Place has been there for YEARS. Nothing fancy, a bit dull. Bad thing is sometimes they have gaming with kids there. The tables totally get in the way of the comics. Funny to see a 30 -something playing Heroclix with an 11 yr old. Weird. Sometimes when I've gone in, there are a man and woman SMOKING behind the counter. It's an OK comic shop. I was part of the Comic Cult when I was a kid . I use to come here as often as possible when I was little . I would come here with my allowances and spend it on X-Men Comics and figurines and also buy Marvel Cards when they use to make them back in the day . I remember the owner smoking cigarettes all the time, that was the 90s for you ha ha . Well now I'm a father and I want to allow my kids to enjoy comics and I came here looking for something for them and little something for me too lol. But sadly they didn't carry what I was looking for and they almost no selection of comics for kids . It looks like the they have the left the age of comics and moved onto card games . They play Magic cards here if you're into that sort of thing but I'am not . The place also reeked of body odor and stale cheese pizza and greasy unwashed long hair . It sucks because I know it's not the cults fault but there should be a default rule that if you smell dude you automatically lose and must leave . So anyway after all the smells I and the lack of comics I just left , sorry Comic Cult you had a good run but your Comic Cult is now the Cult of Card games . read more

I had a poor experience last time I went. The store is pretty great and the other customers are friendly. The attendee, this time, was an older man with medium length grey hair. I asked about a certain outcome in a game of MTG and the guy went off on a rant to me. He called me an asshole several times because I asked how something in the game happened. He said I ruined that particular game for him because I was an MTG player asking questions, that mtg is ruining the business and that the MTG players are the worst of his customer base. He kept telling me this and pointing his me. even after I let him know that I didn't mean any disrespect and that I was just trying to understand what was happening in the game since I had not played in a while and that I was sorry. He just kept going on about how Magic the gathering players are assholes. Even though he was playing a game of Magic in a store where they sell MTG cards. I can forgive a nerd rant especially since maybe I did ask the wrong question, idk. but in a professional environment there is no place for demeaning people especially if its talking shit about your customers to your customer's face. I was in there to spend money and even wanted to buy something at the end of it all but he ignored me as I stood at the counter. I got tired of waiting and left and told him to have a nice day and sorry. He muttered something in an odd tone before I left. I love stores like this but this employee made it clear that his personal opinions matter more than cultivating a gaming environment. Until recently I've been getting my comics exclusively in OC because I hadnt found a place in LA by my house to get them that I liked. This is my favorite place in the south bay to go so far. So I've visited almost all the comic shops south/s.east of the 105 fwy down to Orange County. Here's my rundown on my visit... The store is a very sub-par comic shop. Calling it a comic shop is a long shot. The store appears to love gaming more than anything else. Most of the shop is very open and you can tell that it's setup this way so they would have room for tables. The new comics are displayed in the back wall (not very well). Their display system leads the comics to get damaged very easily. The back issue bins that they have are in really bad shape. A lot of the books are not bagged or boarded. Looking through them more than half of the books are in less than Fair condition due to the storage practices. It shows that this store does not care about it's books. I'm glad I had other reasons to be in the area, I would've hated to learn about the shop if I didn't. I definitely will not be coming back here.They don't offer much to the comic book fan. read more

I chose to rate this place two stars, instead of one, only because the first time I visited I had less of a displeasurable experience. This time I arrived to not a single acknowledgement of my presence while, what looked to be the owner chatted away on the phone. He was completely oblivious to me politely requesting assistance. After what was about 5 minutes of me hovering near the display case, I finally managed to get him to make eye contact and he quickly broke eye-contact and instead raised his hand and index finger to me displaying body-language in a manner that meant "hold on longer" rather than "ill be with you shortly". He genuinely seemed annoyed! He then continued his phone conversation for at least 3 more minutes, which was filled with very pressing matters such as "yes, I left the light on", and "well, I've been up since 6:30am, what about you?" After some time he arose from his computer chair, still deep in conversation, and paced back and forth a few times. His short walk to the display case to help me was about-faced a few times before he reluctantly hung up the phone and muttered his first words to me. Without any air of customer service, he lectured me that the cards on priced on display were not his, and that all card sales would be cash only and for the amount they were listed for. At this point I still had not spoken a single word to him yet. I blankly stared at him didn't reply, because what was there to say to a statement like that? A storekeeper telling me the product in his store wasn't his, and that the product was for sale for the price shown. Okay. Between 12 and 15 minutes since I had entered the store and finally received help, I finally asked to see a box of cards with sleeves on them that were priced individually. He then got a little annoyed at this request and frustratedly told me that the cards weren't his, and that he couldn't show them to me. His body language again was a bit unorthodox and brash, implying that I was supposed to somehow connect the dots between what he was saying, and the message he actually was hoping to get across. Mind you, this unfolded while he was standing in front of the very cards I was hoping to see, that he insisted he was too busy to show them to me. He motioned his hands towards a customer-less store, which was very neat and tidy. He tried to justify why he couldn't show me the cards, again referring back to the cards not belonging to him. He also said something to the effect that it was too much effort for him to monitor me while I looked through them; as if I were some sort of thief who might run off with the cards. As he continued to try rationalize to me why he couldn't allow me to look at the cards, I could sense his demeanor changing from simply disgruntled to hostile (ironically, it appeared as if he were rationalizing to himself, rather than to me). I turned around before he could finish and interrupted his ramblings with a loud "Have a good day". Unless the store decides to post the hours with which the owner of the cards is available to allow buyers to come inspect them, I will not be returning to the store for any reason whatsoever. In fact, my experience was so bad that i'd sooner make a trip to a farther location for comics, or Magic Cards just so I could steer clear of the shopkeeper with glasses and goatee. Whoever has their cards for sale at an establishment like this might want to think twice about potential business that is lost simply from rude customer service! Although I am just but one dissatisfied customer, I am a significant enough sample size of others who have probably dealt with this shopkeeper in a similar manner; please heed this review! Another thing worth noting is that the shop looks more like a Magic Card shop than a Comic shop; this makes me wonder: How will this shop every be able stay afloat if the shopkeeper is driving away Magic the Gathering customers willing to spend cash? If your sales are +50% driven by Magic Cards, you might not want to spit in the face of your Magic Card players and buyers, whom all have a little more disposable income than when they were 15 years old. Just a thought. PS. My first trip to the shop I happily purchased 80$ worth of single MTG cards. I was hoping to put together a Modern Deck's mana base with a few Scalding Tarns, which I noticed you had for sale for 90$ which was under the TCG low of 100$. Your alpha L___ B___s would have made a nice addition to my deck as well (I purposely censored the name for fear of referring any future customers to feel the wrath of the storekeeper). I will definitely not be purchasing these cards from you for the reasons I have detailed within this review. read more

This is my boyfriend's go to place to buy magic cards whenever a new set comes out...I'm not a gaming person in particular, but I did step foot in it once, and from a non-gamer perspective, it kinda reminded me of the comic store that's on the TV show, Big Bang Theory. It was that kind of vibe. They had an interesting section on anime/manga stuff that I like browsing through, and practically half of the store was set aside with tables and chairs for people to play the card games on. Went here for a Magic: The Gathering Friday night magic event. I was told the prize structure would be a specific way. Turns out they changed it at the middle of the tournament, and their reason was "tournament organizer's discretion". Sounded like a bunch of bologna to me. On top of that the tournament started at around 7 when they said it would start at 6:30. They drafted in two pods of 7 and 6 which is abysmal. Drafting is usually done in pods of 8, and that is what I expected to receive for my money. Not some funky cross draft nonsense. Being new to the gaming environment these guys were so quick to help me out! They helped me get what I needed and even helped me save money by keeping me away from the stuff I didn't need to get started. Checked out tho Comic Shop today cause was looking for new Sandman Overture and got the last one! It's a small shop but had some good stuff. Not a big selection of graphic novels/trades but they had what I was looking for and the customer service was really good. Very nice and friendly. Will check it out again when the next sandman one comes out. read more

Come here strictly for the new comic issues. They usually have what i need, but i feel like there orders have reduced in numbers when they get new issues of comics. Its been a few times already where i show up Wednesdays and miss out on certain new comic titles and i always get the same explanation "we didnt really get that many of those". Other than that, they have back issues of DC which is cool. read more

This guy , who I assume is the owner is Fu*king rude. I went in and asked if they had a certain comic. He was on his computer and didn't even look up or acknowledge me. After I stood in front of him for a good couple of minutes, he tells me "can I help you?" In a passive aggressive tone. I ignore it and ask him if he has the comic, I'm looking for. He proceeds to tell me if I looked in the store? I respond with yes. He then says "well obviously if it's not on the shelves I don't have it." With even more of a passive aggressive tone. I ignore it again and then ask about the magic cards in the case, only for him to literally groan at my mention of the magic cards. He gets upset and mentions that magic is played by assholes, and basically just bad mouths MTG players, which obviously I am. I just leave. HORRIBLE SELECTION OF BACK ISSUES, horrible customer service by this old man who clearly forget his meds. read more

I found Comic Cult online. The store itself is spacious and provides a gaming climate. The comic book section stands behind the gaming area like a backdrop, but it has the latest comic books stocked and special are orders available. It has a large television that is usually on; music is playing if the TV is off. Aside from the physical aesthetics, this review is more concerned with personnel over a few weeks of trying to acclimate. The Older Employee seems genuine, but it becomes apparent that a costumer is a nuisance. Once, I walked in while he berated a costumer for asking about a comic book. The employee yelled and told him to leave. The employee swore to himself while I made my way through the shop. I am positive that I did not know the full situation, but no employee should treat a costumer that way and begin to swear for that matter. I found someone setting up his cards and sat on the seat in his general area. When I talked to that person, who came to be a regular, he said that the Older employee did it often. I was warned not to ask him for any Magic: The Gathering cards because he does not like to be asked for the cards. I did so anyways because that was the reason I drove to the store. I walked up to the counter, but the employee did not even turn an eye towards me because he was too busy watching something online with the full volume blaring throughout the store. I interrupted him because I am not on his time, and he said, "Yeesssss," with a condescending roll of his eyes and a hanging mouth. I asked for a few cards. He looked back at the computer with a grumble; only to say, "Hold on. I am almost done." Eventually, he got up while I waited by the case. He put his hands on his waist like Wonder Woman, looked at me with lame stare and asked, "What do you want?" I ignored his tone because I wanted to buy and leave. I asked for $13 worth in cards. He groaned as he reached for the cards (Making it more apparent that I had disturbed him). He gets the cards, and I pull out a $20 bill to pay. He threw his arms into the air and back down, just to say, "Exact change only," with a moronic look. I did not see a sign stating "Exact change only for Magic cards." He proceeded to tell me that I needed to wait for two hours, so the other employee can break a twenty. I looked at the register and walked away. I sat down by the regular without the slightest intention of purchasing. I was contemplating where I should go next. I asked the person preparing his deck, "Is he always like this?" I got a firm, "Yes," with a smile. After quietly talking for a few minutes, I was convinced to return for alternative reasons. A week later, I met the other employee (I will call him the MTG employee). He was nice and attended me well with the cards. He told me the MTG schedule. I left happy. I came around off-and-on as a wallflower the following weeks. I saw that player who convinced me to return, and he invited me to play. While sitting and going to the card counter, the MTG employee talked about how another shop is going out of business and how they rip-off costumers. That he is banned. Then he spoke badly of another person from a different store. I have been to the "Rip-Off shop." No worker mentions Comic Cult or him while I FNM'd. Their prices were fair. I concluded that employee is a sour person. He was probably banned bad mouthing. The MTG employee has a bad business practice. Another day, I caught the MTG employee make some profane comments, by reading his lips, about a customer. That other person said he was not going to make his girlfriend a deck (For some reason). The MTG employee turned, made a funny face and silently bad-mouthed him to another player. The person who made the comment smirked and knew what the MTG Employee was doing behind his back (He turned to the player the MTG employee made the gestures to and caught him trying to act normal). Another night, I spoke with someone in the parking lot. Apparently, there is no manager on site, so the costumers keep their mouths shut because it is the closest shop. Some ignore the problems because they liked the previous owner, Bob. Bob's wife is not aware of the situation since she is not around except during a short day when customers rarely show. The employees blame and quarrel with each other in silence while the shop suffers. From my understanding, one is trying to get the other fired and both are blaming the other for issues. I thought that shop was going to be my new LGS since I moved, but it is not. I am disappointed. I am surprised with the playgroup, though. The playgroup made me feel welcomed; Once, I was even invited to hang out. That night, one of them said, "Everything has its issues, but that doesn't mean they have to be the controlling aspect." I think the reference was towards the select few. Those words reveal the point to this post: The shop is not the reason why a customer enters the door: it is the people. So I'm just getting back into Magic the Gathering after a decade long break, probably longer. I heard from someone that this store has pre-release events where you can get Planeswalker decks prior to release. Sounded cool, so I went in on my way home from work to see how it all works. I've never been to any sort of pre-release event for MTG before. I ask the guy, who I'm guessing is the owner, about their events, and he let me know there is one that night at midnight, and told me how much the pre-release kits were. I have a family and a job that I have to get up early for and can't go play Magic at midnight on a Thursday. So I asked if you have to actually play in the event to purchase a pre-release kit. I could swing by at midnight, but I can't stay and play. The guy looks at me like I'm an idiot and says it's only for players. He said something about them taking it very seriously. I was a little confused, but whatever. Then I asked him if they had any events where you can get the Planeswalker decks early. He confirmed that there was, but it was prior to that day. I asked him if they still had any left over. The guy then proceeded to yell at me, accuse me of entrapment, and kicked me out of the store! Totally confused as to why he went from 0 to 11, I tried to understand what I did to cause this and he kept yelling over me, accusing me of trying to get him to do something illegal and telling me to leave. "GO BACK AND TELL YOUR MASTER THAT IT DIDN'T WORK THIS TIME." Not kidding, those are the actual words he said. It sounds like they messed up and sold something they shouldn't have before a release date. Apparently, he thought I was some Wizards of the Coast covert operative sent to take his shop down. Maybe it was my business casual attire that threw him off. Usually, that would indicate a customer that has money to spend in a shop. Not this guy. I left and even called afterwards to apologize for the misunderstanding, and to re-iterate that I meant no harm. He was still a complete jerk, yelling over me and telling me that I was asking all the wrong questions. He even said that he reported me to Magic, whatever that means. The experience was akin to coming into contact with someone who is off their meds. The guy was paranoid, delusional and aggressive. Just the type of person you want talking to customers. A bit of advice, instead of berating your customer for asking questions, maybe educate them on your events, offerings, and limitations on what you can and can't sell, and when. I went over to Geoffrey's comics and had a MUCH more pleasant experience. I'll be spending my money there. read more

The Dice Masters community is renowned for it's kindness and openness. This was easily the worst experience I've ever had playing Dice Masters. Experienced players usually help newcomers and teach them about cards and combos. This store owner was hostile, unwelcoming and a terrible sport. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. read more

Just like very shop there are ups and downs and I've been to enough up and down the California to know good from bad. I enjoy the Magic group here, everyone is willing to help each other out and if they are not, it is because they hold personal grudges against new people having fun. Nothing to do with the shop itself or the T/O running it. I've grown from a complete newbie to a decent player because of the people there and I am happy they stayed patient with me through it. read more
