At the memorial plaza you see the following quote from Khalil Gibran - "When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." Many people have visited this spot and added stones and other favorite objects to every available space. The park is generally well maintained, but we did see a few weeds, and the "No Drinking" sign sends a discordant (if, sadly necessary) note. Sit in the pavilion. Watch the surf. Think about what might have been. You may only visit this in the off season because the beaches at Overlook and Cedar are for town residents only.

I have made two trips to Huntington Town Hall, my first visit was three months ago and my second…read moretime was just a few days ago. Both visits were to accomplish different things, but on both visits the staff was both professional and very nice. And I have to say on both visits the Town Hall had ample parking and we never had to wait for assistance. I love great customer service and I was pleasantly surprised both times. My dad lives in Melville which is a "hamlet" in the Town of Huntington. I went with my dad and stepmother to pay their taxes back in May. Yes, this can be done through the mail and maybe even online (not sure about online) but they were more comfortable paying in person. I was happy to take the ride with them because I love being back on the Island which is where I grew up. Town Hall is a city government office building. We signed in at the front desk and showed our identification before we were allowed to enter. Security is not high tech but they do check for identification which is a good thing. The lobby has so many cool things that are related to the history of Long Island. Lots of maps, pictures and other goodies are on display. I wish I thought to take pictures but I was really focused on reading the interesting articles they had showcased. And most importantly, getting our task completed. While we were there we inquired about the requirements for getting something else that they needed. The other day we went back with all of the required paperwork and we were in and out in about five minutes. The ladies in the office are really nice and are also very helpful. I have to say that Town Hall employees must love their jobs because they always look happy! I wish I felt that way about my job, but that's another story. Town Hall handles a lot of things. Check out their website for the hours, directions and services that they offer. But if your in the area stop in a take a peek at the cool displays!!!

The office that handles the marriage certificates are also friendly and helpful. The parking can be a little bit of a pain but is manageable. Overall great office.

NOTE: do look up their website for exact details... I didn't. Dang**[. I had thought the reenactment was both days, not just Saturday. So, Sunday when I went nobody knew anything including the people at the dock house for an afternoon boat ride. However on a quiet June 1 Sunday I did get to see Teddy Roosevelt (actor) himself ,a very kind man, an enjoyable presentation from actor Patrick Falci( with help from his wife Joan at the slide projector) who was in the 1996 Rough Riders movie and 1997 Tv show with the same name. Note: if you're a history buff check it out! And a presentation from Head Librarian and curator Sue Sarna showing the - in the works - TR museum being build in N. Dakota( July 2026) a must see for buffs. Stopped by OB RR museum, Hive Market, Once upon a Stuffie, TR bully bar and Sweet tomatoes. It was the flip side for a quiet nice day in Oyster Bay.

We previously contacted this town hall to get required documents we needed to be married in New York since we are residents of Florida. We dealt with Jenn and Georgia and they were both very courteous and helpful. We stopped in today to get our certificate for marriage with all required documents and the whole process took about 20 to 30 minutes if that long it was a very pleasant experience thank you very much Georgia and Jenn.
