Since my first review I have been to this coffee house a few more times. And as much as I like the coffee and the people that serve are very friendly I am disappointed that the cleanliness is really going downhill. It seems that in the seating area on the side of the coffee house that no one cleans up. I've been seen trash on the ground, the cushions on the chairs look worn out and dirty. And some of the chairs are really uncomfortable to sit on. Most likely I won't be stopping for coffee again unless things change. read more

Though I am not a huge fan of their coffee, the atmosphere is unmatched. If you go to Baylor or live in Waco and want a funky place to sit and relax, Common Grounds has exactly what you need. The inside gets a little crowded pretty quickly, but the air also a side patio and outdoor area. Personally, the outdoor area is my favorite and has many different types of tables, benches, and other furniture to choose from. If you just want to grab some coffee on the go, they do also have a drive thru, but charge a small fee for the use of it. If you're in the Waco area, it's definitely worth a stop in! Be cautious that parking is limited, but most of the crowd are college students that walk com the campus that is right across the street. read more

Always a good stop when driving through waco! Very fun, unique atmosphere with a consistent crowd. I have been here many times for concerts and other events and always enjoy myself! Definitely a tourist spot so if you are ever in town I would recommend! I cannot get work done here due to the heavy foot traffic and volume but love meeting friends here! I even helped a friend ask a girl to prom at common grounds in high school! Their drip is very good and you can never go wrong with a good latte. I do wish they had actual cups for if you are staying in house. They also have a drive through which is nice but it can be a bit slow so just beware!! read more

This place is so whimsical and cute! Stopped in Waco coming back from Dallas and decided to get coffee here and so so glad I did! This place is so quaint with many different rooms to study or catch up with friends. There're seating areas outside front, inside, and outside at the back so I can't imagine there'd ever be insufficient space. All their seats are mismatched and a little old looking which gives it that whimsical ambiance. I ordered one of their classic drinks named something with "Cowboy" and it was so good! My friend ordered a cold drink, and he enjoyed his a lot too. I am definitely stopping here again whenever I travel. I'd design my traveling just to come here. I enjoyed the experience offered here at this coffee shop so much and would recommend to any and all coffee lovers! read more

I've been going to Common Grounds for about ten years, and there's a reason I always go back. The atmosphere is like no other place I've ever been before. When I'm at Common Grounds, I always feel like in my my own little tree house world, even if it's crowded. The coffee drinks are good, but syrups are key to most of their drinks. I am a chronic searcher of decent coffee in the places I travel. I'm in Waco and thought, "Ok, why not try something local?" I've never said this before in a Yelp review but I suppose there's always a first - I want my goddamn money back. I doubt I'll visit here again and I can't recommend this place. One star for the manufactured cool. Atmosphere can be manufactured anywhere, as illustrated by Common Grounds. What can't be manufactured anywhere is good coffee, again, as illustrated by Common Grounds. First - I've never seen such dopey "baristas" in my entire life. It was as if I wasn't speaking an intelligible to these kids, who seem to be there simply to be part of the vibe of the joint, I guess. Their non-chalant, slack mother effer approach to their jobs was duly noted. I ordered a medium "famous" Cowboy Coffee - a Caballero with the dark roast. Where was the coffee? I do not exaggerate - my drink tasted like a Carnation dry mix blend, but watered down. I also wanted a bagel, toasted with a little butter. So, what does the kid behind the bar do? Hand me a plastic wrapped bagel from the case, give me a couple pats of butter and a knife. Then he says, "the toaster is right behind you." I'm thinking, "no the toaster should be behind YOU." I've never prepared my own food in a cafe before.... ever. This was a highly negative first. Totally, totally unsatisfactory. What did I pay for again? $7.50 including tip for a shitty Carnation interpretation and a cold, plastic wrapped bagel I had to prepare myself. To recap - A) No parking (unless you want to park next door in the Denny's parking lot, or whatever chain that is that I glossed over) B) Shit coffee prepared by indifferent baristas C) If you do not want to prepare your own food, order a brownie D) BUT THE VIBE IS GREAT! THEY EVEN PLAY BOBBY DYLAN! Is the "atmosphere" really worth it? No... I think a lot of local Yelpers here, past and present students of Baylor, etc. are settling for crap solely because of the fact that there's nothing better around. If you think I'm overreacting here, feel free to take a look at my other reviews and you'll see the opposite as plain as day. This place screamed "You want satisfaction? Go eat a Snickers bar." I love common grounds but I went today to the one on Baylor's campus and asked for decaf because I have a caffeine intolerance. It was not decaf. It is 4am and I'm still awake and my heart is racing, thanks to the man working there, who by the way, was not wearing his mask correctly (and it was on Baylor's campus so masks are still required). We saw this place on Fixer Upper, and bookmarked it. I love a good coffeehouse with character. We stopped in after going to Magnolia Market on a Saturday Morning. There was a line, but the staff moved it efficiently. They had several items on the menu chalkboard. What I also loved is that for it to be such a small space, they have a ton of seating. We are talking mismatched sofas, seating on the side patio, a bar area, and then you have the backyard, which was pretty cool. I chose the Milky Way Mocha, which tasted super good. It had a caramel-chocolatey taste just like the candy bar. We also split a strawberry basil donut. Even though I had a fancier drink, there was just something about the coffee...you could tell that they use quality beans, and I could taste the freshness. You can also get any drink made cold if you prefer. This is a great place to stop in the area, or even a good resting spot if you want to take a break from the crazy Dallas-Austin traffic. read more

Ok, that might be an exaggeration, but it's a pretty cool place and the closest independent coffee shop to campus. You say you're not a Baylor Bear? Well, that's okay, stop in anyway. The coffee is fresh, and they serve a variety of flavors each day (you can buy beans here, too). Frozen beverages are available as well, and they can be topped with the tastiest chocolate sprinkles EVER. The atmosphere is stylish yet comfortable. You'll feel right at home. Must've stopped by at a bad time (Sunday night around 6:30pm), but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. First and foremost, PARKING IS AWFUL. Seems great if you're a student walking or riding a bike from campus, but rough otherwise. Two, the staff was friendly and helpful, but please keep the grab ass behind the counter to a minimum when someone's ordering. Third, there were a couple espresso drinks I'd not seen before and the Alfredo was a nice surprise. Nothing mind blowing, but by far the best part of my experience. read more

This was where the hipsters hung out and students studied when I was a student at BU. I tended to avoid this area if I needed to study because you could never find a spot. It was always packed and crowded. On certain days of the week they would have live bands playing music or skits. I tend to get the ARNOLD PALMER on hot days when I'm walking around campus. It was a nice refreshment. It had a nice tang to it. The drink wasn't overly sweet, but it was really cooling and refreshing. The HOT CHOCOLATE was for colder days. I liked the chocolate bits that were garnished on top of the drink. It added nice crispy bites to the drink. It was warm and creamy. Definitely something to get to warm you up in the colder winters. Service is always a hit or miss here. Sometimes you would get someone really chill and cool and other times you could be unlucky and end up ordering with a complete jerk.
