I would not recommend Cape Cod Alterations. When we were shopping around for alterations for my daughter's wedding gown, we chose Cape Cod Alterations because we were quoted approximately $260. The gown ultimately needed to be taken in and hemmed. After the first fitting, the dress had been taken in so much under the arms that it was painful for my daughter to wear, requiring an additional trip to have it corrected. When we returned on the date they told us the gown would be ready, it was not finished. As a result, we had to cancel a planned trip to New York so that we could pick it up the following day. When we returned the next day, the fit issue had been corrected, but a sharp piece of boning had been left protruding from the dress, requiring yet another return visit. What was especially frustrating was being told that we needed to pick up the gown quickly because they had had it for too long, were busy with prom season, and did not have room for it--despite the fact that the repeated delays and corrections were not our fault. When I finally picked up the dress, I was shocked to be charged $900. When I questioned the price, I was told the alterations were more extensive than originally anticipated. While I understand that costs can increase, going from a quoted $260 to $900 was unexpected and, in my opinion, unreasonable. The final disappointment came one week before the wedding. My daughter, who lives out of state, came home and tried on the gown only to discover visible chalk marks all along the hemline, and the dress was still too long. We immediately brought it back and asked whether the chalk marks could be removed and the dress shortened to the marked line. We were told they were understaffed that week and could not help us. After paying $900 for alterations, we were left scrambling one week before the wedding and had to find another seamstress willing to rush the work. That cost us an additional $550. The entire experience was stressful, expensive, and disappointing. Multiple return visits, missed deadlines, quality-control issues, a much higher-than-expected final bill, and the refusal to address problems discovered just before the wedding have left us extremely dissatisfied. I used them for the first time a couple weeks ago. The alterations were done well and priced right. The only thing is they weren't ready as promised. I went to pick them up on the Saturday they were supposed to be ready and was told they needed 30 more minutes. I got my hair done and came back a couple hours later and still had to wait another 30 minutes. I also noticed other patrons coming and going having the same experience. So I'll probably take my stuff there again but not worry too much if it takes longer than promised. read more

I am just thrilled with this gem of a place! I have had a summer cotton dress that I bought in Nantucket over 30 years ago. It was a cool hippie dress that got ruined in the front with bleach I could not toss it, so on a whim, I brought it to the owner of Cape Cod Alterations and she grinned and told me she loves to repair things like my dress. This place is fantastic! I had a suit taylored there years ago and the ladies were very friendly. I recently needed to get some pants hemmed for a job interview, I was in a major binde and was running out of time. Unfortunately, I arrived about 45 minutes after they closed. I sat in my car calling other alteration places, but everyone was closed. I took a chance and knocked on their door. A woman opened right up, told me to come in. She pinned the hems, fixed them ... I was in and out within 10 minutes!! Very reasonable prices as well. The ladies here are wonderful. Absolute life savers! read more

Horrible experience here! If you're looking for a good tailor who will do what you ask, and what you pay for, best to go elsewhere. Brought a pair of pants and a skirt to be tailored this past month. The skirt simply needed to be shortened, and the pants needed the waist taken in, the sides tapered, and shortened. My two complaints: - I was told to come back Thursday to pick up my clothes (which seemed a quick turnover time). When I got there on Thursday afternoon, I was told they were still working on my clothes, and I could wait or come back. I asked how much longer, and was told anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes... I waited. - When I finally got home with my clothes, the skirt was great, but the pants only had the waist taken in (I had paid for the tapering etc). I went back, and they seemed somewhat apologetic. They said they'd redo it, and I could come back the next day to pick it up. When I went to pick up, I decided to try the pants on before I left. They had done NOTHING to the pants! They were completely untouched! I was shocked, and asked for my money back. They gave it back, but couldn't explain what had happened, and were not apologetic in the slightest. If you are looking for a quality, dependable tailor, do not come here. While the prices are so reasonable, the professionalism and quality of work is reflected in the low prices. Disappointing experience! read more

They are the best! I brought in my favorite skirt with a loose thread (a few minutes before closing time, by the way). Raisa took it, magically stretched the fabric, pulling the thread back into place, pressed it and returned it to me, all in about two minutes. She wouldn't even take any money for it. I went to these fabulous women after another place butchered my bridesmaids dress. The ladies were so great words cannot even express.
