to give me updates and ask questions that should have come from a licensed vet. After ALL OF THAT, when I picked up my dog that day, her vaccine records were still wrong. I had to ask them to correct and print me new copies. To this day I don't have a clear answer on what vaccines they gave my dog. The "not my fault" attitude of Dr.Sims and the hospital's overall ignorance towards clinical records is both negligent and unprofessional. They exposed BOTH of my dogs to risk and it became a pattern and culture I could no longer ignore.

I Love this place. The Dr here is great! She cropped my puppies ears and they look great! Instead of using a scalpel she uses a laser.

Our anxious 9-year-old dog, Bubba, had been sick for about a day and a half--vomiting, not eating, and not drinking water. At one point, he seemed to be improving, but around 5 a.m. on Easter morning, he was panting and pacing. We knew we had to take him to the ER. We were especially anxious because of our past traumatic vet visits, but we called ahead and were told they were still working through overnight patients and to bring him in so they could monitor him. Despite how weak he was--we had been carrying him up and down three flights of stairs--he insisted on walking into the ER himself. They took him to triage right away, and after a few hours (less than we expected), we were brought back to a room. Dr. Fleury came in, asked thoughtful questions, and recommended additional testing. We shared our past experiences and anxiety, and she was incredibly empathetic and reassuring. She made it clear that she wanted this experience to be different from the negative ones we had before--and she truly followed through on that. She suggested we go home while tests were being run. A couple of hours later, she called with an update: while most results looked normal, they found fluid in his abdomen and a mass near his trachea. She explained that an ultrasound could provide more clarity, but it wouldn't be available until the next day. We could either bring him home or admit him overnight. Although we had never left him before, we chose to admit him so he could be monitored and asked if we could see him again first. She immediately said yes. When we returned, the hospital was much busier, but we were brought fairly quickly to a quiet, private room that seemed away from the noise of other dogs. Dr. Fleury reviewed the X-rays with us, and it was clear things were serious. When she brought Bubba in, we could see he had declined--his belly was distended, his eyes were glazed, and he seemed uncomfortable and restless. Dr. Fleury stayed with us, explaining that even after consulting with colleagues, they couldn't determine the exact cause without more testing. She also understood our concern about leaving him overnight, especially if his condition worsened. We were both overwhelmed, and she handled the situation with incredible compassion. After spending time with Bubba, we came to the heartbreaking realization that he was suffering, and the dog we knew wasn't really there anymore. It was the hardest decision we've ever had to make, but we knew it was time. We spoke with Dr. Fleury again and asked her to be honest about his chances. She explained that while more testing was possible, there were no guarantees, and he could continue to decline. Through tears, we told her we didn't want him to suffer any longer. She gently agreed it was likely the best decision and supported us fully. From there, everything was handled with such care. The staff gave us time, space, blankets, and quiet guidance through the process. When the time came, Dr. Fleury and a vet tech sat with us on the floor. My wife held Bubba, and we were both there with him in his final moments. It was peaceful, and we were able to say goodbye with dignity and love. Afterward, we were given as much time as we needed and were able to leave quietly through a side door. Later, we received a handwritten condolence card from Dr. Fleury, which meant so much to us. Losing Bubba was devastating, but the compassion, patience, and humanity shown by Dr. Fleury and the entire team made an unbearable experience feel as gentle as it possibly could have been. She set out to ensure this would not be another traumatic vet experience for us--and despite the heartbreaking outcome, she did exactly that. Our experience was nothing short of exceptional. We are deeply grateful we ended up here. While we hope we don't need emergency care again anytime soon, we know exactly where we would go and who we would trust.

She did tell us it was a busy night (when we got there--it was overwhelming to see the various cases they were dealing with), and said even if we don't decide to wait at their facility we should take her to be seen. We decided to visit this emergency clinic anyway, and I'm very glad they handled her with so much caution and care. The vet assistant who triaged us came back multiple times with updates after our puppy was taken back (~1hr) and thanked us for our patience. It's important to note that while we were waiting with (and for) our puppy, multiple dogs came in on stretchers. Dr. McCullen was incredibly thorough and reassuring, while also being practical and rational.. we appreciated the extra step in providing an estimate for our services to that point. Albeit our case was not as severe or life-threatening as the others we saw, we still feel like we made the right decision coming in that night and I'm thankful our puppy was in the care of the right members of staff. I know they did their best with what they were dealt with and I'm very appreciative for their kindness and compassion. Our puppy is doing just great now.

The staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty were amazing from the moment we walked in. They were extremely thorough while showing such care and concern for Duke. They explained what was happening, were transparent about the cost, and gave an honest assessment of the prognosis for our baby. Dr. S explained our options and gave us time to process everything. She answered all our questions and reassured us that there was no right or wrong way to go. Ultimately, we made the heartbreaking decision to let Duke go and she supported it, agreeing it was the kindest choice given his age, prognosis, and his current state. When I asked her what she would do for her own fur baby given the circumstances, Dr. S was transparent and told us she would do the same. That gave us a small bit of comfort that we weren't rushing into it prematurely. Dr. S gave us referrals to a few vets who could come to our home to help us with Duke's final care. We chose Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, who were equally wonderful during such a horrible time. We appreciate all of the staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty, from the folks at the front desk to the nurses and doctors. There were small things that I appreciated... when they brought our baby to us, they put down a plush blanket so he could be comfortable and not laying directly on the floor. Also, right before we left, one of the nurses even came in to say goodbye to Duke and tell him he was a sweet boy. She loved on him and that small gesture will always stick with me. I thank everyone for showing such love and support during one of the most difficult times in my family's life. However, at Annapolis it always seemed like I was paying extra time and getting less expertise. Recently I went in with my dog who had a growth on his wide and on his foot. They took a sample of the side and said it was inconclusive, but they were not concerned about it. The growth on the foot they just prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and said they were not concerned with it. Within a week we were in the Emergency Room and scheduled for surgery the next day. My dog had both growths moved as well as two toes. Both growths came back as cancer. Thankfully a second opinion got us ahead of it, hopefully. If we had stuck with Banfield Annapolis, it could have been much worse. Today we made the choice to cancel our wellness plan and move in a different direction. While I know we signed a contract that is year to year, they showed no empathy as to why we were leaving and still charged us over $250 to cancel. We just had to pay almost $8,000 to amputate two toes when they could have removed both growths when they first arrived and were minor. I know it is not fair to discredit an entire business or location due to one experience but to me we felt on an island and alone on this one, at the expense of our pet's own health. This isn't what you look for in a provider. Moreover, the wellness plan is a shame and every visit I was spending additional money. This place just made us feel like cattle. The care I received was subpar. Dr. Buchanan was not available I had an urgent situation. I saw Dr. Oliver. She recommended an unnecessary x-ray for my dog when you could clearly that he had no problems walking. initially I was upset that there may have been an issue but as the day went on by the time my appointment my dog was running and was fine apparently his leg was bruised however she ordered it anyway Ching Ching and of course nothing was wrong. upsetting part was that she ordered it before she even saw my dog! When she came into the room to tell me that nothing wrong she was telling me how to pick him up? How to handle him? what. when checking out she ordered two prescriptions for pain. My dog was not in pain! And I didn't request it. So basically I took my dog in for nothing and it cost $353. When I called the next day to file complaint I was blocked by the receptionist Dawn Sunstorm who made it very clear that she was in charge she was the supervisor and the complaint had to go through her. When I told her I would like the email of the owner she was very hesitant very defensive and became very angry and argumentative simply because I did not want to disclose my complaint with her. I told her that I did not want to take the chance that she would share it with a person I had to complaint with and nothing would be done. I imagine this is what caused her to get irate . I kept my composure but she interrupted me would not let me speak and then hung up on me. Either way I was the person that was upset and she could care less as a matter of fact the second time I called she had me on hold for quite some time obviously she knew it was me. And when she got on the phone without even saying hello and without me saying a word said that she didn't like my attitude and that she is banning me from coming back canceled me out of the system and said she had my email and would email the records! Still hadn't said a word at this point. She continued to say that she has the authority to do what she wants to do. This is outrageous to me and I can't imagine that someone would treat someone that way when they're the ones that pay her paycheck check. I'm glad to know that they do not need me as a client. I've spent thousands of dollars there and I've been with them for quite some time. Thank God there are plenty of Vets out there but I will miss Dr. Buchanan. I drove 2 1/2 hours to make that appointment. Absolutely zero respect. because she's been there for years her arrogance and her controlling nature appears to be overlooked!

Lo and behold, less than an hour later the office called me back and encouraged me to come in, they'd squeeze me in between appointments. I was so grateful that my pupper would be seen! We hurried over and he was taken back, assessed and the vet (Dr. Schmidt) came out to explain his initial thoughts, treatment plan and anticipated costs before proceeding. I was prepared to simply be handed a bill after the visit, so I thought the fact that he provided a detailed estimate was really fantastic. My male dog suffered severe cuts in his private area, between his legs, on his belly, and even on his ankle. My female dog was also cut between her legs and ended up with infections in both ears due to the groomer, Crystal. She tried to blame these injuries on "matting" and refused to take responsibility, even going so far as to suggest that my male dog somehow caused these wounds himself. Immediately after the grooming, cones were placed on both dogs. Crystal herself acknowledged the cuts while she was still working on my male dog, but I didn't realize how extensive the injuries were until I examined him thoroughly after she left. While my female dog's injuries were less severe she caused an infection in both ears by plucking her ears with who knows what infected and dirty instrument after I explicitly told her not to! My male dog's wounds were far beyond anything that should ever happen during a grooming session. What makes her explanation even more unbelievable is that the worst matting was on his chest, yet there are no cuts there. Because of this negligence, we had to rush both dogs to the vet, resulting in unexpected medical bills for treatment and medication. Both dogs were forced to wear cones for an unknown amount of time until they heal, causing them unnecessary discomfort. The vet was shocked by the injuries and agreed that what happened was completely unacceptable. I trusted this business to care for my dogs, and instead they were harmed. To make matters worse, Crystal denied responsibility and gave misleading explanations. This isn't the first time I've had concerns. On a previous visit, another groomer from this same business cut my dog's paws. I reported it to Crystal (she claimed he was a rookie groomer) trusting she would be more careful moving forward. Instead, she caused even more serious injuries this time. For the high prices they charge, I expected professional, competent care. I chose this grooming service because of their glowing reviews, but my experience has been the complete opposite. The owner, Mike Bass, didn't even have the decency to return my calls after the incident. Instead, he chose to block my number. I should have trusted my instincts after hearing how rude and unpleasant he sounded when I first booked an appointment over a year ago. And to be clear, I'm not a one‑time customer. I've been using their services since August 2024. He even fabricated claims that I had gone through four groomers before his company and that I complained about all of them. That is simply untrue. My dogs are only two years old, and they had one groomer before Pup Scouts Annapolis. This business takes responsibility for absolutely nothing. They immediately sided with the groomer, who lied about the situation, rather than acknowledging the harm done. Their pattern is clear: deny, dismiss, and defend their staff no matter what. I even had to repeatedly text Crystal just to get an appointment after the government shutdown affected our schedule. If she no longer wanted to groom my dogs for whatever reason, especially since she lives far from us, she could have simply said so instead of harming the dogs to avoid future appointments. Future and current customers deserve to know that this business refuses to accept accountability and prioritizes protecting their groomers over the well‑being of the animals in their care. What Pup Scouts Annapolis calls "transparency" is nothing more than shifting blame onto pet owners and past groomers.
