    Tuna Crudo
    Kate A.

The most off-putting thing about this restaurant is the service. An older man was our waiter, and his misogynistic attitude was very obvious towards us as two young women. He was dissing our food and drink choices, recommending what HE would order (because his wife is a French chef, this makes him an expert?). He made us order the tuna crudo instead of the ceviche which we originally ordered; he claimed the ceviche had no flavor, but other than mango, I couldn't taste any flavor in the crudo, either (he was also man-splaining the ceviche, as if we'd never had it in a broth before; that's how it's served at Ocean Prime, sir...). Then my friend wanted sauvignon blanc and he steered her to the albarino (which she didn't like as much). The food itself is ok (nothing special), but the service really left a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended). I wouldn't bother eating here unless you have Celiac disease (everything on the menu is GF).

Very sweet and nice experience at comida. I came with an extremely large party and they found a way to accommodate us all. And all the food we ate was delicious! I personally got the beef tenderloin and thought it was amazing. There's a good variety of food options for the group here. I have two friends that are gluten free and another two with a shellfish allergy so I was happy to be able to find somewhere as nice and convenient for us all to eat at.

Celiacs!!! Dine fearlessly here! No reactions, not a spec of gluten here. The food was amazing and seed oil free too. Also, the drinks were fresh and not too sugary, loved being able to taste the full profile of them. We had the fried chicken, pork tenderloin, and the queso... then the doughnuts to go for a late night treat. The service was wonderful, the owner is so nice. And the space is clean and immersive. Whenever I'm in town, I'll definitely be coming in.

Saturday, August 16, 2025 - Two for diner before the Florida Studio Theater. 6 PM reservation (strongly recommended!! even out of season) They have been open for 2 or so months I heard. Preamble: (sing w/the Beatles "Today is your (my) Birthday" which it was for me on this day!! Right after this meal we saw one of the BEST or many great productions at FST called "Don't Dress for Dinner" so plug for them!!!) Now/today/Sunday I just wrote one of VERY few 1 star reviews I have done in over a decade and realize I don't do a LOT of 5 star reviews in the other direction unless it is well deserved. (for Boomers you will know what I mean from ABC Wild World of Sports and the Olympics.....when I say ==== I am the German Judge?) Spoiler Alert: Comida is out of the over 120 restaurants my wife and I have on our Yelp list, and that I have reviewed, in the Sarasota, Vamo, Osprey, Venice, Englewood, and Northport area : a TOP 5 RESTAURANT! Home run! Service and ALL staff were smooth, and ran a cooperative and effective zone defense. ALL were engaging, knowledgeable and attentive and responsive. I was SHOCKED when a fellow diner we overheard confirming they were only opened for about 2 months!! They are preparing for an onslaught in September/October when the "birds" come flying South and NOBODY will be able to get in!!! (I am NOT helping myself with this review, I know???) They have a unique plan for this that I am not sharing here. YOU will have to go and find out BEFORE October or so? Specifically "Allan" was fantastic! No liquor license, but they do have grape and wine spirits/ensembles, beer and mocktails. My wife tried two and I had a mocktail that was VERY good. (as I type this the next day on August 17th I am celebrating 9 years sober so I come for the food.... not the booze or bar!) Side note not affecting my scoring/review. The tap water from the city of Sarasota is horrific. We ordered some still. but a $6 solution to warm cloudy table water in steamy Florida in August is a bit of a bummer. Suggest a refrigerated tap water filtered system and ice maker. We split an ample Watermelon salad, I suggest you paw around and find my pictures as this salad and all the food not only took the best pictures I can recall in many years on Yelp etc and its because of the freshness and the assembly and medley of the presentation BUT it actually TASTED BETTER THAN THE AWESOME PICTURES MAKE IT LOOK!! A culinary artistry and fresh food for all palates including carnivore, keto, paleo, vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, etc etc. I myself and a Nutritarian Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) eater! My wife went for the Picanha a Brazilian cut of sirloin that was truly buttery and yet firm and meaty. It makes a Peter Lugar steak chew like saddle leather? (ok I am exaggerating) but at $42 for this at Comida vs Peter Lugar Rib Steak at $92!!! I would buy TWO at Comida!!! This was a great product and the companion sauce was tasty and complimentary to the rub and seasoning. 10/10 As a side to share we got the Corn Elote. The corn here was fresh juicy and off the cob with a very creamy cheesy mayo based sauce and cotija Mexican cheese. I am not a big fan of cotija cheese and really have been avoiding oils, cheese etc. but I did have a few tastes and this was a luxurious and tasty corn side!!! It could have been less cheesy/saucy for my liking.. Bottom line my wife LOVED it, and nobody would know I only had a spoon or two, since it was GONE!!! 8/10 PS I believe they can do this vegan style on request with a cashew cheese maybe and that will be how I get it NEXT TIME we are there!!! Which will be happening!!! I got the Charred Cauliflower. (GF and Vegan) pickled red onion, orange and grapefruit, mango, radish, micro cilantro, Comida mole. The presentation, the ingredients the micro greens and the Comida mole sauce looked and tested truly fantastic!!! (find the pictures) This was one of my favorite entrees in months and many of dining out. Great job!! 10/10 They picked up on my wife's request for a photo on my "birthday" and surprised us with a dessert. We had heard their GLUTEN FREE chocolate donut is a big hit with its ricotta donut (no wheat or flour!!!) but we felt the chocolate and all that heaviness was not in the cards so we went with the vegan Passion Fruit & Coconut Masa Pudding (GF) fresh peach, roasted sweet plantains, vanilla and masala, flowers!!! Well let me say Happy Birthday to MEEEEEEEE this was an truly delicious dessert! YOU HAVE to see the picture as well. The fruit so perfect and lightly sweetened, the masa so flavorful and smooth and silky to the tongue. My dopamine triggering taste buds almost made my brain order a second one!!!! 10/10 OK out of control with the verbose report. Please give these folks a shot! (just not when we might be going, so we can still get a seat!) Great job!

I had an urge for a salad to go, and dropped by Comida to order their wedge salad , which I've never done before. What most impressed me was the care they gave to make sure I enjoyed this salad at its very best when I got home. EVERYTHING was on the side in separate compartments: the plentiful romaine, the dressing, goat cheese, shredded chicken and the corn medley. Thanks Comida! It was delicious , and as good as if I was eating it in your wonderful restaurant.

    Lobster Ceviche Tostada

My recent visit to Comida was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the sweetest hostess. She was such a joy to chat with and a great first impression of the restaurant's inviting vibe. We started with the classic guacamole, fresh, flavorful, and the perfect way to kick things off. The lobster ceviche tostada was a standout. Light, citrusy, and beautifully balanced. For mains, we ordered the McCoy Ranch grass-fed NY strip and the Hokkaido seared sea scallops, with a side of their Smoked Paprika & Cumin Potatoes. All cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Our lovely and knowledgeable waitress took the experience to another level by curating wine that paired perfectly with our entrees. You can really tell the staff here takes pride in the full dining experience. To end the night, we indulged in the churro donut holes, that came out crispy and warm. We left completely pleased and stuffed. Comida is a refreshing and flavorful addition to Sarasota's downtown scene. If you're looking for a place with incredible food, great vibes, and exceptional service. This is it!

    Milanesa Fried Chicken
    Stan K.

We came in excited after seeing the 4.9 Yelp rating, but this place completely missed the mark. Atmosphere was fine, though tables are crammed together (my chair kept getting bumped), and seeing a giant Chick-fil-A cup at the host stand killed the vibe. The host/manager at the front was also short with staff while seating us, even though we had a reservation. Drinks and apps gave us hope -- the Mexicano cocktail and shrimp were fresh and tasty, and the chips were great. The elotes were good but not something I would go out of my way for, or order again. But the mains were a disaster: the Milanesa Fried Chicken was greasy and flavorless, and the $46 Hokkaido scallops were rubbery, fishy, and tiny. Easily 1/5 on both dishes. The presentation of the food was nice - great for taking photos. I just wish the taste matched. The only highlight was our server -- attentive, knowledgeable, and honest. She even comped the scallops after admitting they weren't from their usual vendor. Also note: they don't have a full liquor license, so "cocktails" are sherry-based. Bottom line: nice server, but food and experience did not live up to the hype.

    Chimichanga

Brunch @ COMIDA today. It's their first day open for Brunch. What a treat. I found them so welcoming & friendly. From Jordan the GM to our server Robert who was so wonderful, helpful & knowledgeable. The place is beautifully decorated. Lots of windows bringing the outside in. Super comfy seating, nice bar, bright blue colors which instantly make you feel warm & relaxed. Let's talk about the food because that's really what matters. Great selections if you're looking for something light or a hearty meal. All dishes are gluten free & they also several vegan options. Many of their dishes are a la carte so it can get pricey if your adding a side or two. We ordered some beers & a watermelon mocktail (refreshing). Dishes ordered, a chimichanga which was very flavorful, very authentic. The other selection was their Prime Ancho Chile & Lime rubbed NY Steak with an amazing chimichurri sauce. This dish was simply perfection. As a side dish we ordered the saffron rice, which was good as well. The portions are excellent. Prices are a bit on the higher side so that is something to consider. I honestly couldn't find a negative with this establishment. They open for brunch 10-3 Sat & Sun and then serve dinner starting at 4:30. LOVED this place, the people & the food.

    HONEY GLAZED PORK TENDERLOIN

This place is Sarasota's best kept secret!! Everything on the menu is gluten-free, no seed oil and organic! Everything we had was absolutely delicious!! I was blown away by the Honey Glazed Pork. Can't wait to come back and try some of the other dishes!! The service was so amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful! Ps! Come in the evening time and ask for the fire pit!! Thank you!!

Service was excellent--the pacing of the food was especially well done, with dishes coming out at just the right intervals so we could actually enjoy everything as it arrived. Cocktails were well made, and our friends were very happy with the wine selection. The only two things that didn't quite work for me were the vegetable paella and the mushroom toast, but everything else was solid to excellent. They also did a great job accommodating us with kids. The restaurant has an upstairs, downstairs, bar and outdoor seating. We also enjoyed the Sangria. Our friend ordered a gin and tonic and a glass of white wine. He complained to the server how small the glasses were. Our bill for four of us was $260 which is way too high for the size of the portions.

As we wandered about looking for someplace for dinner (the place we had intended for the evening was maxed out with one large party, so needed to look elsewhere) realized we just happened upon a place we had driven by a couple of times called "The Doctors Office". They had a beautiful garden area outside where people were dining, but it was a pretty warm night, so decided to check out the inside - where we found a really cool space and were greeted by the host asking: "Do you have an appointment?" (Get it? Doctors office...reservations...appointment!? Too cute a play on the doctor's office thing! : ) Well, we did NOT have said appointment (and the main dining area was quite full!) but thankfully there was one table remaining in the back lounge area, which was through a hidden door made to look like a bookshelf! This area also had its own cool vibe. Waiter (Matt) immediately placed two little medicine cups in front of us - to sample their cherry rum punch. Delish. I ordered a cocktail (cannot recall the name but along the lines of a manhattan) while my DH stayed with red wine (boooooo-ring! ; ) We shared the smoked salmon appetizer (super yummo!) Then on to dinner. OK, we're talking seafood country here! But, over the course of the several days we've been here, I ordered seafood every single time. I adore seafood but was ready for something else. So, was being realistic when I ordered something on the beef realm. Got the short rib dish and it did not disappoint. It was excellent. Maybe not the "easily shredded with a fork" ones I have had elsewhere, but certainly super tasty and not at all tough or fatty. DH got the shrimp-lobster tacos and said they were incredible! No leftovers coming home with this guy! Our waiter, Matt, was new to this establishment (but not waitering) and was attentive and personable - above and beyond. Would highly recommend. No, you're not going to get any water views (this place is sort of hidden away in an obscure spot behind a plaza) but well worth the visit!

I feel like the drinks used to be a lot more creative from what I saw on their socials and from what my friend said who went back in the day it used to be more of a speakeasy elevated cocktail vibe versus a tiki/dive bar vibe. We had to ask for the chips that are supposed to be given complimentary and then we ordered bread and soup which literally took an unnecessary like 30 mins or more to come out as we watched the people on both sides of us get their full meals before us when we got items that just had to be reheated. The tomato soup was very good once it finally came out, the rolls were good but nothing as great as the hype in my opinion for the menu. The drinks were good but honestly the starter shot given at the bar was my favorite which was a hibiscus Pom margarita which I ended up getting fully as my second drink. Service started out hot but then went downhill but that is unfortunately the standard of when gratuity is already included in a check. Then when it came time to pay it got weird when there was a simple mix up when my friend intentionally overpaid even with gratuity involved in her check and the bartender asked her if she wanted change and she said yes but never brought it back. My friend gave 3 - 20s on a $38 check (gratuity) already in but she wanted to tip a few more dollars because she is a very generous person and then when she asked about her change that's when it got weird and the bartender made it seem like she didn't understand why she wanted change instead of just apologizing for the mistake and they went back and forth for a few minutes with the bartender ending up just giving her the extra $20 back. Just left a weird taste in our mouths for the experience when I feel like any bartender would understand what she wanted to do with giving extra larger bills to split especially when she said she wanted change and it was a massive overpayment or if the thought there was a very generous tip like 30% would make sure with guest that's what they want and show appreciation if that were the case. It was just weird how it all was handled. The decor was on point for Christmas and the vibe was very casual but oldie vibes which makes sense for it being in Anna Maria island.
