Alterations Plus - Prom gown 2025

    Alterations Plus

I was in need of a rush alteration to my wedding dress as I found that I had lost too much weight…read moreafter my initial alterations were done and the hips didn't fit well anymore. The original location who did the alterations wouldn't take the job as (1) it's the week before Thanksgiving and (2) I needed it by Nov 28th. I called Alterations Plus Wednesday evening 20 minutes before they closed, spoke with Jay (the owner), and he told me if I came in at 8AM the next morning, they could get it done. AND THANK GOD I WENT WITH THEM! Maria, their bridal seamstress, was just amazing. She saw exactly what needed to be done and got it fixed in 24 hours! My dress fits better than I did after the first alterations. Despite this entire experience beginning with complete panic, Jay, Maria, and Megan put my mind at ease. I cannot say this enough, thank you thank you thank you! I highly recommend this place.

Absolutely terrible experience! We were referred to this alteration place by another tailor who was…read morebooked up due to prom season. The women here are kind, but that's about the only good thing I can say. I honestly don't know if they're inexperienced or just have never worked with a Black woman's curves before, but not one, not two, but three of my dresses were completely botched. I also had a top altered and it came back lopsided. After the first round of alterations, the owner tried to gaslight me, saying they had only adjusted the strap for my burgundy dress (which was never the main issue). I initially asked for the sides to be taken in because the bust area was too big, but somehow, that got lost in translation. So I paid AGAIN, for all to be fixed and what I got back was even worse. Everything felt rushed, uneven, and downright sloppy. I bawled my eyes out because these dresses were meant for my birthday trip. The white dress? It was the most horrendous one, imagine the outline of Sarah Baartman on a modern-day garment. That's how distorted the shape was. Even after a third attempt, the seams were still crooked and the dress was unwearable. I'm now left dressless for my trip and out of money. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.

They were even willing to work late to get an item completed before I was leaving the Cape. Truly old fashioned customer based service all the way. Dennis E.

I would not recommend Cape Cod Alterations…read more When we were shopping around for alterations for my daughter's wedding gown, we chose Cape Cod Alterations because we were quoted approximately $260. The gown ultimately needed to be taken in and hemmed. After the first fitting, the dress had been taken in so much under the arms that it was painful for my daughter to wear, requiring an additional trip to have it corrected. When we returned on the date they told us the gown would be ready, it was not finished. As a result, we had to cancel a planned trip to New York so that we could pick it up the following day. When we returned the next day, the fit issue had been corrected, but a sharp piece of boning had been left protruding from the dress, requiring yet another return visit. What was especially frustrating was being told that we needed to pick up the gown quickly because they had had it for too long, were busy with prom season, and did not have room for it--despite the fact that the repeated delays and corrections were not our fault. When I finally picked up the dress, I was shocked to be charged $900. When I questioned the price, I was told the alterations were more extensive than originally anticipated. While I understand that costs can increase, going from a quoted $260 to $900 was unexpected and, in my opinion, unreasonable. The final disappointment came one week before the wedding. My daughter, who lives out of state, came home and tried on the gown only to discover visible chalk marks all along the hemline, and the dress was still too long. We immediately brought it back and asked whether the chalk marks could be removed and the dress shortened to the marked line. We were told they were understaffed that week and could not help us. After paying $900 for alterations, we were left scrambling one week before the wedding and had to find another seamstress willing to rush the work. That cost us an additional $550. The entire experience was stressful, expensive, and disappointing. Multiple return visits, missed deadlines, quality-control issues, a much higher-than-expected final bill, and the refusal to address problems discovered just before the wedding have left us extremely dissatisfied. Unfortunately, I would not use Cape Cod Alterations again.
