This has the potential to be the most poorly designed theater I've seen in my entire life. The bar (and merch tables) in the lobby create an unusable passage with people trying to come in the front doors, trying to get drinks/merch and you can never tell which line is for what. They have like 3 toilets for the entire venue and you'll spend a chunk of your time waiting in line. I think the restrooms are original to the building (1920s) The sound system looks to be Meyer Leopard arrays with 900-LFCs and Rivage PM5 for the house console - so that's ripping! I've been to this venue a few times for different events, (comedy or a concert) and all times have been very pleasant. The seats are comfortable and the view from the seats on the ground level are all decent. I've been where we sat at the last row on the ground level and I've visited where we had seats closer to the stage. The lines aren't crazy long, and the security works pretty quickly to move things right along. They do sell cocktails and snacks. I love that this venue is right in the middle of the city with plenty of public tranportation options. The fees have always been reasonable and cheaper if you pay at their box office. This is definitely a venue I would attend future events at based on my prior experiences. read more

People like this man are the reason going out in NYC midtown to see a show is a loathsome, miserable, soul-sucking experience. It's like being marched to Buchenwald just to go see a show. He spoke to everyone in the balcony like we were hapless kindergartners and almost lost his composure when a few of us couldn't figure out our poorly printed seat numbers. Perhaps suffering from nicotine withdrawal? Either way, not my problem. If you're his boss, tell him how to do his job right. We're paying customers. This isn't Judgment at Nuremberg. Wonderful staff! So wonderful to get a little insight of the history of this wonderful theater. Staff is very eager to share & and they've had lots of opportunities to meet all kinds of people. They really enjoy this! I don't think there was a bad seat in the house. I could see the stage very well, and my seat was very comfortable. The restrooms were centrally located. No waiting. Very tidy. I enjoyed the snack bar and merchandise tables so much. How wonderful we were able to enjoy lovely teaching a meditation from Gen-la Dekyong. She is a no deed none in the Kadampa Modern Buddhism Tradition. She is like the pope of this Buddhist tradition and she's a woman. She's a gentle woman, and she really shares her vast knowledge as one of Geshle's original students in the UNITED kingdom 40 + years of practicing education, tourism . Fun and enlightening!! Such a wonderful evening. This teaching was called "a life without fear " & she gave such profound wisdom with us all. It was nice to see a souvenir on the wall. Pictures in frames of starts that recorders and performed here. Gorgeous!!! I would love to return again. read more

I've been to Town Hall twice, both experiences were good/decent. The staff is incredible, everyone is really friendly from the bouncers outside to the bartenders inside. It's a straightforward theater so it's pretty easy to recognize where you need to go, but of course there is staff to help you to your seat anyway. The seats. The seats completely derail me everytime in these theaters. I'm sure there is not much that can be done as they want to keep their historical presence, but it's worse than an airplane seat. If you struggle to get comfortable in an airplane you'll surely struggle here. For a tall person, it's worse than an airplane seat, your knees WILL be in the person in front of you's neck, at least in the balcony. I am 5'8" and my legs were at an uncomfortable 45 degree angle with knees against the top of the seat in front of me. We are just built bigger than people were back then, and it makes those theaters really hard to get comfortable in. I was lucky enough to sit in the front row on my first visit, and that was much better when it comes to leg room. I didn't like the cocktail I got which was disappointing because it was $24!!!! It comes with a cute cup but it definitely wasn't worth it, I only had 3 sips. I think the bartender was heavy handed with the alcohol, which is a plus for some I guess. To be on the safe side and not waste your money, you might want to go with something that you know the taste of, like a beer or wine, but you'll still have to buy the cup (and you'll get $6 off the next pour). Overall it's a good experience, I've had a front row view and I've had a balcony view and both were great in terms of visibility. read more

Town Hall is a beautiful historic theater that is unbelievably disorganized. They have had a lot of time to get it together so I am absolutely shocked at the pandemonium we experienced there. I was seated near the front of the balcony and I was super impressed by the ushers showing everyone where their seats were located. The ushers were super knowledgeable and friendly and nobody would have been able to find their seats without them as there was no signage or numbers. The only reason I am giving greater than one star is because the place was beautiful and the ushers were amazing. The merch table was right inside the entrance causing quite a bottle neck. People were having difficulty getting in the building and difficulty determining where the beginning and the end of the merch line was located. During intermission it was impossible to ascertain where the bathroom line was located and where the snack/drinks line was located. I was in complete shock that there is not a ladies room or a unisex bathroom downstairs. We were seated on the side closest to the unisex bathroom upstairs and it was super confusing. The snack line was going up the stairs and people were shouting about the location of the bathroom and the location of the end of the line for snacks/drinks. I get it is an old theater with very few bathroom stalls, but some signage, ropes, and/or staff could have helped with the chaos. read more

I went to Town Hall for the first time recently, for Nymphia Wind's debut NYC show. The venue is beautiful and full of so much history! I've heard that the theater was built so there's no bad seats in the house. My seat is on the back / side of the orchestra and I still had a great view. I'm not sure if the same is true of the balcony. The only times I couldn't see the performances were when performers went off the stage and into the audience. The seats are small and not very comfortable, but this wasn't a huge issue for me. Nymphia Wind was AMAZING by the way! I hope she will return to Town Hall someday! read more

Just got out from here watching a comedy show by Dusty Slay and a couple other opening acts. Fun show, lots of laughs! Tickets were not that expensive and we were in the 5th row from front in the orchestra section so had a really good view of the comics. Seats were comfortable although it was a bit warm inside. Later when waiting in the queue for the restroom we noticed they had a window open and the air felt good. It's been a warm day in the upper 70s so definitely need the cool air. Restroom was clean. It's not a huge theater so no difficulty getting around. The ushers were friendly and took us right to our seats. Overall good experience! read more

Town Hall is a super cool and historic venue for performances and shows, located super close to Times Square and Bryant Park. I loved seeing the historical events that have taken place in the venue, which is memorialized with plaques that decorate the wall, I came here for a live comedy show with my boyfriend and found the venue really nice. Bathrooms were clean (though, they could expand the bathrooms for women... lines everywhere). Drinks at the bar were pretty expensive, though that is unsurprising. The seats are great and comfortable. I felt like there was no bad seat in the house, but especially enjoyed my view of the stage from the balcony. The security guards are also friendly and funny. When doors open, there are actually four lines for clipping tickets, so the line moves efficiently. read more

Came here for a Comedy show. Nice venue, with old school charm. The bathroom is down the catacombs in the basement. If you need to seat belt extender on airplane you may not like sitting here. also there's no cup holders. i would have bought a alcoholic drink but I didn't t want to hold it during a show where clapping or grabbing my hands and holding my belly for a hee hee haw haw is involved. How have I not been to this venue when I've been to so many across the boroughs? Town Hall was an amazing theater that you can feel the history in. They are a non-profit so please consider supporting them by heading to a show. I came here for A Drag Christmas, and had THE best experience. My cousin and I splurged a bit on the tickets so we can do the meet and greet and it was well worth it. The show started at 8p, but we got there for the VIP perks. We were able to stand on stand at 6p for a photo op and the system they had in place was very efficient. Even had a chance to chat with one of the staff as we were waiting in line and they were so nice and informative about the venue itself. The show was amazing, and major props to this spot for holding such an awesome program. Pro tip: there is a another bar on the second floor, which is a little less crowded than the main one downstairs. They also serve single, doubles or triples, so be careful and drink responsibly! read more

I went for the first time as my friends invited me to the Arturo O" Farrill Band Concert. The place was packed, a sold out house. The show was great, Afro-Cuban jazz music and featured Pedrito Martínez, Daymé Arocena, Jon Faddis and Donald Harrison. Great music, at the end we stood up and danced encouraged by the performers. A long great history this Hall has and it could be seen by the pictures of the different great performers throughout the Hall. A NYC Gem of a place there is no bad seat in the house. read more

Came here to see SF9's Delight Tour and entry was super smooth and quick. Just a quick metal wand scan, bag check and ticket scan then you're in! I sat in the second row of Loge 8 and I was surprised and happy that it was a really good view of the stage! It's a guaranteed unobstructed view as the railing for the Loge area is really low so it would be dangerous if someone in the first row stood up. It's a really good view for the price (cheaper than stage level seating) if you want to enjoy the performance but not willing to splurge a crazy amount as I think the view at stage level is not worth it if you're in one of the rear rows. I think there are only four women's bathroom stalls on the second floor so of course the bathroom line was long. Sound system was pretty good too. For upbeat songs, the music was absolutely pounding and I felt like the whole theater was shaking. On another note, the chandeliers and plush red seats make the theater feel very classy. read more

I attended a comedy show at Town Hall a few months ago, and found it charming and cozy. I've been to numerous Broadway theaters in the past, but this was my first time going to an event hosted in the 1,500-seat venue. The seats are comfortable and the acoustics are great - I could hear every word clearly. There wasn't much room for the merch vendor at the entrance, but the staff managed to make it work; they routed the ticket scanning and security lines so that most guests ended up in front of the merch table before finding their way over to the seating area. They don't serve food (only drinks), so I'd recommend eating beforehand. For a theater that opened over 100 years ago and is now considered a national historic landmark venue, Town Hall is very well-maintained. I'd definitely see another comedy show here in the future. read more

Came here for a Nigel Ng comedy show. Great show. Bad venue. Poorly managed lines, for entrances and then for drinks. You have four doors with separate lines and you wonder why people are lining up at the ones on the sides? And when I ask the staff I get rude answers that they all go the same place? Then when you're inside for drinks, the bar station by the front door will have staff yelling at you to wait on the stairs like it's their fault for not creating a fire hazard of the own accord? And then I got the pleasure of watching one of the ushers accusingly ask some seated audience members what their seats were supposed to be before he realized he was looking at the wrong seats, and did not apologize. Seats are small and cramped but at least the sight lines are good. Still, with rude staff and poor facilities you're going to come here for the content and not the venue and staff that will disrespect you anyway. read more

Absolutely dreadful venue. Staff is rude, dismissive, disruptive and negligent. I was verbally attacked by an unhinged patron and when I addressed the problem to an attendant (and I specifically asked for security) and he refused to intercede. The attendants routinely wandered up and down the aisles during the performance with their flashlights on. They allowed (and even escorted) very late arriving patrons to their seats - talking the entire time and blocking everyone's view. The theater was overheated and the seating floor is horribly flat (unsloped, rendering each row blocking the next behind). Staff wouldn't allow people to stand at the artists merchandise table ( which i doubt the artist was aware of). This is a venerable facility deserving of a serious update and a professional attendant staff. I can't recommend seeing any event here until proper care is taken. Many better venues around the City. Hopefully Suzanne Vega chooses something more worthy of her talent when she performs again in NYC. read more

New York Comedy Festival brought to life in this old classic theater venue. It isn't your largest theater compared to the Broadway shows on the Times Square strip, but it does get the job done. You wouldn't assume this place exists considering it's right next to a bunch of conglomerate business buildings. Very quaint and the seats are better spaced out. No obstructed views as I enjoyed watching the live comedy of Jimmy O'Yang do his best skits saved for 2022. Not the largest but I appreciate under-the-radar theaters like this that's close to other attractions in the Bryant Park area. Major props also goes to the show and the coordination of all great comedians scheduled that night. A fantastically funny evening. read more

Zero stars rating but I am forced to give it one star! My wife and I spent $256 for two tickets to see Branford Marsalis and his Quartet on June 28, 2025. The advertisement was primarily for Branford Marsalis. We were shocked that in the first 75 min, Branford Marsalis never performed. The Quartet was at best mediocre. We asked the staff during the intermission what happened to Branford and if he would be performing in the second half. They told us they have no idea what's happening. Because the performance was mediocre and no Branford, we left. We filed a complaint with Ticketmaster and The Town Hall. The Town Hall said they have no responsibility as BlueNote was responsible for production. We were notified today our refund request was denied because he supposedly performed in the second set. Branford, The Town Hall and Blue Note are fraudsters. I would never ever go back to see Branford Marsalis anywhere, to The TO=own Hall, or Blue Note. They should be sanctioned. The Town Hall actually told me there had been many complaints like mine. Shame on all of them. This would never happen at a reputable venue. The Town Hall is a third-rate disaster. read more

These people are utter crooks. Went to see a show recently & the night was essentially ruined when upon entering the venue, myself & my wife decided to grab a drink- biggest mistake of our lives. They charged our card $48 for a Heineken & a cup of garbage wine. I couldn't even enjoy the show after that. After celebrating my "Dirty Thirty" with my honey at Parker & Quinn he surprised me with tickets to The New York Comedy Festival. I was beyond ecstatic when I found out we were going to see Jo Koy one of my favorite comedians. Town Hall has been an integral part in New York City for more than 90 years. It was designed by renowned architects McKim, Mead & White to reflect the democratic principles of the League. Town Hall was a meeting space for Suffragists who fought for the 19th Amendment which led them to educate people on the important issues of the day. Box seats were removed which gave birth to the "Not a bad seat in the house." The 19th amendment was passed and the building was completed on January 12, 1921. The opening of Town Hall took on a double meaning: as a symbol of the victory sought by its founders, and as a spark for a new, more optimistic climate. Town Hall is a old venue that is well maintained. I just love when places are immaculate. It just does something to my inner domestic lol. All jokes aside I thought that the venue was well kept. Albeit, the seats were a little uncomfortable towards the middle of the show. I had to keep adjusting my derierre. read more

Went to see Bat for Lashes concert in there. The entry process was smooth and rather straightforward. My husband, myself and another couple decided to grab a drink before entering the auditorium. You should have seen our faces when we got charged $100 for 4 drinks! And they serve drinks in plastic coffee cups which you then obviously can keep as a souvenir. What an absolute rip off! And the lines yo toilets were insane! The stage and auditorium itself are very pretty. Acoustics were great and seating chart good even if you got seats on balcony and had to sit at the back. They wouldn't let my friend come back inside after the conclusion of tonight's Christmas show from Jinkxx Monsoon and Ben de la Creme after I texted him to come back in to look at the merchandise (pictured here also) they had for sale. This is merchandise the headliners sell to help pay their bills because show business isn't easy or reliably profitable. (By the way, they were excellent and the show was a riot.) This is merchandise which my friend could have spent considerable money on. That's profit the headliners now won't see. How many others did they put their hands up to obstruct and blurt "no re-entry" to with no nuance whatsoever in their soulless voices? What about those of us on the right side of the house who couldn't even have seen the merchandise when we first filed in to see the show...not that that even matters. Lovely old concert hall. Went tonight to The Big Quiet mass meditation event. It was practically a full house and there was quite a long line to get in. The staff at the box office, the ticket takers and ushers were all very friendly and efficient. Managed to get everyone inside quickly. The theater hooks about 1500 and you can tell its been well kept although the seat next to me had a rip in the fabric. The acoustics are quite nice. Sounds had a nice deep full sounding vibrations. I recommend the loge seats in the balcony which has a very nice view of the stage and is a bit roomier than most sections as it only seats three per section and row. Tickets price were reasonable in comparison to some other Broadway theaters in the neighborhood. I wouldn't mind coming back to see other performances. read more

I'm going to keep this one straight and to the point but will say that my overall experience was a positive one and that everything ran according to plan for the show that I was seeing. By my count I have been here a total of three times and while the first was almost a decade ago the next two were within months of each other. This venue is a comfortable one and has a nice balcony if that is where your seats are. Generally I have been sitting on the main floor with the view direct to the stage and the three sections all offer great views of what is happening up there. I don't drink when I come to this space and have to say that the space where they set up the bar does hinder passage but these places have to make money. It's also rather high in the prices so I either pregame or postgame at one of the numerous pubs outside of the joint. The sound is solid and the seats comfortable and I look forward to returning here once more. The shows I had seen were all enjoyable but that is always going to be a crap shoot dependent on the artist and the gig that they put forward. Check this place out if you should be in town and something that you enjoy still has available tickets. read more

I'm used to reviewing restaurants, not music venues, so not sure what people are looking for in the music venues. Anyway, let me try. We were at Town Hall for the jazz concert. No problem with entering - four entrances were opened, run quite efficiently. Seats are dated, at the end of the performance (with intermission) it was hard to get up. Space between rows is also very limited, so overall seating is not comfortable. No complains with the sound quality (we were sitting in the third row orchestra) Concession prices are obscene - of course, may be I don't get out enough, but $6 for water and $25 for some sort of double vodka cocktail (I was not buying it, just observing in awe) is really pushing it.... Exiting the hall after the performance was a bit challenging with the crowd, but this is rather normal. Wouldn't be my venue of choice, but then I'm not the one to chose them anyway.... read more
