A March 2015 Queens Chronicle article about the Samuel Field Y's acquisition of the Deepdale Community Pool piqued my interest (I live about a mile away). I went to the Samuel Field Y website, read the information about the pool including hours, fees, etc., then visited the Y to obtain some guest passes. The Y's ,business office attempted to help, but was clueless. They sent me across the street to the pool's business office. The business office was a few teenagers who told me I had to be a member to get passes. They were unfamiliar with the website. The slightly older manager indicated it was a private pool. Very frustrating and aggravating. I thought the Y was a better run organization.

They have various programs throughout the week and they also offer full day services for when school is out. The only downsides to me are: A. They could have more learning related activities or choices for parents to select from. B. Not really a downside but something to be aware of is that they are closed on some Jewish holidays when school is in session. The plus side is that they do offer a summer camp that our little one really enjoyed. The counselors who work in the after school may also be counselors in the summer so it does offer some continuity for the kids where they can see similar faces and friends.

Those were all appetizers, then we got to choose our main dish, chicken, seafood paella or a meat paella. I got the meat paella, my dad the seafood paella and my mom the chicken dish. We got to choose from almond cake, flan, tartufo or chocolate cake. I got the flan and it was the perfect size. It was sweet and caramel-y. Just what I needed to end this special dinner.
