There are so many plants, flowers, and a beautiful greenhouse. Everything outdoors was stunning, and despite the heat, it was a wonderful day to spend outside. The kids had a great time, and the parents acting as chaperones enjoyed the nature as well, we were able to hear the birds, smell the flowers, and take beautiful pictures. Everything was great from that perspective. However, when we took the tour inside the castle, things took a turn. There is no AC inside, and it was a very hot day. You can imagine having a large group of kids inside a stuffy museum after they had already been out in the sun! They had a scavenger hunt set up for the kids, yet when the kids actually found the items, the staff very angrily told them they weren't allowed to touch anything. It makes no sense to host a scavenger hunt for children if they aren't allowed to interact with the items. In every single room we entered, they were just barking orders: 'Don't touch, don't lean, don't do this, don't do that.' It was incredibly frustrating, especially given the heat. To make matters worse, one of the girls working with the tour guide kept complaining out loud, saying, 'Oh my God, oh my God, these kids.' It was very unprofessional. No hay aire acondicionado adentro y hacía mucho calor. ¡Imagínense tener a tantos niños dentro de un museo caluroso después de haber estado bajo el sol! Tenían una búsqueda del tesoro (scavenger hunt) para los niños, pero cuando ellos encontraban los objetos, el personal les decía de forma muy molesta y agresiva que no tenían permitido tocarlos. No tiene sentido organizar una búsqueda del tesoro para niños si no pueden interactuar con los objetos. En cada habitación a la que entrábamos, solo nos decían: 'No toquen, no se apoyen, no hagan esto, no hagan aquello'. Fue muy frustrante, especialmente por el calor. Para colmo, una de las muchachas que estaba con el guía no dejaba de quejarse diciendo: 'Ay Dios mío, ay Dios mío, estos niños'. Fue muy poco profesional.

Lots of variations, everything for purchase to buy and set yourself up for these plants, classes , materials, pictures and jewlery. This said stopping into their Greenhouse to see many other amazing plants was also a treat to the eyes .The sensory garden was quite nice with sweet smells and a little fountain of running water. Sunday head beautiful weather and a nice place to visit most anytime. Note : parking is 8 dollars and after you find and pay at machine you must take tag back to your car for placement in window. ( maybe libraries have tickets for it - it's worth checking)

I heard someone mention catching a wide-mouth bass. There was a few kayakers out enjoying the day. There is a small park with swings for the kiddies. I was there with my cat of course. She loved going into the foliage. It's a nice spot to picnic also!

So it's a fairly nice stop off area and it has a rural almost upstate NY feel. There are few "rural" areas left on Long Island and Yaphank, the town that time has forgotten, is a nice place to see what Long Island night have been like before the onslaught after 1945.

The property also has three walking trails, but they are not well maintained. If you are into American history, a visit to the estate is worthwhile…read more Our GPS sent us to the back entrance, it is a one way entry so we had to ask a local the way to the main entrance. The park signage is visible once you reach the right street- Old Church Av. Out tour guide was very knowledgeable. She knows details of the estate and the family. The free tour is being offered from Friday to Sunday only, every half hour schedule from 10 - 4 PM. The house size from outside was very deceiving, it looks small, when we went for a tour, we cant believe how many rooms were built inside. The house is on its original form, minor renovation was made. The grounds are maintained. We visited the family cemetery at the northwest end corner of the property. It was amazing to see the family of different generation's tombstomes. It was a privilege be on the estate of one of the Declaration of Independence signors.

If you are into water it has a nice beach and a couple of marinas you could visit.

The grounds are completely free to enter, with ample parking, well-maintained porta potties, and a small museum offering additional information and bathrooms. We've visited both in the winter and recently in the spring, and each season offered a different experience. On our latest visit, we took the short, manageable trail to the beach area with our dog. Walking among the towering hundred-year-old trees felt magical, almost like stepping back in time. The beach views were incredibly serene, and we even got to witness two deer running freely through the forest, chasing each other. This place is more than just a historic site, it gives you an awe-inspiring feeling. Between the peaceful scenery, rich history, and natural beauty, it felt like we were transported to another time. Absolutely recommend a visit here.

The house itself can be toured with timed guided tours Friday through Sunday. These open for reservation 9:30a online for the same day and ate usually sold out in minutes so plan accordingly! I can't comment on the house since I did not snag tickets when I naively went. However, the grounds are beautiful and the walk down to the forested loop trail with the beach outlet to the harbor is stunning. There is also a museum onsite that is free to visit and enter. It contains history of the family's home life, initial political career in NY state, and Vice Presidency and Presidency, issues he championed, and post Presidency conservation work and legacy.

A light with a…read more spooky history A lighthouse about a mile or so off the coast of New Rochelle. A unique light about 42 feet with no copies that I know of. It was built in 1850 and then rebuilt in about 1868 because of heavy wind and sea damage. A very cool place that some people say is haunted. Of course many lighthouses are said to be haunted because they are spooky places but this one has a reason for the weirdness. The light gets it's name from the revolutionary war. The story or legend has it that England become embarrassed by public executions because the defiant colonist would scream out nasty things about the king before being hung. So the British decided to kill the recalcitrant rebels in private. They took them out here and chained them to the rocks that the light was eventually built on and let the tide come it and drown them. I have even heard that this was the main inspiration for part of the the Declaration of Independence. Of course the ghosts of the rebels could never find peace and still inhabit tha area. I don't know how true the story is but the rocks and lighthouse are a cool place to kayak. The sound narrows and is only about four miles across so it is an easy yak to get from Connecticut to New York. I've stopped at the rocks many times, never seen any ghosts but it is a convenient place to stop and take a leak. A light with a spooky history

The cruise is one and a half hours in duration just long enough without it feeling antsy. The scenery included forests, wetlands, and shorelines. We even crashed in on a festive cocktail hour at the Old Field club lol. Our tour guide Erika was entertaining, interesting and informative.

We called the wetlands booking number and we were told the cruise was canceled, because not enough people were going. I drove a total of 28 miles for nothing. The other people also drove 40 miles for nothing. This was a disappointment to all of us. This cruise was a sham. Avoid it.
