Absolutely terrible experience! We were referred to this alteration place by another tailor who was booked up due to prom season. The women here are kind, but that's about the only good thing I can say. I honestly don't know if they're inexperienced or just have never worked with a Black woman's curves before, but not one, not two, but three of my dresses were completely botched. I also had a top altered and it came back lopsided. After the first round of alterations, the owner tried to gaslight me, saying they had only adjusted the strap for my burgundy dress (which was never the main issue). I initially asked for the sides to be taken in because the bust area was too big, but somehow, that got lost in translation. So I paid AGAIN, for all to be fixed and what I got back was even worse. Everything felt rushed, uneven, and downright sloppy. I bawled my eyes out because these dresses were meant for my birthday trip. The white dress? It was the most horrendous one, imagine the outline of Sarah Baartman on a modern-day garment. That's how distorted the shape was. Even after a third attempt, the seams were still crooked and the dress was unwearable. I'm now left dressless for my trip and out of money. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. read more

Alterations Plus is the best, and I would never think of going anywhere else for tailoring, alterations or cleaning. Here's a story: My dog, Lego, lifted his leg all over our drapes. Living in Barrington, I (foolishly) brought the pee soaked drapes to Prestige Cleaners (don't EVER go there, and please read my Yelp review of Prestige for my full tale or woe). After over 2 months and 3 failed attempts to clean the drapes, and with the drapes still wet with dog urine, I went to see Jay at Alterations Plus. Jay assured me they would do their best and they did. 3 days later I picked up the immaculate drapes. Everyone at Alterations Plus is great, and the quality of their work is unmatched. I should have listened to the place I bought my dress from. To start, the ladies here are amazing and friendly. I want to be clear they were not what I had a problem with at all. My biggest problem was that the prices are 3 times what other people charge. I know because I pulled my dress after getting quoted me 3 times less to do the same work. Not only are they over priced but completely a scam. I would never recommend them unless you don't mind the price continuously changing. After picking up my dress and canceling all the work except for what they had already started, the cups were sewn in crooked, not even securely and the pins were still all throughout the dress. My daughter's dress alterations cost 3 times what her dress cost. The straps had to be fixed again and the zipper now gets stuck when it worked before alterations. My mother had her dress done there too and she was so tired of getting her dress fixed she just left. Lastly, I honestly believe they are just taking on more work than they can handle or at least do properly. Bridal appointments are not personal, you will wait around with three other people for your turn well you stand around in your dress. And the fact that they made me come so late and planned to have my dress done 5 days before I needed to leave for my wedding is completely unacceptable. They should allow way more time for brides but I honestly think they do it on purpose so you have to pay because you're running out of time. I would never recommend them to anyone, specially brides. read more

I was in need of a rush alteration to my wedding dress as I found that I had lost too much weight after my initial alterations were done and the hips didn't fit well anymore. The original location who did the alterations wouldn't take the job as (1) it's the week before Thanksgiving and (2) I needed it by Nov 28th. I called Alterations Plus Wednesday evening 20 minutes before they closed, spoke with Jay (the owner), and he told me if I came in at 8AM the next morning, they could get it done. AND THANK GOD I WENT WITH THEM! Maria, their bridal seamstress, was just amazing. She saw exactly what needed to be done and got it fixed in 24 hours! My dress fits better than I did after the first alterations. Despite this entire experience beginning with complete panic, Jay, Maria, and Megan put my mind at ease. The sandwich board says pants hemmed for $5.00 When the woman wrote up my invoice it said $15.00 When I asked why, she said prices start at $5.00. I said that's not what your sign says. She said it was triple the quoted price because they are a wide leg. Classic bait and switch. read more

Had my daughters prom dresses tailored. They did a great job. Very professional, and fast. Great staff and very good experience.

Do not take military uniforms here. Called them beforehand to ask if they knew how to sew stuff onto the Army uniform, as there is a standard as to how stuff goes on. They said they did. However, when I brought my stuff in, they asked a lot of questions about how stuff goes despite them saying that they "knew." They were even saying wrong things like cutting patches that didn't need to be cut. Did not give me a lot of confidence that they would get it right. Prices were also exorbitant. I was quoted for a simple sew on of $12 for each patch, with the final total being over $120. I've had this stuff sewn on before at other places and the usual is $4 or less per patch; so $12 was beyond ridiculous. Took my stuff elsewhere and got it all done for $20. read more

I can't say enough great things about Alterations Plus. I had several dresses that needed tailoring and the outcome was far superior than any other tailor I have been to. I get my clothing tailored often, especially dresses. Ive been staying with family for the past few months and all of my usual options were not available. I had taken items to another tailor in Providence and they did such a poor job that I had to find someone that knew what they were doing. Brought my items in on a Thursday and everything was ready by Monday evening. Fast, great craftsmanship, and the dresses look amazing! Highly recommend this shop. read more

They are amazing! I dropped off a pair of designer jeans and they had them ready in 3 hours! They only charged $10 !! If there just a regular hem it's $5. I wasn't expecting that at all. It's the week before the holiday too! The girl who helped me was so personable as soon as I return I plan on stopping in to let her know what a job she does with the customers! I wish I had know her when I had my salon. She wasn't there when I went to pick up my jeans. So till next the. I say bring all your alteration needs here ! I'll be back for sure! I am looking forward to there expertise when I bring a favorite pair of evening pants to have the bottom fixed after a heel had gotten caught and ripped the material. I was in a time crunch for an alteration on a graduation dress and the staff worked with me to have the dress completed and looking amazing way quicker than expected! These folks have done consistently great work for me. I mostly have pants hemmed but in the past I've had a suit altered and a wool dress coat altered to fit me. I went in only looking to get the sleeves adjusted but they noticed a couple of tweaks that were needed, and after they were done it fit me like a glove! My fiance is hooked now as well. She has beautiful clothes and they find and fix the most subtle things that make everything fit perfectly! Friendly and courteous they just do great work at reasonable prices. read more

My friend got her wedding gown altered here and they completely butchered the dress. COMING HERE WAS A HUGE MISTAKE. The dress was all torn throughout the touille and they deconstructed it poorly so that when it was put back together it was all crooked and out of whack. The zipper was broken, buttons were missing, and they took out the unique details she loved about the dress. The owner was insanely rude and told her this was the best he can do and that she can take him to court if she has a problem. He didn't offer her money back and when she asked he basically told her to go screw. BRIDES BEWARE. DO NOT GET YOUR WEDDING DRESS ALTERED HERE. Also, look at their Facebook account- there are reviews that have similar situations, so this is clearly not a one-off!!!! read more

In searching for a wedding dress tailor for my dress Alterations Plus was recommended to me by a family member. Although everyone in the establishment was pleasant and professional their performance did not stand to par. In our initial appointment we discussed my dreams for the dress, and I had paid for the alterations in full. At the next appointment what we had discussed was not completed, and therefore needed further work. I was charged additionally. After $800 in alterations and being told the look I was originally agreed upon in conjunction with them was not achievable, I had my dress taken to a different seamstress. Per this new seamstress there were multiple errors on my dress, and she was finally able to alter my dress to my desired fit and comfort. read more

We have had an awful experience with this alterations place. My fiancé brought her dress in this past February. She had just a few important requests for her alteration and the seamstresses listened to none of them. The bottom of the dress was diced up, the hem was totally crooked, there's buttons missing, and the zipper is broken. The dress is now ruined, and we have to go to another alterations place to try and salvage it the best we can. Prices here were also outrageous. The owner has treated both my fiancé and members of our family like complete dirt. He's ignorant, obnoxious, and defensive. My fiancé is easy going and kind hearted, and the whole staff of this boutique took advantage of this and walked all over her. I don't want any bride-to-be to have to stomach the emotional turmoil she has gone through. I'd highly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I went to get my wedding dress altered here. They charged me a ridiculous amount of money and did not even fix my dress. I ended up having to take it to a different alternation place in order for them to fix it correctly. They spilled coffee on my dress and tried to hide it by sticking it back in the bag. Little did they know they spilled the coffee on the bag as well. They kept ripping the lace on my dress and trying to say that they needed to pull my dress together and ruin the style of the dress or else it was just going to keep ripping, when I took it to the other alternation place the lady fixed the lace for me and I did not have a problem with it. They left pieces of string hanging off my dress all over the place. They were supposed to fix the hem and left the lace at the bottom bunched up and uneven. When I went to get it fixed the lady took two inches off one side of the dress because it was that uneven! When my mom called to complain and get money back the owner tried to ask if they would preserve the dress and fix it again my mother told them they will never touch my dress again. He then asked her to come in and talk about it. He then filed a POLICE REPORT saying my mother was HARASSING him. Yet he is the one who asked her to come in and talk about the dress and every time she would go there he wasn't in the store. PLEASE DO NOT GET YOUR WEDDING DRESS DONE HERE IF YOU WANT IT TO COME OUT RIGHT! They also say they give you a discount if you get your dress from ALEXANDRA'S BOUTIQUE that's a lie. And do not listen to them when they tell you they did MISS AMERICA/MISS UNIVERSES dress that's a lie!! read more

We were under the gun to get my husband a new suit for a wedding. We bought one less than a week before the event, but needed some alterations ASAP. We stopped in at Alterations plus and Jay was great! He explained to us in detail what needed to be altered and showed us why and how it would look after alterations. Michael A. In the past 6 months I have had two problems with the wash & press service. First problem occurred when they lost one of my shirts. No problem, the owner offered me to replace it with a couple of shirts that were previously owned. I thought that was weird but I went along with it. Second problem occurred when they burnt one of my shirts around the collar and along the front where it buttons down. I presented the shirt to the pleasant girl working the counter. She agreed that the shirt indeed was damaged and told me that they were experiencing problems with the laundry company they have subcontracted to perform the service. She said the owner would get back to me. After waiting nearly three weeks the owner, Jay calls me to offer a resolution to my situation of them damaging my shirt. I explained the shirt is damaged and I wanted them to replace me the cost of the shirt. The owner said he could not take money out of the register but he would give me credit in the amount of the shirt. I explained that I could not purchase a shirt with a credit slip from Alterations Plus and I wanted to be compensated with either a new shirt or cash. The owner told me if I didn't like it to take him to small claims court. Save yourself the aggrevation of having to go through something like this. Obviously this foreign owner does not care about customer service, he is more interested screwing his customers and sporting around his fancy Mercedes Benz. read more

When an another alteration place decided to close early the day before my interview for no particular reason this complicated my plans immensely. Fortunately, alterations plus was able to alter another off the rack suit for me within mere minutes of my arrival in their store. I will never let another business alter my clothes. Let me start by saying how wonderful these ppl are. We are fairly new customers. We found them by chance. Having two men in my house who both dress for work my ironing weekly was long. Two to three hours tops. Most of the dry cleaners in my area are pricey and for the amount of I have it was a big expense. But not since I found them. Reasonable in price and they offer a discount for military police and fire. The staff has become like family. I recently dropped off two pairs of boots for repair. Pick up and delivery for repairs is Saturdays. I was in need of the boots for a trip I was planning and I was in a bind because they would not have been ready on time. Today I received a call telling me they would make special plans to get me my boots on time for my trip. I was so apriecitve of the service they provide I felt the needed to immediately write this review. Now this is a special thing that have done for me but it was the reason why....she said u are a good customer...well it's because u are a great business to deal with. Let me start by saying I have been a customer here for years. I've gotten many things cleaned and altered over the years, but unfortunately my most recent visit will be my last. I took a coat here to be cleaned and it was ruined. The coat was white and when I received it after the cleaning it was yellow, dingy, and looked like it was a decade old ( I had just purchased it about 2 months prior). When I returned the next day with the coat and explained that it was in fact ruined, the owner told me he would work on the situation and see if it could be fixed. About an hour later he started TEXTING my cell phone about the problem asking where I had purchased the coat and so on. Personally I think texting instead of calling is a little unprofessional, but I tried to work with him. As the conversation went on he tried to tell me to return the coat to where I purchased it from. When I told him I no longer had the receipt he said that he called customer service and they would accept a picture of my bank statement with a purchase amount on it. Let me be clear...the bank statement read the name of the store and the amount paid to the store. This amount could have been for shoes, a pillow, a piece of furniture. There is NO specification of what is purchased and no retailer is going to just refund you an amount shown on a bank statement when they can't definitively prove what the item purchased is. He was basically just trying to get out of replacing the coat that he was responsible for ruining. When I went back for the coat I asked to be refunded at least for the cleaning price because obviously I wasn't happy with that either. He did not even give me back the full price for the cleaning. The customer service here is an absolute joke when things don't go smoothly. Totally mishandled, buyer beware! read more

Maria (a true dressmaker) altered my wedding gown PERFECTLY. I arrived here on recommendation from friends in the community - and was nervous based on a couple other reviews - but Jay the owner and Maria took exquisite care of me, my gown, and all of my mother's questions! They were supremely efficient and worked around my extensive travel schedule, and got my gown done in just one week. Maria did extensive work downsizing my gown - altering the shoulders to be just off-shoulder, and even adding a soft nude tulle underneath when she noticed the straps making my shoulders red from the irritating fabric. The first fitting was not perfect - the arm holes being small and the bust being not quite right - and she listened to Everything and in a week I returned and it was Perfect!! Shoulders, straps, arm holes, princess seams, side seams, waistband, breast cups (even changing the thread tacks so they were slightly adjustable for me), hem, and bustle. My mother sews and has altered many of our things herself and is Very impressed with the work - even with multiple alterations there are no picks/holes/stretch marks/thread tracks... the gown is perfect.
