If you're looking for the absolute worst dining experience of your life, look no further! The moment I walked in, I was hit with a stench so foul I almost turned around, but unfortunately, I stayed. Big mistake. It took them five whole minutes just to acknowledge our existence and seat us, and then we sat there like fools for TWENTY minutes waiting for a drink order. Another TEN minutes just to order food. At this point, I should've taken the hint and left. Then came the so-called "food." I ordered a hard-shell beef taco, but what I got was a sad, gray, cold mess in a disintegrating shell. The second I picked it up, it fell apart like my will to continue eating here. Apparently, "hard shell" means "soggy disappointment" in this place. Thinking it couldn't possibly get worse, I went to the bathroom--biggest regret of my life. There was a dumpster-sized trash can overflowing onto the floor, and I swear to you, it looked like nobody had cleaned in years. Pee on the toilet seat, no soap, no paper towels, barely any toilet paper, and the water pressure was non-existent. At that point, I considered just setting my hands on fire because that seemed like the only way to truly sanitize myself. And to top it all off, I paid an outrageous amount for this garbage-tier experience. My stomach hated me for it, and honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. Absolute TRASH Mexican food and overpriced! Ordered the 3 chupacabra tacos, a steak burrito, Street corn with chips and salsa. The chips were soggy and old, the salsa was so spicy we couldn't even eat it, the "street corn" wasn't cooked fully and whatever they put on it sauce wise was awful... The steak burrito I should've taken a picture of because I knew something was going to be wrong with it by the way it was rolled... literally the steak burrito consisted of steak and rice. I was meeting a friend for a late lunch on taco Tuesday and we decided on Compadres. When I arrived, I went to the restroom to wash my hands and sat down at the bar as there was no one up front to greet or seat anyone. There was 2 employees in the bar area eating, and one lady on the phone behind the bar. Having a a long-time run in service industry, I always time how long it takes to be greeted, or even acknowledged. The employee behind the bar, speaking Spanish on the phone, finally brought me a menu after I sat there for almost 4 minutes. I received chips, no salsa. Around 5 mins, still no greeting, and she was still on the phone while the other employees were busy eating. At this time I have still not been asked what I wanted to drink or even given a water....at about 7 minutes, I left and told my friend to meet me at 4 Locos Tacos where I know service wouldn't be an issue. I typically don't write reviews like this, however, I hold a higher Standard to Compadres because I was a frequent customer at the location downtown and never had any experience remotely close to this one. I hope this helps to improve their service and customer experience....BTW, our tab at 4 Locos Tacos was almost $200, at 3 in the afternoon, and their prices are much better. read more

I've eaten here and at the S. Main store several times. The food is good, the ingredients are fresh, and the staff is genuine and friendly. There are many choices from entrees to desserts--nachos, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, combo meals and more. The prices are higher than similar Mexican restaurants in town, but not exceedingly so. The Mexican music is a little loud but other than that, the acoustics are good and you can have an easy conversation. There is plenty of parking in the strip-mall's lot. read more

So for $30, I went away hungry and disgusted. the waiter was doing all he could. he just needed help. all the numerous help were either sitting in the kitchen talking or attending to the bar patrons. Instead of making the issue right with the customer she told us she was going to make us pay for it whether we wanted to argue with her or not or she would call the police. Three words: Oh My God. I've always been a fan of this place. This time we seated ourselves and our server was there to take our drink orders almost immediately. Entrees came out within 15 minutes or less. I ordered the Poblano Quesadilla with steak and it was amazing. The steak was juicy, tender and flavorful. The chipotle sauce was subtle with just the right amount of heat and just enough flavor to enhance the dish without overpowering it. The grilled onions and peppers were garden fresh. This was probably the best thing I've eaten all month. The atmosphere is clean, tastefully decorated and appropriate for any occasion. I would come here for a quiet date night, after work happy hour, family dinner with small children, or Sunday after church lunch. This place is the real deal. Fresh and flavorful dishes, prompt and friendly service.. My pregnant wife wistfully recalls that the margaritas are excellent as well. Very disappointing. Waitress took our order, soup, tacos, enchiladas and when he good came back we got all at one time. Normally, the soup comes first and once you are done the rest comes out, but not here. We asked why we got all at one time and the answer came back, "you ordered everything at the same time"! Isn't that normally how you order your food??? Next, my taco was the saddest thing ever. A cold tortilla that never saw a warming dish or pan, some onion pieces and a few strips of dry chicken. My husband's enchilada was a mess thrown on top of his tortilla. He asked if he could have some sour cream and was told, "yes, as a side dish". Only one word comes to mind when trying to describe the food of Compadre's: bland. First, let's discuss the service. The waitress was quite friendly, was quick with serving and getting our orders and was very pleasant. The restaurant has no flaws as far as that goes. Unfortunately, that's the extent of the positives. We visited during lunch hours, and the place was empty for good reason. Every last piece of food they churned out was bland and overcooked. No seasoning in the sauces, no seasoning in the rice, and for some ungodly reason even the queso was bland which is a rather impressive feat. The food was overpriced for what it was. $10 for a sauceless burrito with overcooked and dry rice, flavorless beans, and stale sour cream. Other people at the table had rice which seemed to be fine, but like everything else lacked seasoning. Also to note, we were charged for the chips that typically come free while waiting on our food. We didn't have multiple baskets of them, just one; yet we had to pay for them. My advice? If you want to experience good mexican food, avoid this place and go to Monterrey's over by Haywood Mall or the one in Taylors. Both have drastically better food, cheaper prices, and an atmosphere that doesn't feel dreadful. read more
