Compardre's has the typical Mexican ambiance, lots of reds and yellows. Pots filled with cactus and yuca plants. Lots of pottery around. Service is rather slow. Although we were assured that was due to a large party on the other side of the restaurant. But I didn't see them. The kitchen seems to be under staffed. Lots of customers waiting for food Keep bringing chips to keep people here. But almost an hour passed with no food. When it finally arrived the food was actually very good. So if you are willing to wait the food is good. read more

I used to come here when they first opened but I moved and came back and was excited to try this place again! Overall, the menu looked the same from what I remembered. The service was good and we didn't wait long to get sat. I asked for the spicy salsa and it was pretty good as well. The food itself was ok. Nothing super special or outstanding but it wasn't bad at all. I got the burrito and it tasted rather plain. I felt like it just needed a little something else. Not my go to for mexican restaurant but it's nice that it's at this location since there really isn't one close by. read more

I love this place!! Everyone is so friendly and the food is always delicious. This is my go to Mexican place!

If you're looking for the absolute worst dining experience of your life, look no further! The moment I walked in, I was hit with a stench so foul I almost turned around, but unfortunately, I stayed. Big mistake. It took them five whole minutes just to acknowledge our existence and seat us, and then we sat there like fools for TWENTY minutes waiting for a drink order. Another TEN minutes just to order food. At this point, I should've taken the hint and left. Then came the so-called "food." I ordered a hard-shell beef taco, but what I got was a sad, gray, cold mess in a disintegrating shell. The second I picked it up, it fell apart like my will to continue eating here. Apparently, "hard shell" means "soggy disappointment" in this place. Thinking it couldn't possibly get worse, I went to the bathroom--biggest regret of my life. There was a dumpster-sized trash can overflowing onto the floor, and I swear to you, it looked like nobody had cleaned in years. Pee on the toilet seat, no soap, no paper towels, barely any toilet paper, and the water pressure was non-existent. At that point, I considered just setting my hands on fire because that seemed like the only way to truly sanitize myself. And to top it all off, I paid an outrageous amount for this garbage-tier experience. My stomach hated me for it, and honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. Eat here at your own risk. read more

Absolute TRASH Mexican food and overpriced! Ordered the 3 chupacabra tacos, a steak burrito, Street corn with chips and salsa. The chips were soggy and old, the salsa was so spicy we couldn't even eat it, the "street corn" wasn't cooked fully and whatever they put on it sauce wise was awful... The steak burrito I should've taken a picture of because I knew something was going to be wrong with it by the way it was rolled... literally the steak burrito consisted of steak and rice. NOTHING ELSE... with seasoned-less steak and plain tasteless rice. The 3 chupacabra tacos looked incredible but again didn't have a taste, was super bland and had the same tasteless steak on it like the burrito. Overall not happy with the way this food tasted and wouldn't recommend going here. read more

I've eaten here and at the S. Main store several times. The food is good, the ingredients are fresh, and the staff is genuine and friendly. There are many choices from entrees to desserts--nachos, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, combo meals and more. The prices are higher than similar Mexican restaurants in town, but not exceedingly so. The Mexican music is a little loud but other than that, the acoustics are good and you can have an easy conversation. There is plenty of parking in the strip-mall's lot. read more

This was take out: Food was good. We had a large order so I knew it would take awhile. We were trying to explain what we needed and there was some miscommunication, that's ok, we knew our order was alot. After food started coming out I explained that we still needed 4 tacos. We said 4 extra tacos several times. The woman that took our order seemed to understand. She repeated it. She brought 4 more COMBOS. The guy standing there with her said in Spanish that we just wanted single tacos, she smiled at him and shrugged her shoulders. We heard him, we understood him. My daughter can understand Spanish but is not fluent enough to speak it. I paid for all 8 combos because at that point, I just wanted to go home. Advice: don't get over on your customers because you think they won't understand. We will not be back. Also, I checked my bank account today and it would seem they helped themselves to a 10.00 tip I didn't authorize. Disgusting practices and now theft. read more

I was meeting a friend for a late lunch on taco Tuesday and we decided on Compadres. When I arrived, I went to the restroom to wash my hands and sat down at the bar as there was no one up front to greet or seat anyone. There was 2 employees in the bar area eating, and one lady on the phone behind the bar. Having a a long-time run in service industry, I always time how long it takes to be greeted, or even acknowledged. The employee behind the bar, speaking Spanish on the phone, finally brought me a menu after I sat there for almost 4 minutes. I received chips, no salsa. Around 5 mins, still no greeting, and she was still on the phone while the other employees were busy eating. At this time I have still not been asked what I wanted to drink or even given a water....at about 7 minutes, I left and told my friend to meet me at 4 Locos Tacos where I know service wouldn't be an issue. I typically don't write reviews like this, however, I hold a higher Standard to Compadres because I was a frequent customer at the location downtown and never had any experience remotely close to this one. I hope this helps to improve their service and customer experience....BTW, our tab at 4 Locos Tacos was almost $200, at 3 in the afternoon, and their prices are much better. read more

I thought this place was great. It was nice to get a taco salad without that runny cheese all over it, turning it into taco soup. The beans and rice were delish, and the service was outstanding. Only reason I've giving 2 stars instead of one is because in the past we had 'OK' experiences. We (my husband and I) went to Compadre's tonight around 6. We were sat within 5 minutes, but no one came to the table for 10 minutes. No chips, no drinks, nothing! Not to mention it was HOT inside. Two waitresses walked by our tables and did not even acknowledge us. We decided to get up and go next door for dinner and as we got up and walked out the staff literally just stared at us. I think customer service is EVERYTHING for restaurants right now. We will not be returning! read more

I cannot fathom why this place has 2.5 stars while Nazarios has a solid 4. This is a solid Mex mex restaurant. An easy litmus test for me when it comes to a Mexican restaurant is the beans and rice. A solid Mexican place in the typical style. Friendly service. Decent food. I got the pollo fundido and was surprised that it wasn't shredded chicken rolled in tortillas, but a slab of chicken with grilled onions. They offered tortillas on the side. Flavor was good. read more

Worst meal I have ever had there. Used to be so good. was our favorite place. tonight we got there at 5 and only one other family seated and eating. I ordered chicken fajitas. The meat came out, no rice, toppings, or tortillas. asked for other items. rice was brought to table cold. meanwhile our other order of a bean burrito sat at the counter not being delivered. problems with rice straightened out. still no tortillas. by the time i got everything my onions, peppers and tomatoes were just soggy. chicken cold. it was awful. blonde guy behind counter even admitted he would not want to eat his fajitas that way. other order of bean buritto was completely cold. the restaurant quickly filled and we were forgotten about and given the bill. tried to overcharge us with tortillas! got bill taken care of. should have been comped or at least discounted for the awful fajitas and the bean burrito. So for $30, I went away hungry and disgusted. the waiter was doing all he could. he just needed help. all the numerous help were either sitting in the kitchen talking or attending to the bar patrons. Five star now a 1/2 star if I was being honest! read more

Manager was extremely rude and was very aggressive. She charged us for food my husband could not eat because her employee misunderstood the order. Instead of making the issue right with the customer she told us she was going to make us pay for it whether we wanted to argue with her or not or she would call the police. She said she had to waste food so we had to pay for it, so we had to waste our money on this horrible experience. She had an attitude from the beginning of the conversation and refused to listen to our explanation. Will not be going back and will be sharing our experience on all platforms. read more

Well, where do I start? Perhaps my best advise would be ~ don't go!". That had to be the worse Mexican meal I've ever had. Not to mention the place was a total wreck. I knew we were in trouble when our shoes stuck to the floor as we entered the restaurant. We were seated at a table and then asked to move to another table, which was fine. Our waitress arrived quickly, brought us chips and dip, took our drink order and told us about the Sunday Buffet! A Mexican buffet~you've got to be kidding! All you could eat for $8.99! This I've gotta see. I walked over to the location where they rolled the make shift buffet and lord have mercy! It looked liked a pile of mess in every container. There wasn't anything identifying the food so your guess is good as mine! I just have one question ~ is fried pork skins really Mexican? You guessed it, I opted out on the buffet and decided to order from the menu. How bad could a taco salad be, right? Well, still not sure if the meat was a combo of freezed dried make believe beef and mystery meat or a combo of mystery meat and freezed dried make believe beef. None the less - I was wrong. It is possible to mess up a salad. As we paid our bill ~ we all agreed that this was our first and last. So long not real Mexican #mysterymeat read more

Three words: Oh My God. I've always been a fan of this place. This time we seated ourselves and our server was there to take our drink orders almost immediately. Entrees came out within 15 minutes or less. I ordered the Poblano Quesadilla with steak and it was amazing. The steak was juicy, tender and flavorful. The chipotle sauce was subtle with just the right amount of heat and just enough flavor to enhance the dish without overpowering it. The grilled onions and peppers were garden fresh. This was probably the best thing I've eaten all month. The atmosphere is clean, tastefully decorated and appropriate for any occasion. I would come here for a quiet date night, after work happy hour, family dinner with small children, or Sunday after church lunch. This place is the real deal. Fresh and flavorful dishes, prompt and friendly service.. My pregnant wife wistfully recalls that the margaritas are excellent as well. We are both Mexican dining connoisseurs, and we both agree that anyone would be hard pressed to find a better Mexican grill dining experience in the Upstate. read more

Ate here with a friend for the second time deciding to give the restaurant a chance to redeem itself. Huge mistake. Worst Mexican food I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot. Took the server 20 minutes just to get our drink orders. Ordered a queso dip which took another 15 minutes. It was small, burned on the sides and cold in the middle. The complimentary salsa tasted like tomato water. Finally placed our meal order. I ordered chicken tacos with rice and beans. Taco shells were soggy. The tiny bit of chicken was dry and tasted old. Beans and rice were cold. The guacamole salad was in a tortilla shell that tasted like stale cardboard. I probably wouldn't write this review if the customer service wasn't so terrible on top of the expensive, terrible food. Lunch time and the restaurant was practically dead. It's a shame that such a nice building and setup could be ruined by crap food and service. Will never spend money here again nor recommend to anyone I actually like. read more

4/5/18 Update: Sadly due to a poor location in my opinion, this restaurant has closed. Really great mexican food! The buffet is pretty tasty & now they even make hot toritllas layered with meat, veggies & egg while you wait. There is however NO melted cheese dip on the bar.. maybe on the menu but not on the bar. Compadre's Mex Mex Grill - massive 12 inch shredded chicken burrito with, cheese, lettuce, black beans, rice, and sour cream - Mexican Near Me - Greenville, South Carolina

Very disappointing. Waitress took our order, soup, tacos, enchiladas and when he good came back we got all at one time. Normally, the soup comes first and once you are done the rest comes out, but not here. We asked why we got all at one time and the answer came back, "you ordered everything at the same time"! Isn't that normally how you order your food??? Next, my taco was the saddest thing ever. A cold tortilla that never saw a warming dish or pan, some onion pieces and a few strips of dry chicken. My husband's enchilada was a mess thrown on top of his tortilla. He asked if he could have some sour cream and was told, "yes, as a side dish". Bad choice coming here with so many good Mex restaurants in Greenville. read more

To quote my great nephew, "Me no likey." Service was slow...had to ask twice for more salsa and never offered refills on drinks. The deal breaker, though, was that food was served almost room temperature. Why the server wore gloves is beyond me. No likey, no come backy. read more

Only one word comes to mind when trying to describe the food of Compadre's: bland. First, let's discuss the service. The waitress was quite friendly, was quick with serving and getting our orders and was very pleasant. The restaurant has no flaws as far as that goes. Unfortunately, that's the extent of the positives. We visited during lunch hours, and the place was empty for good reason. Every last piece of food they churned out was bland and overcooked. No seasoning in the sauces, no seasoning in the rice, and for some ungodly reason even the queso was bland which is a rather impressive feat. The food was overpriced for what it was. $10 for a sauceless burrito with overcooked and dry rice, flavorless beans, and stale sour cream. Other people at the table had rice which seemed to be fine, but like everything else lacked seasoning. Also to note, we were charged for the chips that typically come free while waiting on our food. We didn't have multiple baskets of them, just one; yet we had to pay for them. My advice? If you want to experience good mexican food, avoid this place and go to Monterrey's over by Haywood Mall or the one in Taylors. Both have drastically better food, cheaper prices, and an atmosphere that doesn't feel dreadful. read more

The food was fresh, lovely, and made to order. I see some complaints about the food taking a long time, it was not thrown at us as soon as we ordered, as is typical of Mexican restaurants, because... it was fresh and made to order. We were very pleased with the food. We did run out of salsa, as the dish you are given is very small, and had to ask for more, it was brought promptly. Our waters were not refilled promptly either, so service needs a bit of improvement, but that's all. We enjoyed it! read more
